It's easier on my eyes than other survivors type games. I like that there aren't flashing lights all over the screen, and that getting more powerful doesn't equal the screen being filled with chaos.

On the harder difficulties the weapons might get you killed. Maybe implement a manual throw option?

It's a short, flashy and very sweet take on VS formula, but w/o any sort of build variety. There's around 10 hours of gameplay here to unlock everything, but for the price I think Karate Survivor is fully worth it.

I was waiting with anticipation for this one since I saw a few Youtube channels preview it a month or two ago, so the day has finally arrived when it's released and what is this? Five dollars?! You have to be kidding me. No early access nonsense either, just a deep, fun action roguelike for the price of a beer. This is one of the best values out there right now. Karate Survivor throws some clever wrinkles into the well-worn action roguelike/survivors-like genre where while it's still an auto shooter (er, auto kick-puncher), there's a timing system to your attacks where you have 6 slots that you can fill with various punches and kicks as you collect them, and each one is run in order. You start a level with one punch which means five slots are blank, so there's a longer amount of time between your attacks and you need to avoid the horde until it cycles back around again. Collect more punch and kick cards and now you're fighting more rapidly. You'll learn very quickly to wade into the crowd while your kicks and punches are about to activate, and avoid everyone while waiting for them to reset. It's an odd system at first but a very compelling one once you get the hang of it after a run or two. The arenas are littered with all sorts of objects that can be thrown, kicked, swung, broken, and about a half dozen other methods in helping you fight off the swarm. But they're not all unlocked right away, your ability to use various objects around the level increases as you progress your character, and will stay unlocked permanently for that save file. So at first you can only pick up and use, say, bats or brooms in fighting off the mob, but soon enough you'll be throwing plates and glasses at them, kicking shopping carts and mop buckets, or toppling display pieces on them. That's just the tip of the iceberg, the levels are packed with all sorts of random objects that will come into play. Like most action roguelikes there's an in-run upgrade system (cash) who's effects end when the run is over, but also a permanent meta upgrade system (teeth) that permanently allows you to make your character faster, stronger, and about two dozen other things. It seems well-balanced a few hours in as I'm hitting a spot where I need to grind a bit for teeth to further upgrade my character to get through level 3 (of 5). An amusing chop socky B-movie atmosphere, compelling gameplay, and a deep upgrade system, it almost feels like a mistake they're charging five bucks for this. 9/10

This game is a pretty unique take on the Vampire Survivors-style genre. When I first watched the trailer, I thought it was going to be a mix of a beat-em-up and Survivors game—and it kinda is. But at its core, it’s still a Vampire Survivors setup: you auto-attack (melee in this case), and tons of enemies deal damage on collision. Although, I noticed they don't hurt you when you're pulling off a combo. You get to mix and match moves from different martial arts, not just karate, which is awesome. And, using a plastic flamingo to smack punks? Hilarious! Yeah, you’ll die now and then, but that just unlocks more moves and upgrades for the next run. I’m still getting the hang of moving around and using the environment. The bar level is definitely tougher than the supermarket, but it's a fun challenge. Definitely recommend this, especially for the price!
