Man what a gem! Amazing game from start to finish. Challenging combat & chill. The combat is fantastic - love the focus mechanic. Great selection of talismans and skills to mix things up as well. The bosses are all well designed and fair. There were only 2 where I felt were a bit tedious and not necessarily difficult. But all around great boss fights. You can also replay the bosses to try and get a better score which is really neat. The other great thing is anytime you felt the fight was just not going well, you can easily restart the fight. I love this! It skips you having to die, wait for an animation death, and then select retry. This simple feature allowed to really learn boss fights and nail their moves. Pixel art is great. Very bloody! Fits well with this style of gameplay too. A surprisingly good story too. For a boss rush type of game, the story just brought everything up a notch. Easy to follow and understand. If you love and crave a challenge, this game is a must buy. I ended up 100% this game because it's that good.
Incredible game. I would recommend sticking with it, even if you feel like you can't make it past a certain boss. To me this felt like Celeste in a sense - climbing the mountain despite how impossible it feels, and every death is just a little more experience and knowledge. The iteration time between death and getting back into the fight is incredibly short, making death much less frustrating than some "git-gud" games. It isn't without flaws, there are some attacks that felt like you could simultaneously perfect dodge and get hit by if you do a nearly frame perfect dodge - it would play the perfect dodge signals but you'd also get hit. Some enemies have a "hit-wake" where they hit the immediate area around them when lunging forward which can be irritating.
This game was so great, stylish, clean, made me remember challenging games like Celeste where you're constantly pushed against what you think are your limits towards going beyond it every single time, challenges you into beating every single boss hitless in the most natural way possible that fits the story in an incredible way. I really hope my time with it wasn't just an illusion.
One of the best games I've played in a long time. Anyone that reviews it poorly solely for being short should have their opinions discarded, a short game is much better than something bloated with useless and boring garbage. There is not a single moment of this game where I wasn't having fun.
