Soooooooooo overall, I think if you're someone who is just getting started with the yuri genre, this is a good VN to start with. It has a lot of classic yuri tropes that are a bit corny in hindsight if you are a seasoned yurihead; however, it has that wholesome energy that simple romances carry. I've had this game in my wishlist for yeaaars so I am glad that I finally tried it ^^. PROS: -Good cast of couples and characters. Even if you don't like one, you will find a couple you like. -Simple but nice artstyle -The planner is really cute and nice to navigate - Simple story but pleasant. CONS: -OST is very repetitive and annoying - Game is too expensive for length. You can beat the base game in 8 hours (maybe I am a fast reader?) Only get if it's on sale imo. - The teacher and student couple is really creepy and gross. Easily the worst couple in the game.

First of all I want to say right off the bat that you should definitely consider acquiring the DLC for this game if you enjoy what you play (I have not beaten the game yet, but my girlfriend and the community for Kindred Spirits on the Roof will say that is essential to have for people who enjoyed what they played of the base game stuff). So, I think it's essential you keep the drama CD/DLC content in the back of your mind for if you want to buy this game. Anyways, I will move onto my review here: Kindred Spirits on the Roof is a wonderful yuri visual novel which I think actually discusses some meaningful and interesting topics within the yuri genre. This VN explores sapphic romance that I think is actually fairly unique in its commentary. What stands out most to me is Kindred Spirits on the Roof being a bit of a "time capsule" a bit in how it discusses the history of sapphic relationships throughout time. You can see this particularly with the two spirits (Sachi, Megumi, two of the three main characters of the game) who are spirits who now reside on the rooftop of a high-school. They are both lesbian spirits who died in two different eras: Sachi is I believe a lesbian and third year student of the high school where the game is set from pre-WW2 Japan; Megumi, a lesbian and first year student died some time in the 1980s. Together the two fell in love (through some very sweet events the game will cover), and are trying to "match-make" quite a number of girl students who have that potential to be couples. Sachi and Megumi are only two parts of a much larger picture though of what constitutes relationships between women! Seeing all the various types of sapphic relationships which aren't really that far fetched from how they happen IRL is a pretty wonderful thing to read through! I have put in 20 hours into this 30-ish hours visual novel and I feel confident in saying I highly recommend this VN to every and all yuri lover. Definitely worth your purchase! If anything thing changes I will update this review, but I don't expect that shall happen. Hope I sold someone out there on this wonderful story. PS: Ano and Nena are the best couple, even if it's not explicitly stated. <3

Let's create a Yuritopia! Super fun yuri VN. The premise is interesting, you're playing cupid for many couples throughout the school instead of seeking romance yourself (or is it?), but the motives are.... dubious. And so are some of the relationships depicted (teacher x student is cursed), but overall the game is a lot of fun. All the couples are interesting and likable, the senpais and the one with the rocker and the serious student are the highlights for me. Nice art and music and there is a lot of content to go through, covering multiple POVs and stuff.

TL;DR The game is great, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Awesome characters, engaging story development. But there are two massive drawbacks to this 5/5: the BGM and the ridiculous amount of backtracking. So, the short version is over — now comes the deep dive (rant). --- Details: 1) Pacing [*] The game takes a long time to get going. In the beginning, I had to force myself to keep playing, hoping it would get better — and luckily, it did. Around the midpoint or closer to the end, things start getting really interesting. But the opening is painfully slow. [*] Same issue near the end — when you crave development, you get mental gymnastics instead. [*] The non-linear narrative can be confusing. Just as the plot starts to pick up momentum, it suddenly slams the brakes and begins slowly revealing (often unnecessary) side details. 2) Characters [*] There are a lot of characters — and a lot of *amazing* couples, each with their own unique dynamics. Usually, this results in underdeveloped personalities, but *not here*. Each character has a backstory, each acts logically (to a point), driven by believable internal motivation. No complaints here. 3) Backtracking & POV shifts [*] Don’t get me wrong — shifting POVs is a powerful narrative tool. If it’s done well. Unfortunately, here it isn’t. The POV shifts are abrupt and scattered. The in-game calendar helps maintain a general timeline, but that’s not the issue. You expect a POV shift to show you new things — things that were hidden, misunderstood, or unclear from another perspective. Yes, it does happen... about 40% of the time. The remaining 60% is just a rehash of previously seen scenes with a sprinkle of new inner thoughts. Sure, that adds some depth — but it’s just boring. Why revisit the same dialogue multiple times just for a few new lines? 4) BGM [*] Rare case where I turned off the music in a visual novel. Looping the same track for 3+ hours is teeth-grindingly awful. Big L. 5) Art & Style [*] Visually, the game doesn’t really stand out among other VNs. Not bad, not amazing — just fine. That said, there are lots of unique CG scenes, and that’s definitely a plus. --- Spoilers Below: 6) The writers didn’t back down when it came to the teacher x student plotline. I was expecting the usual coward move — but no. They went all the way. 10/10. 7) I genuinely liked the ending for the main heroine. Childhood friends supremacy! The post-confession delay felt a bit odd, but the payoff was worth it. 8) Precious various scenes of pure yuri love (18+) — absolutely stunning and beautiful. P.S. The rotten act of the senpais towards Hina is terrible and simply cannot be forgiven

Just your friendly neighborhood Himejoshi lesbian here, reporting for duty! Sometimes in life you come across a yuri VN that's just so PEAK it makes you laugh, cry, and everything in between. This is definitely one of them. This is one of the top 3 yuri VNs I would recommend to someone new to the genre... or just... in general. The MC was relatable, the characters all have such unique personalities, and the relationships in the game develop in a way that truly makes you feel like you're at the school with them. Even if you don't initially like a character, I can almost guarantee you'll at least be able to understand them better by the end of the VN. I'll be honest, a lot of yuri media acknowledges either the loving OR the sexual aspect of a lesbian relationship, but not both. I am pleasantly surprised when yuri accomplishes what Kindred Spirits did- a great mix of loving and sexual aspects in the depicted relationships. I also appreciate when long term couples are shown in the genre such as Sachi and Megumi. The fact that they were trying to figure out how they can consummate their relationship before passing on as spirits was a comical but endearing premise. I was late to the game on this VN, but I absolutely rate it in my top 3 Yuri VNs of all time. I enjoyed the art, music, story line, characters, literally everything. I don't have anything bad to say about it. Maybe other than I'm mad I can't go back in time to reread it for the first time again. 5/5 stars.
