The Coma series by Devespresso Games is a masterclass in indie-2D hand-drawn survival horror. Closer in play style to Clock Tower with a core game thread of sneaking, hiding, running, and solving puzzles to unravel a nut-bag story. Is nut bag hyphenated? Anyway, I played the entire series back-to-back because I have too much time and have a love for all things Korean culture and nut-baggary. The original is The Coma: Cutting Class (later re-released as The Coma: Recut), followed by a sequel, The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, and a companion to the sequel called The Coma 2b: Catacombs. Coma 3: Bloodlines was released earlier this year. Devespresso Games does a great job on building on each game and adding much-needed elements to gameplay or fixes. While the first entry starts out slow, eventually the developers introduced resource management, minor crafting, and better health and stamina systems to the later games. I am unsure if there is any juice left to squeeze from this series, but the adventure was worth it. The Coma 3: Bloodlines is the latest in the series and shows up with a whole grocery bag of new additions. New abilities! New bosses! New reasons to scream into a pillow! Where the earlier games stuck you with one protagonist and your own crippling anxiety, Bloodlines reunites the old gang. Youngho, Mina, and Ms. Song are back and you get to rotate through all three throughout the campaign, each with their own special skill set for not dying. PROS - Art style. The game keeps the series' signature hand-drawn, comic-book look in 2D side-scrolling form, but it is a real “glow up” from earlier entries. The characters look more "alive" than ever thanks to a wardrobe of hand-drawn expressions and poses. Gone is the stiff, twitchy animation of old. - Three protagonists. The headline new feature and it keeps things fresh. Youngho can now climb beanstalks like he is auditioning for a fairy tale, Mina is rodent-sized and can crawl through vents, and Ms. Song has...a magic fruit knife. Sorry, Ms. Song. - Boss fights. The game folds boss fights nicely into the game. It forces you to use the environment instead of standing there trading hits like it is a parking lot fistfight. Bonus: every new boss is creepy in its own delightfully specific way. CONS - Youngho can fight now. Some might call it "scrappy." I call it unreliable, unnecessary, and mildly insulting. Combat is a three-hit Necroblade combo with a delay you could set your watch to, followed by a stamina bill. It is like watching a karate chop performed by someone doing it for the very first time, in slow motion, underwater. Fighting usually eats more healing items than it is worth, so "engaging the enemy" is rarely the smart move. Just run, dummies. This is not Dark Souls. Nobody's giving you a trophy for parrying a ghost. - Linear feel. Sure, there are some fun new maps (apartment, city streets, base), but eventually, drumroll please, we are back at the high school. THAT high school. When will it stop tormenting me?! There's no real reason for the backtracking like in previous games. ZZZZzzzzz. - Story. Good gawd, this story. With every new installment, the plot gets more tangled than a fishing line left in a drawer for ten years. At some point you stop trying to follow the lore and just start nodding along like you understand what a "soul-severed high schooler" is supposed to mean. The developers attempt to bring the story arch to a semi-close at the end of Bloodlines, but the payoff is underwhelming and just leaves more questions. Example: Arin. Who the hell was Arin?!
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this one. I’ve played the first two games, and while The Coma 3: Bloodlines does some things incredibly well, it falls short in a few other areas. First off, the graphics are a massive step up. The game looks so much better and more polished compared to the previous titles. But the absolute biggest deal for me was the Turkish language support. Huge thanks to the devs for including it! They also added some fresh mechanics that give the gameplay a really nice, different vibe, which I appreciated. But here is the downside: it’s just not that scary anymore. I honestly didn't feel the same tension or horror that I experienced in the first two games. I don't know if it's just me getting used to the series, but it really wasn't a nerve-wracking experience. It also felt way easier than the older games, which kind of killed the challenge. As for the story, it's just kinda "meh." It didn't grab me at all and felt pretty weak overall. At the end of the day, it's visually stunning and the new mechanics are fun, but if you're coming into this expecting the intense, challenging horror of the first two games, you might be a bit disappointed.
Well, not a bad game but not as great as the 2nd game. Finally we got the whole story and the finale. Mina looked better with short hair tho. It takes like 4-5 hours to beat. Got different endings depending on your actions. If you can not achieve the true ending then you do not get a satisfying finale and no info about the whole story so you should better manage it.

The Coma 3: Bloodlines finally concludes the story of The Coma series and fully explains who these shamans, spirit hunters, and this whole “coma” are from A to Z. Story: A direct continuation of The Coma 2 that clearly shows the story isn’t over yet, and the enemies must be stopped. Gameplay: 1. Everything is now on a higher level. For the first time in the series, there are three main characters. Each one has unique gameplay, which creates a real “WOW” effect. 2. The combat system is also a nice addition. Now (playing as the main guy in the area), you can fight back not only against mosquitoes, but also against your favorite “MILF teacher” and her knife-wielding companion. 3. There’s not just one main villain anymore — there are four of them. Including the “MILF teacher.” 4. The final boss has unique mechanics, which, after finishing the second game, can feel overwhelming. He’s tough. --- Now let’s go over the pros and cons. Pros (+): Story Gameplay in certain moments Only 5 GB on HDD (yes, the game supports HDD) Optimization in some areas Steam achievements Mina’s attractive legs (that the general seemed to admire) Cons (-): Gameplay in certain moments Mosquitoes The guy with the axe The final boss Not being able to beat the final boss and reach the credits Had to watch the ending on YouTube Paid DLC for better outfits for the girls No Steam trading cards No cheat codes or proper trainers (like God Mode) to beat the final boss Stamina system The game uses a lot of VRAM, and system requirements don’t match reality (it used 7.7 GB VRAM for me, while recommending something like an Nvidia GeForce 7900) No proper resolution or graphics settings (resolution can only be changed in windowed mode) --- Overall: If we ignore the fact that I couldn’t beat the final boss with a single “X” button and that he spawns tons of enemies and traps right in front of you, the game is good. I recommend it, but because of frustrating moments and the final boss — only 6.9/10 The Coma 3: Bloodlines или история о успехе разработчиков? Он сложный. А теперь напишем все +/- этой игры. Плюсы(+) в игре: Сюжет Геймплей в каких то моментах 5гб на HDD. Да, Игра поддерживает HDD Оптимизация в каких-то определённых местах Ачивки Steam в игре Сексуальные ножки Мины, которые хотел облизать генерал Минусы (-) в игре: Геймплей в каких-то определённых моментах Комары Дядя с Топором Главный босс в игре Невозможность из-за слабоумия овоща пройти финального босса и дойти до субтитров Посмотрел финал на YouTube Платные DLC на более красивую одежду для девочек Отсутствие Карточек Steam Отсутствие чит кодов или нормальных трейнеров на GodMode, чтоб пройти финального босса Стамина в игре Игра требует очень большой объем VRAM, а системные требования не соответствует реальности. У меня игра употребляла 7.7гб VRAM при том, что в игре рекомендуемые системные требования Nvidia GeForce 7900 Отсутствие настроек разрешения экрана и настроек графики. Разрешение экрана можно менять только в оконном режиме. В целом, если не считать, что я дебил и не могу убить финального босса с одной кнопки "X" и который спавнит очень много врагов и ловушек у себя перед носом, игра хорошая.
