If you are a fan of the classic RPG horror style but are wanting more modern achievement-hunting-goals that double as extra-lore?? You found your game! Pros: Similar to The Witch's House and Mad Father New Game + Achievement hunter Makes RPG Maker chases FUN. Serious themes but presented in a digestible manner. Cons: Hard to think of one. Mostly Psychological Horror but good scares at the right moments. Highly suggest playing in a dark room!

It just dawned on me that, although I’ve spent many hours and quite a few sleepless nights on this game, I never actually wrote a review about it. Keep in mind that it’s been... wow, I think almost 2 years since I last played it properly, so this review might not be entirely up to date and will mostly rely on my memories. When I was in junior high, I had a friend who loved horror RPGs. I remember us sitting in her room in the early 2010s, glued to her computer screen. I found it fascinating, but I never quite dared to dip my own feet into that world. Well, not yet, at least. Then around November of 2023, for no particular reason, I bought this game while it was on sale. I didn’t think much of it aside from it being a way to pass the time. But in a surprising turn of events, this was the game that actually got me into gaming in general. Pocket Mirror, as another user here pointed out, is a piece of art in its own way. It’s evident that a lot of time, effort, and love were poured into it. The art, the speech bubbles, the outfits, and the music are beautifully and meticulously crafted, and everything comes together beautifully. I loved the chase sequences; they kept me on my toes and gave me that adrenaline rush, so I really enjoyed them! The puzzles were difficult enough to keep me interested but not too hard so as to send me to the walkthrough right away. That said, the game certainly isn’t perfect, and there were a few aspects I didn’t enjoy as much. For one, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the endings, or rather the explanation for why our main character ended up in that mysterious world to begin with. I can go into more detail about what I mean, but I don’t want to spoil anything for others, so I’ll just leave it at that. Still, it doesn’t take away from how much I love this game or how dearly I hold it in my heart. All in all, I consider Pocket Mirror close to a masterpiece, and I still find myself listening to the soundtrack! Especially ''Vienna Blood" and ''Girl's Midnight Secret''! As mentioned above, this was the game that started it all, so I just want to end this review with a big thank you to every person who had a part in making this creation a reality. It opened a door to a world I had always been hesitant to enter, a wonderfully captivating, if slightly horrifying, wonderland. I'm glad this was my first proper game and I will always think fondly of it.

It feels like a psychological fairy tale where I'm left to gather scraps of meaning on my own. Even after the puzzles fade, the quiet traces of clues and symbols tucked into every corner linger with me—not with fear, but with a soft, stubborn melancholy.

While I can confidently say that Little Goody Two Shoes is the better game out of this duo, I still must say I recommend playing Pocket Mirror. Unlike other people, I'm going to recommend you play LGTS first before Pocket Mirror. Yes, I am aware Pocket Mirror came first, but Pocket Mirror makes 0 sense and also spoils literally all of LGTS. Well, most of it. The important parts, anyway. Pocket Mirror can be played and be just as confusing whilst having already played LGTS. In fact I would say it enhanced my experience since I wasn't attempting to figure out two big mysteries at once. If you've already played LGTS and you're wondering if you should play Pocket Mirror, you should. It's simpler but still a lot of fun and ties up every loose end from LGTS. I'd say my biggest complaint with this game is the puzzles. Most feel very unfair or downright unsolvable. Most of the game is spent running into doors to find out which one actually opens. If you're in it for the narrative just pull up a walkthrough. If you're in it for the puzzles, go play a different game. They aren't bad just... not great. TLDR: Good narrative, though you might get confused (rightfully so) and have to look up some stuff to fully enjoy, not great puzzles, great atmosphere and soundtrack as always, and some great horror.
