AI: the Filler Files An alright sidestory. If you liked the writing of the first game, you will get a few laughs at this one. Despite costing double of the first game, it's half as long though, or maybe shorter. Combined with most assets being reused, and most characters not getting much room to grow as this game takes place between the 2 main games, it's a tad hard to justify the cost increase. The puzzles were cool at least. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the devs and recommend this game overall. But I hope they'll only go up from here.

It's decent if you get it on sale and go in with the mindset that it's a shorter fanservice game. You get 3 somniums and 4 Zero Escape style escape rooms. Note that none are as big or challenging as in the main 2 games or Zero Escape trilogy. The main focus is getting to see a lot of the cast from the 2 games again, plus a few new ones. The plot is a lot weaker than the main 2 games in addition to being shorter, but it does expand on them. There's a lot of bonus side stories to unlock after you're done with the story that fun to go through, and there's a handful of joke endings to seek out. A few puzzles suck, and you'll also need to write things down for some. There is no in-game notepad. The game heavily recycles assets from the 2 main games, so it can feel a bit cheap. The English localisation throws in a bit of unnecessary net slang, but it's minor. It feels like a low budget attempt to test the waters and see if enough people are interested in more Somnium Files or Zero Escape. I think it has just enough good points to warrant a single playthrough.

I was so happy when I saw a new game for AI and still had the same characters from the previous game. However, the game felt like filler, and the timeline was confusing. The game starts with a sequence from the ending, then you'll play through flashbacks of how they ended up in that place. You play as Kaname, who witnessed Iris's abduction from.. UFO? Then he'll be able to contact her and help her through a series of puzzles to escape from room to room. They also introduced a new character on whom the game is heavily based on them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612152571 The main characters, along with the side characters, except for Iris, looked the same; she just changed her outfit, but everything else stayed the same. It felt more like fan service. The puzzles, however, were excellent and engaging. You'll have to solve each puzzle and find an alternative way to escape by opening your third eye. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612152417 The artwork and voice-overs are the same as the previous games, and the animations are good too. The game length is good, but I can't find myself replaying it for the missing achievements. This game should have served as bonus content, not a standalone. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612152454 Pros: +Interesting story with multiple twists. +Excellent writing. +Fully voiced (Choice between Japanese and English voice acting) +Interesting characters +Good soundtracks. +Chellenging puzzles. +Good game length. +Steam achievements. Cons: -The timeline is strange and doesn't fit before or after the previous games. -No manual save. I played the game in Japanese, and it was good. The twists were unexpected, but there is only one ending. If you are a fan of the game and the characters, you will enjoy it. I do recommend this, but only if you've REALLY enjoyed the two prior games and while its on sale. Its a clear love letters for the fans of the series and the stories told are fantastic. But the base price is a BIT much for what is essentially a single route with no branching paths, even if you get a LOT of extras for completing the game and the extra ending. I wouldn't recommend it by itself and for the current price though.

More AI: Sonmaium Files, more Kaname Date, more everyone. It's pretty much just a fan service game for fans of the main games, but it's a good one in that regard. I really like the new characters too and hope to see more of them in future games.
