My late uncle introduced me to this game on the PS3 back in 2012 when I was only 15 years old. Little did I know I was playing arguably the hardest game on that console. I platinum it in remembrance of my uncle. This game is can be so intense but so satisfying to learn. Combat has so much depth that every encounter can have a systematic approach to it. No matter how powerful you get in this game, if you can't master timing and positioning, the enemies will tear you apart. But when you master all the fundamentals and you become powerful, this game is the biggest power trip I have ever experienced. If I count the amount of time I spent playing on the PS3, I think it would be about 700 hours easily. I love it and would recommend anyone that's up to the challenge.

Normal difficulty review with the mod: * Controls: There's no tutorial on the controls. The game drops into the action right away and you have to figure out the buttons yourself. XBone Controls: X - Fast attack Y - Heavy attack B - Ranged attack A - Jumps. Forward + A = Roll jump. Holding Y - Charges up your ultimate. You have two stages. You can instantly charge up if you absorb any essence. LB - Dodges. Used with A will make your movement faster. Also helpful for dodging. LT - First person for bow or looking around. Y + B - Uses Ninpo. * Grab. YOU WILL GET GRABBED! Do not stand there and block all day! * Bosses - Hit or miss. Some bosses are pretty easy to abuse invincibility frames while other bosses will fcuk you up. Hello, Alma. Please grab me some more. * Platforming can be iffy at times. Sometimes you'll run up the wall rather than wall jump because of your positioning. There's a section in the game where wallrunning must be done, but you'll probably miss the platform. * Rachel is hot. Great outfit. Her chest goes boing. She has 3 stages to play through. She's a little more defensive and you may or may not enjoy her gameplay, especially on higher levels. She also becomes a damsel in distress. * Ghost fish. Most annoying enemy in the game. * Izuna Drop. Depending on your difficulty once you get it, XYXXXY. * Game over. If you're new, you'll see the game over screen plenty of times. You always have to go through the loading screen. It sucks. * Camera. Can be your worst enemy. Score: 8 out of 10. Some people really love the first Ninja Gaiden game. They love to challenge themselves and master the game, especially on Master Ninja. I find it great. There's a frustration factor and I hope you don't lose your mind if you play this game. If you decide to up the difficulty, I wish you luck and success.
Great collection of amazing character action games. While the PC port unfortunately doesn't have a ton of graphical settings to adjust, they're all pretty easy to run anyways given their age. So unless you're running a literal f**king toaster, you should be fine. Sigma 1 - Great game and not a bad version of NG1 at all. The worst imo is some aesthetic changes of some of the levels and some odd/different enemy encounter changes. Slightly different experience with some items being moved around in different spots compared to Ninja Gaiden Black, but for the most part it's the same game. A stellar action adventure game that anyone should play. Sigma 2 - Easily the worst version of NG2, but it's still a very fun and good action game even unmodded. However, modded with the "Sigma 2 Black" mod makes it immensely more enjoyable like the original NG II. There are significant differences between Sigma 2 and OG NG II, but whether you play it modded or unmodded, you're bound to have a great time. Ninja Gaiden II Black imo has a slightly better "out of the box" experience and has updated fancy graphics too. NG3RE - Great combat but imo everything else kinda sucks. I'm not a huge fan of 3RE but I won't deny it's still a really fun game and the ninja trials mode is a blast to play. It's absolutely worth playthroughs. New mechanics like "steel-on-bone" are extremely cathartic and satisfying. 3RE has some really bad bosses though and some enemy encounters are quite frustrating thanks to Hayashi game design. Overall I'd definitely recommend going through the NG games! Great combat and encounter design which keeps you on your toes and punishes you for slacking. Become a true ninja! Side notes: for people complaining about bad tutorials and the game not telling you certain mechanics - totally valid complaint. Don't let that stop you from enjoying and giving the game a good score though. A little bit of youtube won't hurt you. There's some really amazing tech that has been discovered over the years and it's exciting to find out what new things you can do and accomplish!
**BUYER BEWARE!** On windows 11 and latest Steam deck build, it crashes to desktop / Crashes Steam deck multiple times. Loading the game is a non optional boss.. I Never played this all the way through, was cool to play it all the way through. hero mode was fun, I didn't want to get good and just wanted to get through it. Cool to see it all the way to the end! Crazy this came out in 2004, the Rachel levels are a nice addition. PC port leaves a lot to be desired, but you can get through it, when it's running smoothly on the steam deck its amazing to play on the go. Game is legendary, very hard even hero mode will surprise you.. RIP Tomonobu Itagaki Game is a gem! Recommend to buy only if on sale.
