Easter Eggs Oh My! Better POV, and you can switch on a whim, from 3rd person to cinematic, and when you do, it looks even more cinematic! The frame rate is outstanding, the graphics are outstanding, the choosing enemy during combat is outstanding, Tony Jay sounds better than ever, like Soul Reaver 1. Sometimes I see the new texture detail and I say, "damn." The only thing I would change is: *Adding PVP; two controllers for two friends, and one as Kain and one as Raziel! Or on LAN...Pretty pweeze! *Elaboration of My Love For This Game: 1. This is the way it oughta be! I think I said, "I love this" like 10x. Glad I pre-ordered and glad I got this gem. Don't tarry around, check it out! 2. The "Foresight" Ability Saves tons of time! Especially since video games look alike in places... and I really like the feature (hold a button, camera goes to the next waypoint as long as it is held)! I would even like it if "Foresight" was in the other Remasters, if it is I'm trying it! 3. Chase AND Cinema I like how I can change from cinematic to chase at will, this should be carried to the next game they make...but especially Defiance: 1 & 2 (or really, any flipping game ever!) Would be cool for other games in the series too (to switch back and forth with the one caveat being the cinematic scenes change like Defiance instead of just derpy like the lost levels...) 4. Fighting is addicting and FUN! Even makes me wish they had more additional moves to add to existing combos (like a more inclusive combo for lift attack, so maybe you push another button to lift somebody, but normally it would be a combo you can add to slash attack. (in other words the combat leaves you wanting more which is good that's just my quick thoughts) 5. Deluxe Dark Prophecy As INDO/EXO game Warm Up! I even use LOK:D to warm up for other games and it really helps for this game and others for your reflexes! Helps with coordination! 6. Blood Omen: 1 & Blood Omen: 2 Remaster Adapting Defiance Fighting Mechanics Would Be A Game Changer! Since I love this type of fighting so much, I really cannot wait until they make a Remaster for Blood Omen: 1 & 2...and adopt the fighting style of this game into it! For real! 7. Best game in the series, best replay value award goes to: Legacy of Kain: Defiance! (IMHO, if you were to replay a game and the puzzles completely change, the replay value for that game would skyrocket...I'm looking at you LOK:SR 2) 8. Defiance Fighting Mechanics For All! I wish Blood Omen: 2 would have the fighting mechanics Defiance has! I wish Soul Reaver 2 would have the fighting mechanics Defiance has! The fighting mechanics in Defiance is superior to any other Legacy of Kain games! Screw it, give the fighting mechanics of Defiance to Soul Reaver 1 too! 9. Arena?! Arena for Kain and Raziel is fun! I wish you could challenge your friends with another controller, or on LAN! Hint Hint Experience Based Critiques: 1. I would love if ALL animation cut scenes could be removed in options: a. The exceptions likely would be Kain jumping across chasms, Raziel shifting, and Warp Gate travel. b. Though, if there was a 10x shift animation option that would be welcome, and "ON". c. I would like a break from the non-skippable animations, where instead they just happen live. e. Maybe Kain and Raziel could walk around while the golems break out, or while the doors shut, or while they open, or when you are done gathering all the items and the spear shows up. Instead of me having to roll my eyes slugging through animations I saw ten million trillion times. My Hope For The Potential Of LoK: Defiance 2: (Dark Prophecy or TBA) 1. Bite a human they become your thrall until death, through experience points or something you earn. 2. You get knocked off a bridge? No problem: Kain bat forms back where he fell- immediately. 3. Beast Mode Kain 4. Leap ability anytime 5. 3rd Person & Cinema camera modes swap like this Remaster! I wish every game had this! 6. 1st person in a non threat environment is always welcome... 7. Blood Omen 2 additional fog features 8. A.I. Tony Jay return for brief appearance even 9. Running wolf Ability 10. Maybe there is a ghostbusters like place you can stab the Soul Reaver inside and Raziel gets to get some enrichment 11. Bring back leap ambush! Crossing my fingers and holding my breath! They finally fixed the camera for this game so here's to hoping!
This game goes above and beyond what a "remaster" is expected to do. It adds content, fixes complaints from the original release, restores optional cut content... It's like nothing I've ever seen. Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is the rare occurrence where an officially released title is combined with unbridled passion comparable only to standout modder projects. From my understanding, the developer team consulted and even hired on prominent members of the series' fanbase. For a remaster of a cult classic, this almost seems like an obvious move yet it's nearly unheard of in other instances. It's feels as though there was some risky decisions being made that were unpopular within the wider industry, placing Defiance Remastered into an commercial underdog status. Despite it all, the developers not only succeeded, but they exceeded every expectation I could've had. The fans who were contracted to help make this happen were given the opportunity of a lifetime, and they stuck the landing so expertly you can't help but think they've been waiting their whole lives to do it. It's such a remarkable success story that reignites my hope for the gaming industry as a whole. If you value devotion and passion in game development, I heavily recommend you support the team by purchasing this game.
Well... it is a shinier version of an old toy. Doesn't bring the same joy as discovering the story for the first time. The combat mechanics are brain dead, the controls are flaky (both keyboard and gamepad). I played it with the hopes I will experience the story anew... granted I am 23 years older now. The story is great, you endure the gameplay for the story. Voice acting is unmatched til this day.
