This game is clearly heavily inspired by the Crash Bandicoot and even more so the Donkey Kong Country game series. But that's not a bad thing. What we have here is a very polished mostly 2D platformer with a few 3D corridor passages thrown in there. The story is simple, as you would expect from such a game and the characters you meet might be entertaining for a child but are mostly not that interesting. The levels are varied and most all are fun to play, though.

I had never heard of Nikoderiko before it randomly popped up on my store page a few months back and now after playing it, I am surprised that I had never heard of it before, because it definitely deserves a bigger audience than it currently has. This is a Crash Bandicoot clone, if it is fair to call it that. It is a fun and well animated co-op game with splitscreen support, full voice acting and a pretty good story attached. I spent most of my time in this game solo, but I did try out split screen co-op for a bit with my wife, she however, isn't really into any game that requires too much movement, so we only did about two levels together. The split screen works fine though, but the difficulty is definitely lowered a lot when you can spawn on your friend after you die and avoid going back a checkpoint, but at the same time, the difficulty is also raised a bit when it comes to movement. This is a "faster" platformer that has a lot of sections that rely on speed and timing and this can be challenging to get the “rhythm” of when you both have to move at the same speed, climb and avoid obstacles to not fall behind the visible camera, which is always centered on the player furthest ahead. If you happen to fall too far behind, you die and will have to respawn on your friend to continue. If you like Crash and/or you happen to be looking for a good split-screen game, Nikoderiko might very well be it. Did you enjoy Donkey Kong Country? How about Crash Bandikoot? Yes? Okay, this is that, but much prettier. Some call it plagurism, some call it a spiritual successor, some say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Either way, this is a platformer collect-a-thon with bright colors, beautiful landscapes, and plenty to do and find along the way. Every level is packed with secrets, mini-games, side paths and more for the discerning treasure hunter. I had a blast playing it. There are some WILD difficulty spikes in the mini-games and in the final boss, but its much the same as it was back in the day--- ---the final boss does subject you to some pretty gnarly RNG, though, so be ready to beat your head against a wall if you really, really want to 100% (or rather, 106%) this one.
This game is fantastic. Looking for a platformer in days of old like Donkey Kong, Crash Bandicoot, bit of Mario and Kirby in the mix? Something with a new fresh shiny aesthetic, 2 charming characters, a vibrant world full of wonder, that eases you in easy, then shows you why the platforming genre requires patience, precision, persistence, training and above else, trails by fire to triumph? I wish for this game to be a bit better optimized, however, on a AMD 4500U Mobile with 8GB of ram on low and 80% resolution rendering, it runs fine. Attached are my main rigs specs this game runs SPLENDID: +100 FPS at max settings. I said the world is vibrant, but it LIVES, everything moves and shakes or flows with your movement, jump, bounce or crash on to things to just see them. Characters are goofy, fun and I like taking them down to advance my game. Quircky NPC's with banter from the main characters, every level feels fresh and brings something new to the table and dificulty curve is fine. Yes it gets hard fast, but only if you want it to be. I 100% these games and want ALL of the shiny things. If you forgo those, it becomes a lot more forgiving and this game have 3 discrete dificulty settings. Finally, there is no reason to stop playing, because you have unlimited continues. TRY IT, this game has a DEMO and you absolutely have to give it a go! Looking forward to finishing this game :-)
