Saw all of the negative reviews about this game and not sure why? Just recently purchased this and I am loving it so far - Coming from Satisfactory and people on here are complaining about the world being too large with nothing within it and needing to run far to get the resources you need, guessing they havnt played early game on Satisfactory xD. Bought this game as it feels like a more relaxing zone out compared to Satis, any farming crop game like this is a win.

Great game. Unlike a lot of reviewers, I loved the direction the devs took it. They got rid of claustrophobic map in favour of way more expansive one. They clearly took page from Satisfactory and sandboxed the hell out of it instead of a tighter, more railroad'y questline of Legacy version. Some people like railroad gameplay, nothing wrong with that, some people like a sandbox. The difference is, with sandbox you can stay way longer with a game (potentially forever) and really spread your wings. Overall, very underrated, this game is my goodtime boy, my sweet cheeks.

For the current version of the game its a fun experience, but a bit sad because its legacy version was a promising development direction with story and lore to its world. The reason they changed their direction of the development was because people felt that there was not much to do in the game, so the devs wanted to expand the world and gameplay, but that lead to them needing to quit their old directive of the game and started over. Fortunately its new direction of the development gave it more places to explore, build, and have fun. But it also means that all you knew of it before is gonna be missed, unless you go and play the legacy version of it. (Though there is no telling if they gonna keep the old version forever, so you can at least enjoy it untill it may happen) I would recommend it if you like this kind of building and open world exploration, but if you wanted more story then building, then its probably not for you since there is not much lore of the game then what you could only experience in the Legacy version.

This game is amazing! Let me give you a review from someone that's comfort level 5, 16,800 plots of farmland, and maxed out their mech and animal pens. I've spent 100 hours between early early access and had the pleasure of playing through every single update so far. I've played both solo and co-op and can say 100% the game is better with someone to play with. I see a lot of reviews from players who haven't even touched the game for an hour and think they know everything about the game. Talk about ignorance. Here's the bread and butter: 1. SO COZY- Between the soft lofi beats, the calm sounds of the water, the wind, and the machinery working, the atmosphere is beyond relaxing. 2. You like mechs?! IT HAS MECHS! Seriously, the amount of customization and transformation you can do to this mech while every change runs seemlessly is amazing. 3. BRING FRIENDS! One of the best games to create a farm with while exploring everything. Don't get me started on how funny it is to watch them get sucked into tornadoes and sent across the map! 4. NPC's - Their is plenty of wildlife roaming around, animals to raise, and 2 very friendly and funny npc characters to chat with and complete some quests for them. 5. DRONES! I love these little buggers. I have 16,800 plots (and I can make more) and with 11 drone stations I'm able to fully water and maintain all of my plots without any struggles. 6. Building/Crafting - It's gorgeous. It's not perfect, but it's fantastic once you get the hang of it. All I ask for are more items to decorate with. Especially lighting options. I want more! I also appreciate the fact you have to have proper support in order to hold up roofs, ceilings, and beams. 7. The SCENERY! The views, the clouds, the sky, the colors, and the planets. Chefs kiss! Everything is so beautiful! As a game in early development still, this is an A+ game. Ignore the haters who clearly haven't spent any time in the game.

Lightyear Frontier is a cozy gem of a farm/crafter hybrid. Let's get the TL;DR out of the way first: There are a lot of negative reviews about Shifting Gears, and understandably so. Prior to the update, this game was essentially an extremely polished tech-demo. It had a clean design, a linear narrative, and encouraged investment. It's understandable that people would be upset by a change in direction. That said, people have also become accustomed to Early Access meaning "finished game awaiting content", which Lightyear certainly wasn't. What the game is now is a robust platform for future expansion, a giant step closer to being that "finished game awaiting content". It traded out the training wheels to go from something you would demo at a expo to a longer-form and deeper game which has room to grow, while still being fully and extensively playable in its current form. On to the game itself: Lightyear Frontier is a cozy crafter. The building system is pretty solid (standard survival crafter fare with a rudimentary support system) and the crafting is straight-forward (refining via "put materials in and wait" for most of it). Farming isn't particularly complicated ( though grow times vary and there is a simple nutrient system for crops which can add some interesting choices ), as is the case with the livestock system that is added later. What the game excels in, and which is added or expanded upon in the Shifting Gears update, is a calm immersion via the Mech; it's not just a gimmick, but what draws you into the setting. Exploration is a huge part of the game, and nuance with the Mech makes it go from a slog to a journey. It adds a number of factors to be mindful of without being punishing (they can even be adjusted/disabled at any time): Fuel management gives a sense of how long you've been in the field/encourages you to look for natural deposits, damage from falling and deep water helps you to be mindful of your surroundings and adds some tension when you're eyeing resources on a cliff, and your mass feels omnipresent (sprinting into a forest is a good way to damage you and the trees you crushed). What's nice is that none of the aforementioned features ever feel punishing. You have no time pressure, you can always teleport home, it's easy to craft repairs and fuel (though better versions encourage tech progression). It's a game that begs to be played at your leisure. Would I play this game obsessively? Not a chance. But when the world is a bit too much and you want a break from it, Lightyear Frontier is a great choice.
