This is honestly one of my favourite games I've ever played. Kena is cute and the rot are adorable. You play as Kena (as the title would imply), a spirit guide who's mission it is, is to cleanse the forest of corruption and see to it that souls find peace with the help of these cute little black creatures, the rot. Don't be fooled by the pixar-like art style, this game can be very challenging if you want it to be. Combat is the usual action with dodge, parry and basic upgradeable tree that you'd come to expect. The game is graphically gorgeous and the exploration is very fun. Don't let the Souls-like tag turn you off, unlike those games this game DOES have difficulty settings including a story difficulty. The story is sort of dark and I find it all very interesting. The puzzles are a bit simple but that's no issue to me personally. Again. This is one of my favourite games of all time and I really hope Ember Lab either make a sequel or another game because this one is their first and they nailed it imo. I bought it again after finishing it on the PS5 4 years ago to experience this game all over again and I immediately fell back in love with it!

I've started this game 3 times and always enjoy playing, but for one reason or another end up walking away before beating it. Idk if that warrants a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I'm starting my 4th game and am pretty excited about it so I'm going to thumbs up this "cute but challenging" indie souls-like for now.

If disney pixar made games, amazing visuals which are second to none If you want a souls like experience play this game on master difficulty. I underestimated this game on highest difficulty, the last 2 bosses are crazy difficult.

This game is gorgeously designed and thought out. The skills, combat, bosses and puzzles were all really fun for me. I love the side of collectables too, such a lovely small detail to give the rots different hats (they're so cute). The mixture between weapons (bombs, melee and ranged) was really enjoyable to play! The story was touching and quite moving for me, I wasn't in tears like some other games I've played but regardless; the journey to help spirits move on from the physical world will always be a tear-jerker. Kena is also a beautiful character and I loved her compassion and courage. I really enjoyed this short game and anyone who likes fantasy, puzzle/adventure genres would be sure to enjoy it too. I was able to finish the game including collectables (meditation spots, rot, treasure etc) in about 11 hours!

In some areas, traversal could be less tedious if only Kena could move faster or had some sort of mount. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the game, especially the boss fights =)
