Keep on Mining! is what I like to call an “active-incremental-game”. The base mechanics works like an incremental game, gaining resources, updating a skill tree, and passively increasing numbers, to help with progression. Like increased damage, bigger mining area, more time, increased resources, just as examples. But unlike an idle game, you just don’t upgrade the statistics, but actively play the game, which mostly comes down to destroying various rocks with your mouse, BUT. It is a lot of fun to do! While it certainly isn’t a revolution Keep on Mining! is very good at what it wants to be. It is good fun for a couple hours, and perfect when you just want to relax for a while and watch something on the side or listen to some good music.
A really fun incremental game. Played it on a road trip because I didn't have to look down at it that much to play. My two year old toddler even helped me mine some things with his tiny lil' fingers. Finished? Yes Steam Achievements? Play the game! Steam Deck? Keep on Mining is one of the most relaxing games I’ve played recently. The concept is simple: mine, upgrade, and go deeper. But what makes it really enjoyable is that you can leave it running AFK while doing other things.You can check in from time to time, mine resources, and upgrade your gear. There’s no stress, no competition it’s just a chill experience.The graphics are simple but charming, and the gameplay is smooth and surprisingly addictive. You might think you’ll play for a few minutes, but you keep coming back.In short Can be played AFK Very relaxing and stress free Gives a constant sense of progression If you’re looking for a chill game to play in the background, this one is definitely worth trying.
TL;DR Synopsis: Quick and enjoyable casual game that is nice for a quiet afternoon or a "2nd activity" while you're watching videos/movies with friends. Another reviewer said it's great for playing while chilling and listening to music/podcasts and I'd agree with that, too. Strictly speaking, worth the $5 sale price, but only just. Wouldn't recommend for people that don't enjoy this general genre of game, the tags do a good job of conveying what you're getting, and you certainly get what you pay for. Full Review Pricing Level: AAA ($60+) Top-tier quality, length, and features expected. No excuse for bad elements. Mid-tier ($30-59.99) High expectations with some leeway for mistakes. Value ($10-29.99) Middling expectations, with mistakes tolerated but not appreciated. Cheap ($0.01-9.99) Low expectations, mistakes are expected. Free ($0.00) No expectations. Just hope it's not a virus. Retails at $4.99, I bought for $3.95 - I think $2.99 would make a perfect price for this game, as it only runs about 4 hours total in terms of total content, including attaining all available achievements. In terms of the Cash Quotient, I played this game for about $0.86 per hour (if it was full price, that would turn into $1.08, not as good of value in my eyes). Some people might get more out of it, but I stayed pretty on the rails, progression-wise. I'd say that's worth it, as I did have a good time with the game. Game Length Perfect Great Good OK Poor There's no "story" of any kind here, which isn't a knock, in the slightest. Mine, mine, mine some more. This game does what it does very well, and it does it without overstaying its welcome or turning into a marathon. As a Perfect Game collector (I love achievement hunting) I was able to get all available achievements without revealing the hidden ones, and it rarely hit a point that I felt like my time was being wasted or the game got stale. Generally speaking, the game does a good job slowly tiering up and encouraging you to explore different branches of the skill tree in order to speed up your progression. Of course, there would surely be ways to extend this game, but the moment you start looking for extra content without a strong purpose, that's when mistakes and bad game design happen. Luckily, they don't fall into that trap. Features Amazing Exceeds expectations Meets expectations Decent Fails to meet expectations The graphics are clean and colorful, the skill tree is simple and easy to navigate, the juice is worth the squeeze in terms of the unlockables, and the gameplay is so simple you could let it "play itself" if you really wanted to (for very reduced returns, but it's still an option). There's a variety of languages it's been translated into, and while the sound effects and music are very solid, I was thankful for an opportunity to mute them as the game gets rather chaotic, sound-effect wise, in the late game and Endless mode, which is a very nice feature to have once the game reaches its naturally planned conclusion. Overall Quality Top Tier High Average Mediocre Awful Great game. No glitches I could find, no exploits to speak of, the gameplay, graphics, and sound all work together to create a positive experience, and I'd say it's worth the money it asks for. I may dabble in it again if I get particularly bored and want to go deeper into the Endless mode, but now that the achievements are finished, I don't have much of an incentive to continue which is something I do honestly appreciate, as those artificial hours of gameplay to get one or two absolutely asinine achievements can completely break an experience for me. After reading the most recent post from August 2025, it sounds like the dev has a very down-to-earth approach to their game design and is pondering a sequel, which I'd be very interested to see. It's a clean, simple, enjoyable experience and deserves the praise it gets. Add my recommendation to the pile and give it a go, maybe wishlist it if you'd rather pay a little less for it, but in my opinion, this dev does deserve the financial support to drive towards a sequel and see what limits this game design can aspire to be. Final Score: 8/10: Great
This is the perfect game to watch a show, jam to some music, or listen to an audiobook/podcast. It's a nice incremental game that is pretty decently paced. I 100% it at almost 6 hours, but I took my time on it. After beating the game you have the option to continue on in an endless mode, but that's not required for the 100%. Sometimes you just want to Keep on Mining!
