May 2025
I have played the game in early access, as well as playtested the hot and cold update and the 1.0 version. In the 1.0 version, I reached the end of the storyline and unlocked everything. I really love this game! It features automation with factories, transport by sparks, trains and logic elements. There's also exploration, some fighting (using the spark creatures) and, in the last part, a tower defense mechanic, where you need to make sure to send in enough fighting sparks of different kinds to keep the spark-throwing cannons fed. For whom? I'm a beginner when it comes to automation game and had a lot of fun, though I was glad to have some help from the very nice discord community. The nice thing is that it's possible to leave out some of the more complex aspects, like logic, if you feel overwhelmed by it. But more advanced players can use it to create very complex, optimized set ups. The game starts slowly, and before you know it you've built a whole network of factories and are transporting materials all over the place. So it pays to make sure to design a clean train system early, otherwise you'll regret it! There's a big jump in complexity once you unlock botany (midgame), where you suddenly have a bunch of different ways of crafting many of the products and circular production lines. It intimidated me at first, but thankfully I tried around and ended up enjoying it very much! And once you've got the tower defense set up, there's a very fun final challenge... but I won't spoil that! Suffice it to say that you will need (almost) everything you learned throughout the game. + very cute graphics + some interesting challenges in the late game + mod support + released game includes possibility of setting difficulty for quests and fights separately + misophonia mode + helpful discord community + developers really active on discord in responding to bug reports and feedback (at least during the early access phase, don't know how it will go later) - jumps in complexity can feel overwhelming - documentation of some features in game not always very clear, but there should be a discord soon

This game feels like Picmin and factorio had a cute little wood shaped kid and gave it alot of personality

Hey, you're a person of taste and discernment. I can just tell. And you must have liked Pikmin, if you played it. And this game is basically Pikmin falling into a vat of Satisfactory. And that, my friend of good taste, is a fine thing. You don't know what Pikmin is? You're still cool with me, let me explain. Pikmin is this game where you control an army of these little guys. They follow you around, and you get things done by throwing your little fellas at whatever-it-is. Need that big heavy thing moved? Need that monster slapped around? Your Pikmin are glad to do it, and they do it with cute little high-pitched yeeps. They make terrifically cute noises and make my wife's toes curl. She can't get enough of it. This game is no different. Your little dudes, called Sparks here, will clear out rocks and twigs, pick up loose items on the ground, and of course they'll slap up monsters for you. The key difference is if you want more Sparks (because like Pikmin, they can get killed) you have to manufacture them yourself, Satisfactory style. You will create buildings, you'll set up little mines or lumber yards, or just harvest stuff over the game's map. You'll put them into factory lines, but instead of conveyor belts, you have more of your little minions running along roads you've laid down, hauling things to and fro. You do need to manage traffic because the little guys aren't very bright and will get gridlocked if you have too many on a road. The enemies are sort of cute in a weird way. Things like "spunnies", which are spider and rabbit hybrids (not sure how that works), "beelephants", which are bee... elephants. Some kind of squid/pelican hybrid whose name I forgot... a squilican? A frog-owl hybrid called a frowl. You get the idea, I hope. They have attacks with patterns, and intelligently ordering attacks and retreats are how you can best them without taking too many casualties in your Sparks army. So there's a lot of Pikmin, with cute li'l dudes, and there's a lot of Satisfactory, where you're exploring a somewhat hostile world, building up factories to grab new resources, and using them to manufacture items to further help unlock more tech. AND it's coop, by the way. There's quite a lot of things to do in the game, so being able to divide-and-conquer really helps reduce the workload. Your map and quests are shared, so if one person explores the other gets the expanded map too. It's great. My wife and I have a bit of a sprawling complex going, which will only get sprawlier over time. To be fair, we've been playing this off-camera as our own private entertainment, though I could be convinced to stream it in the fullness of time. I'm surely streaming something though. I put it down here because I like people who like to read my rambles. You're my kind of person. https://www.twitch.tv/fdejeuner. Check out my schedule, I adhere to it quite firly. And, uhh, thumbs up to this game. I love it, macho as I am.

It's Pikmin meets Factorio. If you like both of those things you'll like this. That being said, there are some issues due to the game being in early access. There really isn't much of a sense of urgency in gameplay or variety in combat. But it's got great foundations, and hopefully they'll be expanded upon in the future.

Came for the automation, stayed for the Sparks. I've been having a problem where I'm bored with all of my games and this one finally broke the curse. I mostly play automation games, so I looked up "automation" on steam and came across this gem. I watched a quick YouTube lets play and thought, "screw it. I'll try it out." It hooked me immediately. I think I bought it like 3 days ago and I already have 13 hours. I'll run around for hours just throwing Sparks at stuff. If this entire game was just "hang out with cute little wood pets," I'd still play it this much
