No local co-op sucks ye, but this game has made good use of that design space. EDIT: They added in Local Co-op!! So now its just a straight up banger all around. Really strong combat mechanics. Really strong roguelite components. It feels fun to experiment with different relics/weapons/armor combos. Many other roguelites do not have nearly as good replayability. AMAZING art. Enemies and bosses have almost always get with me a "wow that is fricken cooooool". Game slaps, definitely play it.

I don't have an endless game budget and rarely spend over $10 on a game, if I do you know it's something important to me and/or I trust my money will be well spent. I paid $15 for this in Early Access with little to no reservations about 10 minutes after I found out it existed, because between my experience with the original and what I could see what they were doing via screenshots, gameplay, and positive reviews, I had complete faith this would be a banger, and it has absolutely delivered so far. I've done a few runs over a handful of hours and have zero regrets, and am looking forward to many more. -IN SHORT: This is a fantastic Roguelite. Everything about it feels basically perfect so far. I really appreciate the variety of items and builds, and the amount of choices given to you during runs. If you played the first Lost Castle, it was a pretty good template but the execution felt a little lacking, and like there was a lot more they could do with it. This is them doing more - everything the first Lost Castle had the potential to be, and SO much more. For those who don't know what that means, I've only done a few runs and this is already looking to be one of my favorite Roguelites I've ever played. And I say that as someone with probably 300 hours in Rogue Legacy 2 which sets a pretty high bar for the genre for me. I basically had to force myself to stop playing because I could easily just do run after run after run, and just keep going. -DIGGING A BIT DEEPER: Lost Castle 2 feels to the first game like Rogue Legacy 2 feels to its predecessor, taking everything it was and building on it exponentially, but it also hasn't been afraid to do away with what didn't work and try some new things in the process. It feels like the developers have learned a lot from some of the better games in the genre, resulting in a game that feels like Castle Crashers meets Rogue Legacy 2, with a bit of Dead Cells sprinkled in, yet it isn't just copying them and feels entirely like its own game. I've played tons of games in the genre and can say I haven't played one that feels quite like this yet, and yet it feels exactly like a game I've just been waiting for someone to make. Even the closest things to it have fallen way short of this. I think games done in this exact style will just be compared to this in the future, because I have a hard time imagining them doing it better or taking it further, The only way games will be able to set themselves apart is by doing something different; otherwise, it will just be like, "Well, Lost Castle 2 already did it." As for the actual content in the game, there are tons of nuanced, interweaving mechanics, which I can already tell from things coming together in my first few runs, can result in all kinds of interesting, effective, and outright fun builds. I LOVE the way all your different items can stack and synergize with each other's effects, sometimes with a few different strategies. There's enough layers and item variance that it seems unlikely you would ever just be all in on one specific effect, it seems more about having a good set of mechanics working for you. (Some item & ability spoilers:) In one run I had a little floating companion sniping enemies, and was summoning little explosive minions constantly, with a pulsing AOE around my character spreading poison gas clouds everywhere which would home in on enemies because of a passive relic I found, all while wielding a weapon which let me blast into the sky and come crashing back down as a meteor on my enemies. I also had a passive which added a chance to send magic missiles at enemies on weapon hits, and my weapon had a VERY high auto-attack rate, so it just felt like I was attacking everything with like a machine gun-esque barrage of all these different elements. It felt AWESOME. My best runs so far have left me feeling very powerful, but not unstoppable. If anything, there is way more complexity than there even needs to be in Lost Castle 2 - certainly more than I was anticipating. But I don't say that as a bad thing. I just mean it could have had less and still been a ton of fun. But it's not the sort of thing where you would be punished for not paying attention to every detail or number. Rather, it can simply be very rewarding to realize all the subtle ways each little piece of the puzzle fits together. If you want to just use the weapons and armor you like and get whatever makes your stats go up, you can play like that. But for those of us who enjoy nuanced itemization and the opportunity to build a uniquely powerful character, all of the ingredients are here. Personally, I could never have enough randomization and chaos in a game like this, and they feel like they are going all in on the "zany roguelite" approach, so this is everything I could want it to be and more. I'll be playing this a LOT.

Super fun rougelike, especially multiplayer. Do be aware that the game is extremely buggy in its current state. Numerous small glitches and bugs, the major ones being often when changing levels the screen will go black and before I can play again the enemies have been hitting me for 10-20 seconds. Also sometimes the game will stop recognizing controller inputs which can lead not being able to advance to the next stage. If you are not willing to deal with bugs then wait till it is out of early access. For me the sheer fun of the game outweighs the negatives and it will only get better as the devs continue to work on the game.

The game is absolutely amazing, and that's saying a lot considering it's still in Early Access. From the moment I started playing, I was hooked by the sheer variety it offers in almost every aspect. Weapon Variety: The range of weapons is fantastic. Whether you prefer close combat, long-range attacks, or something more magical, there's something for everyone. The weapons feel distinct and fun to use, each with its own unique mechanics and strengths. Enemy Variety: The enemies are equally diverse. You'll encounter a wide range of foes, each with different behaviors and strategies required to take them down. This keeps the gameplay fresh and challenging as you progress. Boss Variety: The bosses are a real highlight. Each one is designed with care, offering unique challenges that test your skills and strategy. No two boss fights feel the same, and the sense of accomplishment after defeating them is immense. Visuals: Visually, the game is stunning. The art style is cohesive and beautiful, with detailed environments that draw you into the world. Whether you're exploring dark dungeons or lush forests, the game looks and feels alive. Coop: Playing in co-op mode is a blast, especially with friends. However, one tip: make sure the host selects the proper server region. The default is set to China, and I think this is causing most of the desync issues that some players have reported. My brother and I switched to a closer server and had a smooth experience. The game is a lot of fun with others, and it's clear the developers have put effort into making the co-op experience enjoyable. Room for Improvement: While the game is already fantastic, I'm looking forward to even more content. More weapons, more enemies, and maybe one or two additional runes would add even greater diversity to the gameplay. Given the quality of the previous game by this developer, I have no doubt they'll deliver. Final Thoughts: Supporting this developer feels like a no-brainer. They've created something special here, and I can't wait to see how the game evolves. It's a must-play, even in Early Access, and I'm excited to see what the final version will bring. 10/10 – Highly recommended!
