In an era of slop, this game is a breath of fresh air. It’s a work of art with style. The combat is great and gets deeper as you progress. As someone who usually hates cutscenes, I actually sit and watch these. The best part is that there’s absolutely no wokeness in this game, with lots of beautiful ladies and masculine male characters. The side missions are hilarious and would never be allowed to be made today. All in all, it feels like playing an anime from the 2000s, watching late at night on Toonami.

Kill, Get Paid (allegedly), Date Beauties First things first: have you ever played a game by Suda51 before? If yes: Just play it. It's good enough. If no: I'd still recommend playing it, but go in with an open mind. Suda51's games are a little... exotic. Killer Is Dead takes place in a universe where the moon emits a dark energy called "Dark Matter", this energy corrupts humans of "weak will", turning them into Wires. The protagonist, Mondo Zappa, works as an executioner for a government-funded organization whose purpose is to eliminate people possessed by Dark Matter. Mondo has a bionic arm called Musselback, which works as a multi-purpose weapon, despite him having memory problems and not knowing how he got it. The game has 13 main missions, 12 side missions, 20 challenges, and 3 Gigolo missions (we'll talk about those later). It takes around 9 hours to finish the story and do some of the side content, around ~15 hours if you want to do everything, and roughly ~25 hours to get 100%. Gameplay & Missions The gameplay is decent. The combo system is fun, and so are the parry/block mechanics. Of course, don't go into this expecting a Devil May Cry , but it's good enough. The story is curious and bizarre enough that it will probably keep you entertained until the end, especially because the main missions don't follow a fixed formula. Some missions are basically walking around for a while watching cutscenes, others are much bigger and have several sections within them, and some have you revisiting a previous location with a few differences. Overall, there's a surprisingly good amount of variety considering there are "only" 13 main missions. The side missions, on the other hand, are more like "robust" challenges. They're specific things you have to accomplish in areas from the main missions, and they're pretty fun and decent overall as well. The challenges are much more straightforward. You pick one, do whatever it asks you to do, and that's it. They're things like: kill three waves of enemies without taking damage; survive for 40 seconds without blocking; kill the enemies in a specific order; and so on. They're pretty easy overall, and they give you a wonderful reward at the end. Gigolo Missions As for the Gigolo missions I mentioned, they're basically side quests where you try to win over "Beauties" and eventually... well, get the girl. They're honestly a pretty fun and curious type of mission. Given Mondo's personality as a ladies' man, it fit into the overall story much better than I initially expected, especially because the girls will actually call Mondo during missions to tell him that they miss him and stuff like that. It's weird, but somehow it works. The wonderful reward I mentioned earlier for completing the challenges is basically a pair of glasses that lets Mondo see the Beauties' underwear. Although, on Steam, the game already comes with the DLC, so the glasses are already unlocked by default. In other words, from the very first Gigolo mission, you can already be happy about it. Goichi Suda And that's where Goichi Suda comes in. I think it's almost impossible to review a Goichi Suda game without comparing it to his other games, because his work is just so distinctive and different. In my head, Goichi Suda is the Nicolas Cage of the gaming world. That's it. His games aren't necessarily masterpieces. Sometimes they have flaws that make them not that great, but, man, there's really nothing quite like them. It's this perfect balance of nonsense and serious moments, followed by completely deranged jokes that you have no idea where they came from, or where they're going. It's impossible for me not to recommend a game from this guy. They're wonderful despite their problems. PC Port ehhh... it's not exactly great. The game doesn't support resolutions higher than Full HD, and it's locked to 30 FPS. But we're on PC, so nothing that looking through the Steam guides or PCGamingWiki can't fix. Honestly, though, I found it perfectly playable at 30 FPS on the Steam Deck. I tried messing around with some settings, but eventually got lazy and went back to how it was originally. Still, it would be pretty hypocritical of me not to mention the port's issues, because if I were playing this on my PC, I'd definitely be pissed about the 1080p/30 FPS limitation. Conclusion Have you played something by Goichi Suda before? Then play Killer Is Dead now. Just keep the port issues I mentioned above in mind. Don't know who Goichi Suda is? Personally, I'd recommend starting with No More Heroes . It's a much more approachable game and technically better than this one. But there's nothing stopping you from starting here. Just be prepared to go in with an open mind for one of the not the best experiences created by the insane and brilliant mind of Goichi Suda.

I like the game but the story is really confusing sometimes but the gameplay is nice for a ps3 game and the mc has a cool and nonchalant vibe which I love. 9/10

Will need some minor technical fixes for 60 fps and crashes, but the game is fantastic and worth the effort.
