Wow, what a strategy game! I am an old man now, having been gaming since the ‘Dark Ages of C64 and Amiga’ , spend over 3,000 hrs on all of the ‘Panzercorps’ games X-com etc,etc.. I just love turn based strategy. This game is awesome in my opinion.. The ambient music, the graphics, cutscenes and voices makes it a nice eirie experience. I must admit, it took me many hours of play until I realized that “HP Hitpoints” is NOT the damage you can deal! It is more like how much damage you can take before your “Vitality” makes you go dead! :) That is just one thing I learned and had to restart again.. Another thing that I did not understand at beginning was the important “Morality Chart”.. A lot of decisions to make go for Righteous or Tyrant, then the religious part... Christian or Old faith. It affects so many things in game, the selection of Knights at the Round table, Loyalty etc.. So I restarted for the 5th time having learned my lessons.. :) Also, consulting YouTube for recommended “Knights skill builds” helped me a lot to understand the complex game mechanics and it even made the whole game even deeper and more captivating. I am now at lvl 19-17 with my Knights and I love every morning at 5am when I can start a new adventure mission.. This time I went Righteous/Old Faith line and focused on Sir Mordred as my “Main Battle Tank” , Two Ladies on the flanks, Lady Boudicea (a maniac with dual wield and jumping backstabs) , Lady Guinivere with almost as good backstabs and ‘Hide’ options plus her “Inspire” which increases the whole team’s Action Points at start. And of course Merlin, the magician in the rear with his attacking Ravens on the most dangerous beast, fire blasts and all.. Having found myself a “Dream Team” that can kill over 25 hard opponents if I do it well .. :) The learning curve is very steep but now after about 300 hrs, I am getting the hang of it. I do love most, the sessions in between battles at Camelot, where I equip my Knights, send them to training grounds or Hospice for injuries, visiting the Merchant.. There is soo much to do in between missions. Well, this was a long review maybe, but all in all, this game has for me, as an old strategist, ALL I wished for in the old days! 10 Stars with Golden Oak Leaves from me! :) And I will probably play this game over and over again for years to come.. In fact I still don’t know when it ends.. ( after 25 levels?) Also I do love the “Easter eggs” embedded at times with reference to Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” film.. The “Killer Rabbit” and the old hag who asked “What is you favourite colour?” *LOL* So, if you like turn-based strategy and the atmosphere of the magic ‘Avalon’ and ‘King Arthur’ stories.. Go buy it! My review after 100% completion King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a good TRPG with turn-based tactics. Characters development is pretty solid with quite a lot of skills for you to choose from when you level up. Story is interesting while not amazing. The game might be quite challenging if you play with a high difficulty setting. It can definitely satisfy TRPG veterans in terms of difficulty. UI and graphics are what attract me most to be honest. I personally love this art-style. Recommend? Yes, but be warned that the game may be quite challenging for some people.

This game is an excellent combination of tactical / turn-based combat, CRPG style character development and castle management. Hero management could also be added, if this is really a category. All these wrapped in a stylish fantasy / medieval environment, dark and moody. The game does not focus on things like narrating a deep story or picturing memorable characters. This is a strategy, combat oriented game. Comparing, in this sense, with several turn-based fantasy CRPGs I have played (DOS I & II, the two Owlcat – Pathfinder games, Solasta, BG3 and more) I believe this game stands really high. First of all, the combat system and the character development options are solid, well-structured and very interesting. The ruleset is custom but little effort is needed to learn it. The encounters are well balanced and remain exciting throughout the campaign. Castle management also serves its purpose. Overall, the game is well polished, with no bugs, showing high quality and maturity in every aspect. So, I believe, it definitely is a great choice for people who like this kind of games.

I enjoyed this more than expected. The game is essentially a dark fantasy medieval XCOM-like with RPG elements. The game is broken up into missions of killing several packs of enemies with a small amount of exploration rather than a free roam open world. I have only completed the main story (including all side missions) and 1 end game mission so far. The main story missions were relatively easy, but the difficulty seems to ramp up significantly in the end game. Things that I liked: + Art style and setting (dark fantasy, medieval Arthurian, serious tone) + Tactical combat system + Character progression, builds, and synergies between characters + Large roster of uniquely-voiced playable characters + Voice actor quality, especially Mordred, Brunor, Balin, Black Knight, Morgana. Voiced monologues by Mordred to set up each mission. "Power and Glory". Pre-mission monologues somewhat remind me of Myth: The Fallen Lords (that was such an awesome game back in the day) + Morality system adds flavor to the game and it was cool going full blown Tyrant route + Cut scenes - intro and act 4 ending were cool. Cut scenes between acts were ok, but not as good and lady of the lake facial animations were a little weird. + Music - not many different tracks, but the limited ones available were enjoyable and not annoying/repetitive after many hours of playing + Does not pander to the "modern audience," just cool knights going to battle. Does not overuse purple and teal. + Writing/dialogue was well written and not millenial/quippy/Marvel/reddit tier What could have been better: - More enemy variety - Tactical combat is 2D, could be cooler if it was 3D (verticality) - Add an option for Tyrant Mordred to overthrow Lady of the Lake and seize ultimate power for himself - I think the game uses forced TAA and there can be ghosting visible if zoomed all the way in. This might be more visible at lower framerates. It wasn't noticeable when zoomed out (the normal view distance), so I don't think this is a major issue, but should be noted. Performance was pretty good on a 1080 ti (120+ fps at max settings, but it will be running close to max pwr). Hoping for a full sequel to this. I never heard of this developer before, but they have caught my attention for future developments.

Fun tactical RPG game, leaning more towards RPG than tactics. I found the gameplay getting a bit stale by the end once you have recruited all the knights which you like, and unlocked the 3rd (and final) tier of abilities. That being said there is a wide variety of abilities to experiment with and upgrade; different classes each have their own speciality, and each character having a slightly different set of abilities from others of that class. The abilities themselves were fun to use, and you can synergize the abilities of your character with your equipment, and with your other characters. There are a few different groups of enemies each with a number of different classes, but you fight so that I found it getting repetitive. It would have been nice for the different enemy types to gain more abilities or mechanical changes throughout the game, eg: undead which you fight from the very beginning to end of the game. The story is interesting enough and a fun twist on the classic tale and cast of King Arthur. Between each main mission there are side missions you can do, including ones which allow you to recruit new characters, which kept things interesting. There is a small kingdom management portion which allows you to choose what to upgrade to customize some benefits. The setup of the game is one where you have many more characters than you can take on each mission, and seems to encourage you to switch them out. If characters take enough damage in a mission they get permanent debuffs which can only be healed by sitting out at least one mission. I don't really enjoy those types of mechanics, but the game wasn't so difficult on hard that it came up much. You can save freely throughout missions so if you want you could certainly avoid that mechanic entirely if you only want to use the same 4 knights the whole game. There is a morality chart where you will make choices between two options of religion and ruling style, with different unlocks when you reach certain points in each direction. This included the ability to unlock some characters which was great, but I didn't find the other unlocks that interesting of useful. The morality chart will also change a few side missions which was cool Overall the game is fun and a nice mix of tactics and RPG, but not amazing and gets a bit stale after the first half. 3.5/5
