Noticed that almost every "not recommended " had less than 24 hours of gametime, that being said, play the game the long way. Play the game NOT with the intent to finish it right away, and you can have so much fun. On startup it says " this game is in testing" so why people are complaining about it not being done bewilders me. Lightyear Frontier is fun, colorful, creative, and expanding more with every update. I would describe it as "the cozy version of Satisfactory", with over 300 hrs on both games mentioned, lightyear Frontier has been a fun game to play around my SO because shes constantly saying things like "awh, the cows (Mox) are so cute" or "the crops you farm are so pretty". I like farming sim, I like building factories, I like not having pressure but still get challenged, I like resource management, so I love Lightyear Frontier.
I am quite a stranger to automation games (granted, I haven't reached proper automation in Lightyear Frontier yet), but I am no stranger to farming sims. I have reached proper automation. Thoughts below. This game is good. A stable 7.5/10 for me and IMHO deserves more than 74% positive reviews (game score not related to game reviews). It has interesting mechanics (crop rotation, the mech itself), it somehow feels slightly overencumbered by the interface (something the devs are working on atm), and it takes just enough of my brain activity to not feel bored while I'm working. Pros: the mech is cool and feels awesome the crop system is neat and i like it the building mechanic is pretty nice and stuff looks cozy and farmer-pilled overall i enjoy playing it, hopping on and off in-between work tasks Cons: the production time is pretty long for the materials. it's okay with me since i have other stuff to do but i can understand the frustration of waiting for three minutes for one iron bar the progression is kinda all over the place, it's either too long or too quick or you get half of what's important and the other half you open 20 hours later the mech moves cool but the tripping mechanic is kinda wonk. I didn't mention any issues that the devs are openly working on, like the mech customization, or the issues which can be fixed by the player themselves, like the fuel consumption which can be lowered in settings (just as I did). Overall it's cool and neat and I like supplying colonies with food in exchange for kind words and goodies. I think you would probably like it too. Oh and if the DEVS see this review by any chance, lemme just put my own two cents: 1. Pls make a dedicated fuel slot in the inventory, I'm tired of autosorting my fuel in some chest 2. Pls make an option to look at everything you have on your farm/farms, like a list UPDATED POINTS (reasons below): 3. Allow all the recipes to be automated by the AUTOMATOR (it's in the name, come on) 4. Allow the automators to be linked for more efficiency or let it use every resource automatically 5. Allow the water to be filled by the rain UPDATE AFTER REACHING AUTOMATION That's it? Really? It is pretty underwhelming. You get watering drones and huge water barrels (but you unlock water pumps much-much later, so you refill the barrels manually and it's a SLOW process even for me) You get something called 'Automotor' which is a glorified chest that can be connected to 10 crafting stations, automating 1 (!!!) recipe out of the whole station list. You would think that you can at least bypass the 10 stations per automotor by making, say, 20 stations that are connected to 2 automotors, and then those 2 automotors you connect to 1 automotor, but NOOOO you cannot do that, the automotors are not considered stations so they just disappear from this chain of command. It's REALLY underwhelming tbh. The rest of the game is pretty chill. The only other major issue I've realised is that the game is...mech-sized, if you know what I mean. Of course it all looks big when you exit the mech, but it all looks kinda mediocre when you are in the mech.
It's fun but the progression is really wonky. You don't get any of the automation till really late in the game and even then it gets to the point where you need to make like 20k berries for one planet. Hopefully there will be more into automation and sorting soon because current automation for creation and storage is very weird. I can't an oil press put things into a chest and then have the chest pump the oil into generators. Also the creator automation machine needs to have some ability to set what you want to make.
Love the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game There's bad reviews which made me question "Should I get it?" But its SOOOO worth there's a lot of content I'm about 40 hours in and I haven't even started my second farm and haven't even touched The last few milestones. I will say that The trailers are funny and irritating because if you lose it Its SO hard to find unless its just right behind you, I have had a time where my trailer got blown up and I Hooked back up to it and I went to walk away and it BLASTED me across the zone craziest stuff but its all SUPER fun the satisfying to plant tons of crops and harvest them and even get your mounds to plant stuff set up, I love how you need to explore to get new stuff the exploration in this game is fantastic all in the end this games a 10/10 SUPER excited to see what the future holds for this game!!!
A lot of the negative reviews are due to them apparently changing how the game was (apparently more casual?) into something closer to a Satisfactory. Conveniently, more Satisfactory is something I'll take any day, and for $15, it has been well worth its money so far. Automation was just added and I'm looking forward to it (though I think maybe some simple elements of it could maybe be introduced a bit earlier?). Lots of polish, looks great, runs great.
