Despite the rather negative reviews, I decided to give this game a chance. For some reason, I became oddly determined to get 100% of the achievements. I played and completed it entirely on the Steam Deck. The game has quite a few flaws, but also several surprisingly positive aspects. Starting with the tutorial, where you learn different fishing techniques, how to control line tension, and so on, I have to admit I ended up playing through the entire game without using any of that knowledge at all. Why? Because very early on, I discovered an exploit that allowed me to instantly catch any fish. Every single one. I completely forgot that the game actually had real fishing mechanics underneath. Not long after that, I tripped over some junk on the beach and fell through the map. Luckily, the game teleported me back right away, and that bug never happened again. The main game loop revolves around sailing across different biomes and catching various fish depending on the time of day, the rod, bait, or float you’re using. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t give you much feedback or control over whether you’ve already completed everything in an area. You can talk to townsfolk who share bits of trivia about the fish, which fills your journal with scraps of information, but none of it was actually useful for gameplay. The second major gameplay element is cooking the fish. As you progress, you unlock new recipes, starting from simple ones and moving toward more complex dishes. Cooking consists of short, simple skill-based minigames. Once you get used to them, it’s almost impossible to fail, unless you completely lose focus. When I was working toward 100% achievements, I ended up spending far more time cooking than I wanted to. On one hand, the activity gets repetitive quickly, but strangely enough, it put me into a sort of trance. It wasn’t too demanding, yet it required just enough focus to keep me engaged. It reminded me of doing small handcrafts, like crocheting or weaving a basket, almost meditative. I imagine early humans felt something similar when spending all day striking stones together. On the positive side, the game features some uniquely designed fish, interesting biome mechanics, and even something close to boss fights, which I absolutely didn’t expect, but found to be a nice surprise. Unfortunately, I did encounter a softlock in the final biome and had to rely on a backup save. As for performance, despite its simple visuals, the game was absurdly demanding on the Steam Deck. Frame drops occurred even in small indoor areas where high processing power shouldn’t have been necessary. Thankfully, in the most important gameplay moments, where responsiveness actually mattered, it maintained a steady 40 FPS, and performance dips weren’t too noticeable. Another downside was the set of “friendship” quests, where you had to bring certain townspeople the same dish every day. These tasks quickly became exhausting since it was always the exact same meal. The only reward was a stamp in your journal, a not particularly engaging story about the character, and occasionally a hint about the special conditions required to catch rare fish. Unfortunately, some of these hints were incorrect, and worse, they weren’t saved anywhere in the journal. I had to rely on screenshots to remember them. This game really has a lot of potential, but in the end, it could have used more polish. Still, it managed to look quite pleasant, and at times, even genuinely interesting.

Steam deck player here. tl;dr it's a solid game I can recommend at a discount. It is difficult to recommend for retail price however. The game seems to have worked out a lot of the bugs or crashes that people discuss. I have not crashed once in 16 hours, and haven't encountered anything game breaking. I've been able to progress, beat story bosses and just unwind and relax with no issues. I know there were a lot of issues with chapter 2 boss, however I had no issues. It's very relaxing, the cooking mechanics are fun, the fishing is fun, the boating is fun, ,it's a very fun game! There are some performance issues, either due to steam deck or the game itself, but slows down inside your house/other buildings. Otherwise plays very smooth for me. The game does seem abandoned from their updates, hoping maybe they'll touch back, but do know that as of right now its been a year since the last update. Really glad I gave the game a chance and just wish more people played it and saw the changes too.

love this game ❤️ all you need to do is fish, cook, and restore a town. the NPCs are cute and have their own personalities, the story is both touching and charming, there’s no time pressure, and you have unlimited inventory — isn’t that the perfect formula for a cozy game? I didn’t encounter any bugs during my playthrough on the Steam Deck if you’re looking for something chill and cozy, you should definitely try Moonglow Bay, especially if it’s on sale

I really hope this game can recover from the review dip, because it is genuinely a real gem now (if still a bit rough around the edges). You play as an elderly character dealing with the loss of their partner. Your adult daughter is in town to help you with moving on by assisting the town with their big centennial festival. You open a seafood streetfood shop to raise money, which also leads you to investigate the mysteries plaguing the fishers of the bay. The game offers a wide range of tasks: - Rod fishing - Net fishing - Trap fishing - Line fishing - Cooking - Exploration - Photo mode - Cleaning up trash in the sea - Tasks for the townfolk - Providing townsfolk with their favourite dish - Renovating the town - Boss fights (more puzzles than fights, which I like) Early on, the game gives you almost complete control over how you want to allot your time. Lots of tasks can be done in parallel, there's always something to do. A lot of the gameplay is dexterity-based button pressing, though. I found the timing of these tasks very generous overall, but it's not suitable for everyone. What the game does NOT have: - Farming - Ranching - Breeding - Crafting - Fighting - Mining - Decorating your house - Romance - Complex friendship (I didn't miss any of these aside from more decorations. I found it relaxing to not be in charge of absolutely everything for a change. :D) I really thought the repetitive cooking minigames would annoy me, but to my surprise, they didn't. They were just interactive enough to keep the lizard brain occupied while the rest of my brain could chill in a hammock. I liked the different tools, and the mastery system to unlock new recipes is cool. Unlocking every dish is a ton of work though, but you only need that for the respective achievement. The game features unlimited inventory right off the bat, which is a blessing for a digital hoarder like me. Sadly, it lacks some QoL features on this front, but it's not egregious. Time runs on a day / night cycle, but without seasonal mechanics. You can pass time faster by sitting on benches, reading in your nook, or sleeping. You can sleep anytime and wake up in the morning, in the afternoon, or at night. Sometimes, time is slowed to a crawl for story events. Cooking doesn't take up any time. I experienced a couple of bugs, but I never lost any significant progress or had to use the emergency teleport. If your boat gets stuck, you can call an in-game tow service, and the save system is incredibly generous. You can save almost anywhere / anytime and the game autosaves after sleeping. I can't say anything about mouse/keyboard, but playing with controller was perfectly fine. I'm not the biggest fan of the blocky artstyle in general. But the animations are incredibly fluid and done with a whole lot of love. The fish models in particular are super quirky and cute. Checking out the aquarium displays is something you should definitely do. And later with the line fishing, the models really have their time to shine. You have a dog, and you can pet it. The soundtrack is nice and never became grating or repetitive. There is a co-op option, but I haven't tried it. I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. It's definitely worth full price, I got ~40 hours out of it and haven't gotten 100% yet.

Anyone else getting Lego Island vibes from the graphics? Time to relive my childhood memories :D Honestly, I just had to come here to give a positive review because this is the first cozy fishing game I have actually enjoyed. You are tasked with helping to rebuild a dying coastal town. You wander, chit chat, fish, cook. This game has a bit of everything. And it takes place on the eastern coast of Canada. Bonus points!! And no glitches for me on the deck. I got this game for $3 and it feels like an absolute steal, so give it a chance!! This is exactly how I envision a fishing game to be... zen and chill. No pressure. Just me, the open waters and my lego pieces.
