Moldrise is absolutely fantastic. I can't recommend this game highly enough. Set within a decaying apartment block, an infection is spreading through our foot, relentlessly urging us to GET TO THE ROOF, we need to figure out a way to do exactly that whilst enlisting the help of our incredibly sketchy neighbours and using whatever resources to manage the infection before it reaches our brain. The aesthetic is what initially grabbed me. The atmosphere is oppressively heavy, damp, and claustrophobic. You can almost feel the thickness of the air, smell the mould (I'm British, so the spelling is different) and decay creeping through the diseased building, and feel the discomfort of climbing endless stairwells as blood slowly fills and dampens your socks. Failure is expected and death is inevitable more than once, with limited resources and obstacles standing in our way. Despite that, the game never becomes frustrating. Each attempt teaches you something new, gradually revealing more of the building and making future runs easier to navigate. Although it's a fairly short experience, I still think it's well worth the price tag. The atmosphere alone makes it memorable, and I'll definitely be returning to mop up the remaining achievements and spend a little more time wallowing in the mould.

Cool little horror game. The mood here is genuinely so deliciously filthy and bleak that I kinda wish the writing would support it more. You know, more of the 13th Floor Lady and her brother, less of the hilarious pineapple pizza memes. Also, the Backrooms, really? But still, can recommend.

Moldrise is a pretty cool game about having to reach the roof in a strange apartment building. Naturally, the game isn't as straightforward as the premise might lead you to believe, and the game can be described as a knowledge game, like Outer Wilds for example. While I did enjoy playing it and can recommend it, mostly, I did find the main mechanic of the game, managing the survival meters, a strange design decision. You have three main survival meters: Infection, hunger and thirst. You use different items in order to manage them, pretty simple, nothing too special. What I thought initially, was that I would perhaps need to make decisions on how to or when to use items to make sure I'll be able to get to the end, when in truth, that was not the case. The game basically assumes and is built around the idea that you will play through it 2-3 times in order to learn how to navigate the building and reach the top. That's basically the main gameplay loop. You learn something, you eventually die due to an event or one of your meters going up and restart with newfound knowledge. So what's the issue? Because of the length of the game, of around an hour-hour and a half, and due to every single item in the game having the same location, price and trade condition, you don't really have to worry about the meters at all, which effectively makes them busywork that pads out the gametime by having you have another death condition to force a restart eventually. I was about to finish the game, and had to go to a lower floor and then return up, and yet one of my meters filled up and I had to repeat what I did for the past 10 minutes again, with no difference, other than the fact that now I know which steps I can skip. I Personally found it to be quite annoying and it didn't improve the game for me, at all, since it took my attention away from the atmosphere and the weird people you find that I was trying to immerse myself in. Two things that I have to point out before someone might think I'm insane for rambling about it: First, there is a story mode which alleviates meter management if you think what I wrote about will annoy you. Second, I would have honestly preferred that if instead of the meters we'd have more events and end conditions for the game, which would have worked quite better for what the game is going for. Gain knowledge, die, advance further. The game is also very short, at around 1-1.5 hours long and there isn't any replay value aside from a few minor interactions you can have with your newfound knowledge. All that being said, I did enjoy my time with the game and I think it's a pretty cool one, a bit pricey for the time it takes to complete, but I didn't mind it too much because these things are my jam.

This is a wild ride. Moldrise wears its inspirations on its sleeve. No, I'm not a Human and Look Outside spring to mind. If you're familiar with either of those games, buy Moldrise and thank me later. The fear of the unknown is strong with this one. There's so many questions and while you may be able to piece some of the answers together quickly, there's enough to break the mental schema of what you'd expect and fill it with some surprises. What I enjoyed the most was the exploration, learning new info, and expediting the process of completion. Gameplay loop is simple yet challenging - figure out wtf is going on with your foot while not starving or succumbing to dehydration. There are enough side stories and additional details to warrant multiple playthroughs. However, if you're just about completion the game can be wrapped up in a couple of hours. While I understand some trepidation with dropping $11.99 ($10.79 intro sale) on a couple of hours of gameplay this is well worth the price of admission. FAFO for yourself, you'll be happy that you did. UP! UP! UP!

Actually insane!!!! if you played the Demo you know what the core idea was; Its gotten fleshed out Immensely (no pun intended) The Constant grind of trying to figure it all out is addictive asf, and the way the game makes it fun to restart should honestly be studied!!! 10/10 game already and I've barely played it lmfao
