A Silent Adventure Even though 15 years have passed since its release, Machinarium still manages to keep up with modern standards. We are facing a title that has become a classic for many people, including myself. In short, Machinarium is one of those rare games that does not rely on classic dialogues or lengthy text, progressing entirely through visual storytelling. We control the little robot Josef, who has been thrown into a scrap heap, and our sole objective is to return to the city and rescue the female robot we love. The story is told completely without speech, relying on thought bubbles, animations, and environmental details. Because of this, we don't read text to understand the game, we genuinely observe. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3668302927 Puzzles: The Heart of the Game What lies at the heart of the game is environmental puzzles: Power of Observation: We can only interact with places within Josef's reach. Josef being able to stretch or shrink his height is a fantastic mechanic that adds depth to the puzzles. No Pixel Hunting: Unlike many point-and-click games, here we can only interact with items close to us. This eliminates the necessity of randomly clicking all over the screen and forces us to explore. Since it is a different gameplay style, we shouldn't forget that it can cause a nervous breakdown in some spots. Difficulty Level: Some puzzles are genuinely tough. In the beginning, because I couldn't quite get used to Josef's mechanics, there were spots where I got stuck. If we get too stuck, the hint book that can be opened once per section comes to the rescue. However, what we shouldn't forget here is that to use the hint book, we have to successfully beat a small minigame. Developer Amanita Design crafted every single detail beautifully in this completely hand-drawn world. The rusty metal city, quiet streets, and subtly melancholic ambiance are constantly felt. Animations also add character: small details like Josef stretching and shrinking strengthen both the gameplay and humor. It manages to create a bond without words. When it comes to the music, we are greeted by the soundtrack composed by Tomáš Dvořák (Floex). Ambient-style tracks complete the soul of the game. It is neither too intrusive nor lost in the background. Especially the tracks playing while wandering alone constantly maintain that slightly sorrowful tone of the game. When the silent narrative + music combine, the game truly feels like an interactive short film. after so many years, it really hits different now. i came back for the nostalgia at first, but it's absolutely worth it even if you're not familiar with annapurna projects. machinarium is a simple story with some not-so-friendly puzzles, even if you're not a kid. this game is a rare example of one that doesn't take you for a fool. not to mention the incredibly cozy atmosphere and excellent setting. you want to come back here not only because of the art, the difficulty, or the story, but mainly because of the feeling machinarium gives you. these tiny shabby streets, silly robots, and warm tones - it all makes you feel at home <3 the ost still sounds great too (～￣▽￣)～
