This must have been a hunk of sh!t even when it came out 15 years ago. * Only about 3 hours long. * No variety of enemies (You either kill troops wearing grey or camo) * No variety of weapons (All basic German WW2 firearms) * Camera stutters when you move, and the movement around objects sucks too. The only reason I gave it a thumbs up is because I got it for $1.
4/10, this game is kinda boring and janky, but it has it's moments. I wish steam had mixed reviews... The story is uninteresting, the voice acting is lacking and the gameplay is very unpolished. This game has a lot of dull corridors and lame enemies. You have 2 variants of enemies, the MP40 one and the Kar one, THAT'S IT (they sometimes throw grenades at you to spice up the combat). Also, it has small glitches everywhere, from ragdolls not working, to clipping of the map while climbing a ladder. The way the character moves is slow and strange and sometimes I got stuck in place while the reload animation was happening, which got me killed. The guns are... something... I guess..., you have a knife that's useless, cause stealth doesn't work, a Luger, that has no bullets, a Sten, that also has no bullets, a Panzerfaust, that operates like a grenade launcher(I don't know why), the aforementioned MP40, that does little damage, has a recoil like it's CSGO and is useless on medium and long ranges (sometimes on close range aswell), a Kar98, with crooked iron sights and a tiny scope during ONE MISSION and at last, the all mighty STG44, that's pin point accurate, good at all ranges and does a considerable amount of damage. This game has some positive points tho. The graphics, for example, are not the best, but look okay. I really enjoy the 2000's gray and "mature" games. The devs put some neat setpieces and animations to the dull enemies, that were obviously from F.E.A.R., I kinda like it, cause they're well made. Also, strangely, this game runs out of the box on Windows 11, compared to F.E.A.R. itself, that requires some patches. Fortunately, it's really short, around 3 hours to beat. If you're willing to try it, it's dirt cheap.
Operation Thunderstorm is another older WW2 game that I actually enjoyed more than I expected. The game is old and you can obviously see that from the graphics and animations, but honestly I don't really mind these things. It runs really smooth and for me the gameplay was simple but fun. The story takes place in 1942 and you play as an MI6 secret agent sent into enemy territory. Your main targets are some of the most important people of the Third Reich like Goebbels, Himmler and Göring. You fight through places like a French town, a castle in Bavaria and even a secret facility in Poland. The gunplay is nothing crazy but I actually liked it. Just a classic old school FPS where you grab a weapon and start shooting enemies. The missions were nice and I liked the different locations, especially because it didn't feel like I was looking at the same map for the whole game. Of course the AI can be a little stupid sometimes and the game is definitely showing its age, but for me that is part of the experience with these older games Overall I had fun with Operation Thunderstorm. It's simple, short and doesn't try to be anything super complicated. If you like old WW2 shooters like me, it's definitely worth giving it a try.
It's a short and sweet single player WW2 game similar to Medal of Honor, but it runs on the same engine as F.E.A.R. so the gameplay feels very close to F.E.A.R. The playtime I have on it is literally how long it took me to beat the game, so when I say it's short, it's short. I recommend it on a sale, because it's a cool novelty to play F.E.A.R. but WW2, and it's just a neat part of gaming history.
