A good game with alot of problems, that make it less enjoyable. When you start the game you see its main positive sides: +++ Art style +++ World design and concept +++ Enemy design. There are alot of original enemy designs with interesting to read lore descriptions. ++ Sound effects and music. Nothing really special. But suit the game. + Kinder original combat system. That has its problems. I will be more specific later. Unfortunately there are alot of game aspects that make "not bad" out of "great": --- Level design. It's simply awful. All the time you go through differently coloured intestines. Yes, the art design of environment is good. But gameplay-wise it's bad. You can't understand where to go, where you were. As every turn looks almost the same. And 1 gut enters another, then you make extra hole. And now the room consists of dozens of corridors that lead to 1 place... And you have to spend alot of time going through them to reach anything meaningful. --- Map. Adding to level design - the map could be more clear. There are closed entrences that are not depicted on the map. Most narrow passages aren't on the map too. The player icon is too big and closes the details you need to see on the map. The "rooms" separated by loading screen aren't separated on the map. And it is hard to undestand where the "end of the room". Especially when you try to get the collectables. And loading screens don't mark the zone borders (why?). --- Map marks. It's the most inconveniant pin system I have ever seen. To put the mark on the map you should push the button to enter marking menu. To delete the mark you should push extra button (not just click on it). To choose the mark icon use one more different button (not just left\right). --- Lack of good upgrades. We have a bunch of upgrades to memory slots. But there are none that would really matter. Some are needed for clearing the map (why aren't they passive?). Some are needed to move faster and more efficient (what for? to traverse guts?). But power upgrades do almost nothing. --- Lacking combat system. You have normal attack and charged attack. For the charged attack to be more poerful mark the enemies with dash (that mostly pointless at boss fights). Most of the time you will just dodge and charge the attack. Nothing else. In the end I had some good time in it. But it wasn't that great as I expected. Do I recommend it? Only with big discount and if you are looking for original project, ready to condone shortcomings.

Played on OG 512 steam deck without issues and the controller worked great! Stop reading this review and buy this game! Don’t let the idea of an underwater “ Wetdroidvania” game dissuade you, the water is fine just dive in and you will be glad you did! Beautiful graphics, amazing boss fights, rewarding exploration, exciting ability upgrades, secrets galore, a heartfelt story, I could go on and on and but the longer I do the longer it will be before you start installing this gem and playing it. Wonderful metroidvania that is similar to many yet extremely unique. Must buy for fans of the genre! The story is a bit weird and the controls are not the best, but it was an awesome journey, the graphics looks so so good and the music is also good, great game that is a hidden gem.

Pronty is an excellent underwater Metroidvania well worth your time and money if you enjoy these sorts of games. What sets it apart from other MVs? [*] It's underwater. Okay that's obvious from the store page, but this matters because there's no traditional platforming in Pronty. You can swim freely in any direction without fear of gravity pulling you into spikes or bottomless pits. The controls are tight and responsive throughout. [*] Excellent boss fights. I found each boss to be well designed both visually and mechanically. They feel fair and are fun to battle. [*] Linear, but not heavy-handed. The game is pretty good about giving you some direction on where to go next, but it never gets in the way of you taking the time to explore. While I enjoy big MVs like Hollow Knight, sometimes it is nice to have a little direction as well. [*] Accessibility. The game has difficulty sliders (yes sliders, not options) for damage, stamina consumption and heat (a cost associated with some of your attacks that can temporarily disable them if you build up too much of it). You can choose a preset difficulty or use the sliders to 'dial it in' so it feels just right to the level of challenge you're looking for. I wish more single-player games did this. It's also adjustable on the fly, so if you hit a wall you can turn it down or if you're finding the journey too easy you can crank it up. Pros: [*] Great artwork [*] Nice ambient soundtrack. I can't remember any specific melodies from the sound track, but I the ambient water sounds and music were the perfect accompaniment to my underwater explorations. [*] Good use of a charm system. They're called memory boards here, but work just like Hollow Knight charms. I found myself swapping them in and out frequently to try new builds and combos. It's nothing new, but it's perfectly implemented here and a lot of fun to tinker with. [*] The aforementioned accessibility and boss fights are also highlights. Neutral: [*] It's relatively short for an MV. I did most of the side content and it only took me around 15 hours to finish. I think the length was fine as some games are bloated with features and overstay their welcome. None of Pronty's mechanics or biomes overstay their welcome, but the length is worth mentioning if that's important to you. [*] Story is back end heavy. There are 13 comic book style cut scenes that tell the game's story, but most of these will occur in the last couple of hours with only 1 or 2 prior to that. I liked the story, but there's nothing earth shattering here. It's functional and it works. [*] The English translation is mostly okay, though there were times the sparse voice acting did not match the written text. Cons: [*] Weird name for a game. I don't know if it's a translation issue, but the name Pronty just sound a bit off in English to me. It actually kept me from buying the game for a while (yes I know that's a fairly shallow reason and I'm not proud of it, but i'm being honest.) The game deserves a catchier name. [*] There are a lot of entries in the in-game codex you unlock by playing. These are fine, but the game does a poor job of showing you what's new. While it does mark new entries in red, it only shows like 10 at a time and you're forced to scroll the list from left to right one entry at a time. If a new entry isn't in those first ten, the act of scrolling to the next one will remove the 'new' marker before you can see it making a giant pain to find the new entries. TLDR: I highly recommend the game for any metroidvania fan, with the caveat that if you love these games for platforming challenges you won't find any of that here.
