Lucy Dreaming is a retro point & click adventure game with a unique story, great puzzles, and lots of dark humor. Story You're Lucy, and you aren't just dreaming, as the title suggests, you are having nightmares, every night, for years. And you have finally decided to get to the bottom of it. What's causing them, and can you put a stop to it? Gameplay Lucy Dreaming has four different actions that you can perform, look at, pick up, talk to, and use. That could be really tedious, but for the most part, it is very obvious which action(s) make(s) sense, and when to use which. The game has several locations to explore, and you can instantly travel between these locations by clicking on a map. Later in the game, you also have the option to "dream" of a few additional locations, which is unfortunately a bit more laborious, especially if you want to switch back and forth between different dreams. A "dream map" of discovered dreams would have been a bit more convenient. In the options, you can disable swearing, which might be relevant for people who say "fudge" and "sugar" on the regular. Without this option, I wouldn't even be aware that there *is* swearing in this game, apparently. As a nice touch, if you get any of the optional achievements, you earn a patch on your in-game backpack. Conclusion Lucy Dreaming is an excellent adventure game, and the first full-length game by a tiny UK husband and wife dev team. It is mostly non-linear, and has lots of logical puzzles. The voice acting is excellent accross the board, and I especially loved Lucy's VA. Lucy is a precocious child, and thankfully they didn't try to make her sound like a toddler. Rather, she sounds like 13 going on 30, which is both more enjoyable, and fits the somewhat darker story very well. My only criticism is the ending, which could have been a bit more fleshed out, but that by no means diminished my enjoyment of the game overall. Highly recommended.

A clever game, unique because of the "dreaming" mechanic that requires you to solve puzzles between the real world and the "dream" world. I feel like the game doesn't really make it clear that you can leave the dream world and return whenever you like, so it's easy to get stuck early on until you realize this. Graphics are the expected retro pixelated type that you'd expect from a point-and-click game like this, and they're well done. Character design is a little confusing to me; the design of Lucy herself reminds me of the early big-head LucasArts games (Maniac Mansion, Zak McCracken), but the rest of the characters are more "normal" looking. I get that this was likely a stylistic choice, but I think it would have been less jarring if the character design was more consistent. Voice acting is mostly good, though the quality of the audio for some characters is questionable (as though not recorded in the same environment, introducing echoes, etc.). Puzzles are mostly logical, but there are a few that get into moon logic territory. A couple of warnings for certain types of gamers: Resolution-seekers: the ending feels very much like a non-ending, despite the fact that it does resolve the initial plot point. If you like for things to be wrapped up, this one may frustrate you. Achievement-chasers: one of the achievements can only be unlocked if you're playing the game on a specific day of the year. So either you're messing with your computer's date, or you're waiting until the correct date in order to get this one. It's a short game, but a fun one, with an interesting story. No regrets on this one.

LOVED this game. It's ridiculous in the best way. I really came to love the main character. If you liked Thimbleweed Park you'll like this. I needed the walkthrough for some of the complicated back and forth solutions.

Lucy Dreaming is one of the most unusual and imaginative point and click adventures I’ve played in a long time. It blends real darkness with light, witty humor in a way that feels both surprising and strangely comforting. Lucy’s distant parents, her brother’s unsettling experiments on stuffed and living animals, and her recurring nightmares all create a world that could have been heavy, yet Lucy herself approaches everything with resilience and charm. The game’s standout feature is its puzzle structure. Progress depends on moving between three layers of experience: reality, dream, and nightmare. Each dream has its own logic and items, which can only be used inside the nightmare. Learning how to navigate these three interconnected spaces to resolve each nightmare feels both fresh and clever, and I haven’t seen many games attempt something quite like it. And even though this multilayered world can feel confusing at first, everything eventually comes together in a wonderfully coherent way. Most puzzles are inventive and satisfying, though some are quite challenging. One puzzle (the organ puzzle) was completely beyond me even after reading the explanation, but the rest of the game strikes a good balance between creativity and fair difficulty. The writing and characters are another highlight. The world is full of odd, memorable personalities, and the humor lands consistently. One of the funniest segments involves two futuristic devices in the local library, both produced by a company called S.A.T.A.N – Self-Aware Textbook Arrangement Networks. One device serves as an AI-based local newspaper archive, and the other is a telepathic book-lending interface. Completely absurd and absolutely hilarious. My only real disappointment was the ending. Even in its revised form it felt not only emotionally flat, but also rushed and ultimately unsatisfying. Without going into spoilers, there is a narrative choice involving Lucy’s memories that made our whole journey with her feel less meaningful, even if it conveniently resolves things for her character. I appreciate the developer’s willingness to revisit the ending based on player feedback, but for me it still didn’t land. Despite that, Lucy Dreaming remains a standout adventure full of heart, originality, and charm. I’ve already tried the demo for Heir of the Dog, the studio’s next title, and it’s clear they have something genuinely special to offer the point and click genre. Highly recommended, especially for players looking for something clever and unexpected.

BottomLine at the Top: Hi yes remember me? The guy that plays P&C games? Yes I still play them. Yes this is a good one to play ;) Intro: There needs to be more P&C's in general, but especially ones with British humor. This game cracked me up. Pros: -Starts Right up, zero bugs or issues during game play -Classic LucasArts style -Funny as F*$&, excellent Brit humor -This is random, but I love P&C's with rainy scenes in them, idk what it is but whenever I see it I get all content inside. Maybe its gas? -Def an original story. -Lots to point and click on. Appreciate the detailed descriptions for most clickable areas as well. Not too much generic messages like "I Can't"/"That doesn't make sense"/"Stop clicking the badger glass eye on everything" -This is what i would also describe as a "cozy" adventure. -Lots of classic P&C game references. -Fully voiced acted by professional voice actors -Has a roland/adlib music mode lol -Diary todo list keeps track of objectives -Object/hotspot highlight identifier functionality Meh...: -There is a lot of back and forth in this game. Some sequences end up being tedious to get through. -I had about 7.5 hours in this game....spread out over the course of :::checks notes:::... TWO YEARS?!?!? Jesus I work too much. Anyway I really try not to ride developers too hard over the cost of their indy P&C games, especially for as polished a one as this. That being said I do know that the current $19USD will put off some of my fellow afficionados. To them I say its def worth it if you see it on sale. -Some people might think this is a family game based on the character and branding. Its not. I wasn't looking for one so no biggy to me but some people might not catch that right away. -Only 12 save slots. Again not a deal breaker but I prefer infinite. -I only managed to get 3 achievements during my playthough, i think there is like 14. I probably won't go back to find them. Cons: -Near the ending there's this weird tonal shift. The ending itself feels almost like it should have been in a different game. Final Thoughts: A great P&C that hits all the nostalgia points. Ya the ending's a little...blah. But you know what, I've come to the conclusion that its really hard to make endings for great P&C games. Its not an excuse, but I understand. Overall though this was def a fun one and I'd recommend it to all my fellow P&C afficionados.
