I've undoubtedly had a very hard time playing through this game and felt mad and frustrated during nearly my whole playthrough. Despite all of that, I still find this game great and very well made. The cryptic and mysterious story, leaving you room for wonder, is exactly what makes it so enticing, pushing you further to explore the beautifully drawn environment and its characters, even through the pain. As difficult as the game was, I never found it to be unbalanced, unfair, or just blatantly bad. Just really hard. Not enough to discourage me from playing it, but very much enough to make me feel pitiful during most fights in my very first playthrough. I really like all the ideas put into the gameplay mechanics, all the different bosses with their own fight styles and the different upgrades and builds you can try. However, I found the game being actually "fun" near the very end and especially during new-game+ once I'd gathered enough upgrades to make the upcoming fights bearable. Not easy, mind you, but bearable (making each bossfight last approximately half an hour instead of two). Nevertheless, even after replaying the game multiple times with more upgrades, it still posed a challenge, which is what made it entertaining. I admit, I replayed it far more times than I would've liked or had to, but with each run I grew to respect the game more and truly see its beauty. However, the different ending scenes (which literally are just one PNG and a couple words changing a bit) aren't worth all the trouble. This game definitely is an experience to have, whether it's for the challenge, possibilities, or the great artstyle and narrative, there's a reason to find playing it, and even enjoy it. I wouldn't say it's one of my favourites, but I did enjoy it in a very bittersweet way.

If you would like dark soul but do not like the farming, exploring or complicate character building, this could be perfect game form you. I have play many soul game in my gamer life. They are very fun and satisfy to play. However, as I move to adulthood of company worker, I do not have much time to investing in exploration (remember all the map and planning the route to sun to boss room), farming (soul for level and weapon), or thinking about character build that much. It make me rarely touch any new soul-like game lately. Do not get me wrong, I love explore the world in soul game and creative about how to pass the encounter. But those kind of thing require such an effort which I do not have. Andddd Boss fight is the most exciting for me to do in soul game. This game have just the perfect amount of everything for me. All the gameplay is boss-rush, so no farming or complicate exploring (Ahem walk in circle and do not know where to go). The character build is very simple yet fun to do. You have weapon, skill, fighting style and boss upgrade. Combine all the thing = building character. If you not like your build you could shuffle up and change the build anytime. The story also classic dark fantasy story, very minimal reading material which lead to no FOMO from missing any story thing (as it really hard to miss) So, I recommend this game for all my heart for all soul-like fellow who to old and do not have time for long gameplay but still ignited with fire for soul-like game and love boss fight.

I like the fact it is just a boss rush and you dont have to find hoards. Also there is no way to farm power. You either beat it or you don't. Its a pretty high skill game though.

Eldest souls is an amazing game, one I’ve bought on multiple platforms. I fully recommend, it is a blast playing. I feel like most of the negative reviews it gets are from people having skill issues.
