Life is Strange is genuinely a game I believe everyone should play at least once in their life. I played the first Life is Strange years ago, but before that, I was never really interested in story-driven games. For me, a game just needed good gameplay. I would skip cutscenes and dialogue whenever I could. I even tried Mass Effect once and deleted it within an hour because there was just too much talking for me. The only reason I ended up playing Life is Strange was because I had a terrible PC at the time, and it was one of the games my computer could actually run. And oh my god, I was not prepared for what I was getting into. This game was so good that, somehow, as a boy, I actually felt like I was experiencing things from the perspective of a teenage girl. I became invested in her relationships, and the choices I was making in a way I had never experienced in a game before. Life is Strange completely changed how I looked at video games. Before playing it, I didn't really care about stories in games. After playing it, I started appreciating how powerful storytelling in video games could be. A game could make you care about characters, make difficult choices, and genuinely feel something in a way that other forms of media couldn't. It changed my perspective on video games and my life. To me, Life is Strange is an almost perfect game. Not because everything about it is flawless, but because of the experience it gave me and how much it changed the way I viewed games. I genuinely think everyone should experience it at least once.
I'd only recently begun trying out the "Life is Strange" franchise because played very few "choice-matter" games, aside from the "Until Dawn" and "Telltale" series. Finally became interested in this franchise after completing the game with all achievements. In my opinion, it's more than just a game but an intense emotional journey. This episodic narrative game redefines how games present teenage stories, life choices, and their consequences, with countless lessons to be learned along the way. Unlike other narrative choice games (such as those by Telltale) that often involve regretting immediate decisions, Life is Strange allows players to rewind time to see the short-term consequences of other choices. However, the game's genius is that it remains unnerving because the long-term consequences remain mysterious. One of the best aspects of this game is its audio. The music by Syd Matters, Jose Gonzalez, Mogwai, and alt-J creates a powerful atmosphere and ambiance. In the future, if have a time, I will also try other LIS series such as LIS2, True Colors, Double Exposure, Reunion 💯
Years after release, I finally played Life Is Strange. Now I understand why people still talk about it. I went into this game almost completely blind and honestly wasn't expecting much more than a decent choice-based story. Instead, I ended up sitting through the credits wondering what the hell I was supposed to do with my emotions afterwards. The more time I spent with Max and Chloe, the more invested I became. Their friendship feels messy, real and human. They annoy each other, support each other and make mistakes. By the end, I cared about them way more than I thought I would I spent a long time thinking about the final choice. No matter what I picked, it felt like I was losing something important. Few games have made me sit and think that hard before clicking a button. Games come and go. Most are forgotten a week later. Life is Strange is one of the few games that stayed in my head after I finished it. If you have not played it yet, go in blind. The story deserves to unfold without spoilers and I highly recommend it. I'm glad I finally played it.
Genuinely a masterpiece. When I picked this game up for €3 during a Steam sale, I wasn’t expecting much from it. I thought it was going to be just another story game like any other, but it turned out to be one of the best games I have ever played. 10/10, definitely worth trying.
