Still a game to be had here, and you can get it for extremely cheap in the trilogy bundle on a sale, but if you want to spend more for a better version you can get the Black edition (Too much for what it's worth in my opinion). A lot of crucial moves don't track - leading to further strings being voided, completely removing options of confirms - entirely removing more complex setups (some never worked to begin with in the 2008 version and dropped sometimes), enemies are tankier, delimb less and do more damage which, yeah, sucks. Main thing is that enemy counts are significantly reduced and is especially apparent in the latter half of sky city Tokyo for example after you free fall into the glass and traverse around. Werewolves don't throw limbs of their dead brothers anymore and some random non-humanoid enemy got removed alongside the horrible ass worm boss. Close-quarters combat with Water Dragon and Death Megalo Flyer is entirely gone, not good. Doesn't help that chargeable UT shots with the bow is taken out too, leading to zero substance which isn't helped with one of the new statue bosses needing projectiles to damage it at points. Also, windmill and incendiary shurikens gone - howling cannon replacement for harpoon gatling gun (howling SUCKS!). Animations good as always (minus the death animation at times) and I like Ryu's cold eyes, but the first game feels more chunkier and impactful nevertheless. Ryu is at his coolest in this game like that one warriors orochi 3 cutscene with him. You get one additional weapon which is alright and is carried alongside all the other changes done to the original over to black, they only really ever added some QoL in black but not enough, which have logs that you can see. TLDR, mod with fiendbusa's stuff if you aren't going to play Xbox 360 iteration, modders are able to bring back charged bow attacks even in black and of course this and so fourth. Game has unfortunately had a rough course with the whole itagaki and team ninja debacle throughout it's development which ♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game big time, black only ever changes the hp and amounts of enemies in very few chapters which are the core problems, rest are still there, minus the two statue bosses with other welcome QoL changes (BLOOD AND GORE HI!!!), but shouldn't have been prioritised over more pressing matters that STILL persist over to black.
