I don't know why I bought this game, it looked like an ARPG. What the heck is a rogue like dark souls game? I dunno either, but I can't stop playing it.

My only major complaint is sound design, it's a lot of high pitched sounds that I don't enjoy. The merchant room being the best example, that's just torture to my ears. It's challenging and feels responsive, sometimes i get the impression abilities aren't being properly interrupted but i haven't played enough to be certain. If you enjoy similar games and are looking for a tougher challenge, this is probably what you're looking for. Edit a few patches later: Sound still sucks. Couple of UI issues with text being cut off or menus not responding with a controller. There is a lot of keywords in the game and I feel like I'll have to reopen the mechanics menu every time I stop playing for over a week as they aren't very obvious and often they have multiple different names that refer to the same thing. Seems some of the terms are lost in translation. the game would benefit from having someone go over the english text and rephrase a good portion of it. There is a crescent (attack hint) that appears over the enemies before they attack. Some enemies, mostly bosses, have combo attacks. the hint only appears on the first attack, and then never again until the combo is finished. Some combos are just a question of learning them but then some combos have a good second delay between the 2nd and 3rd hits, they feel like they should a new hint popup, even if it's in the same combo. the attacks are way to fast to be responded too, which would be fine if there would be some extra hints within the combo. It's a bit jarring.

Absolutely worth a play, it's has fun and challenging Hades-style gameplay without the option to seemingly get overpowered. Enemies are pretty varied across levels/rooms and keep the playtime fresh. Overall, great game, looking fwd to what the devs do - hopefully more weapon choices (I love polearms and bows, hint hint).

Souls-like Hades goes HARD. What i liked: - Fluent, smooth, satisfying, fast-paced and skill-based gameplay. - Bosses/Elites are badass, unique and their movesets are so cool that it makes me wish i could play as them. - Decent roguelite elements with meta progression and unlockable weapons/skills. Could use more though. - Challenging but not overbearing. With difficulty options and meta progression you can make the game easier for yourself. - Awesome dark fantasy setting, premise, characters, and enemies. What can be improved: - Weapon/playstyle/moveset variety What i'm STRONGLY missing the most right now from this game is weapon style / playstyle variety. As of now there's only slightly different one-handers with not enough differences. The game has so much more potential to explore different type of weapons and combat styles, game has an awesome movement system, it would be a serious waste not to. Things like dual wielding, parrying/riposte, shields, massive two handers, polearms, ranged weapons like bows/crossbows, different types of magic, etc. I've seen enemies use pretty much all of this and i'm jealous as hell! I want to play these things too! Ghost skills cover some of these things a bit and are cool but it's just a small sample of what could be. Also would like some combos and advanced movesets. - Lackluster and repetitive environments with basically no randomization or variety, both visually and combat encounter wise. - Lack of events There was like 1 small combat event in the start of the game where you got ambushed and after that never seen one again. Would like to see more random events, challenges and risky situations to keep runs fresh and interesting. - Story elements and dialogue, there was some in the start but it quickly got quiet. I loved the premise and i think they should expand on the story elements during early access. High potential game. Seriously one of the more enjoyable roguelites that i've played combat-wise. It has a solid core but is barebones in terms of content and replayability even for an early access game compared to other roguelites for this price. So i'd wait to give this two person dev team some more time to cook or if the game seems interesting and fun enough support them in their early access journey.
