I went into it mostly because iam a HUGEE sucker for indie horror and honestly, it ended up being a really fun experience! The gameplay was probably what kept me hooked the most. I genuinely enjoyed the puzzles, especially because they made me feel like i was actually figuring things out rather than just getting random tasks thrown into my face. Nothing felt ridiculously difficult, but i liked having that little extra layer of solving stuff while the game was busy making me feel uneasy and i kind of love that in horror games. Give me something to solve while i’m already uncomfortable and i’m happy : 3 And the story was honestly one of my favorite parts too. I’m not going to spoil anything, but I really liked how it doesn’t just throw the whole story at you immediately. You slowly start picking up on things and getting a better idea of what’s happening, which kept me curious the entire time. The horror and puzzles also work really well together. There were times when i was so focused on figuring something out that i completely forgot i was playing a horror game, only to get reminded of that very quickly lol. It made exploring feel a lot more tense and i really liked that! Overall, Mole was honestly such a fun little experience! I really liked the atmosphere, the puzzles and the way the story slowly unfolds without giving everything away. It has that charm that a lot of indie horror games have and i’m really glad i played it (⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝)
MOLE is a retro styled, claustrophobic, adventure game with many unique puzzles to solve. The game is played in first person view. In this game you primarily walk around a "Digging / Drilling / Submarine" type ship, journeying deep into the earth to try to reach a mysterious signal. Many twists and turns await. The game takes approximately 4 hours to complete. + The game is extremely well made, well coded, and highly polished. + The atmosphere is amazing. Exremely detailed environments and puzzles. Even with being stylized as retro, you can still turn the graphics up high in the options menu. + The puzzles are highly unique, super creative, nothing really else like it. The game constantly throws new fresh puzzle ideas out at you, and expands on what you have learned. + The chase sequences are extremely creepy and well made. + Music and sound effects are perfectly placed, very tense and creepy sound effects. + The story is phenomenal, tugs at your emotions at times, especially if you have a son. Many twists and turns, and an exceptional ending. - Some of the complex puzzles will stump / frustrate people. Each puzzle is solvable though without a guide, if you take a breath, look around everywhere, and think outside the box at times. This game is extremely well made, screams originality, and was quite the wild ride! Overall 9.5/10
WOAH! What an experience WOW! Sometimes I think to myself, maybe I'm just ageing out of video games because everything just seems less interesting, but before that thought can settle I come across games like this that re-light the gamer fire in me. A wonderful horror game that does a great job of making you so curious you are willing to go through the horror elements if it gives you a chance of finding more stuff out. Not perfect, some minor grievances about some sequences but overall really satisfying. I thought this would be a game I finish in short bursts, but when I reloaded my save for my second session I couldn't put it down. The premise of being trapped on a vessel in a seemingly-but-not-actually desolate location has been done multiple times now but here it still feels refreshing, and I think was part of making exploration and the puzzle elements mostly intuitive and fun. The game makes you feel smart with how technical it makes everything look and sound as you're solving things. The story unfolds gradually in a way that initially keeps raising more questions than answers then ultimately provides sublime revelations I thought had awesome presentation. I felt so sorry for the main character at one point. Great indie horror!
