I think the game is foundationally great. There is a fun loop, a fun gimmick and the classes keep it easy to grasp and pick up on but you start scraping the bottom of the barrel, relatively quickly. I feel like what the dev needs to do is take a risk. Risk the fact that something is broken or unbalanced, let players find that and go nuts. Lean into the bonkers of the game. Change the size and shapes of the boards, add different sided dice. A D20, D12, D10, D8 and D4 would make for some really crazy combos. I just think this game is right there on the verge of being great, they just need to be willing to try something that isn't formulaic. They nailed that with the gimmick but now lean in. Still, worth the money imo.

An infinite run mode would be great, a lot of times you get really strong just at the end on the last shop, buying all of the best items, and once you finish it feels like you completly destroyed the boss and need a bigger threat. A multiplayer would also be nice, maybe not multiplayer but a run where you chose a team of 2-3 heroes and fight even stronger enemies. The synergies with the heroes would make it really fun.

If I could give a neutral review, I would. Mechanically it's very similar to Peglin (which is Peggle as a Roguelike) but with its own unique twists; don't expect a dice game in the sense that dice rolls matter. But the problem is not its inherent gameplay, which is fun, but that also like Peglin it has the same issue of the game lacking enough content to be great. But tbh it's even worse due to how it treats runs and makes what I believe a fundamental mistake on the roguelike style they were going for. But I'll still give a positive for the general vibe and the sale price, but I just think it needed more. Pros and cons below: PROS: 1) Unique spin on the launch item at other items to rack up points puzzle game 2) Good use of roguelike structure for meta progression. You don't unlock permanent buffs but you do unlock more items you can find in a run or more characters you can use. And it's plentiful with the rewards during during runs and has variety. 3) Increasing combos, numbers, and unlocks make dopamine drip and brain happy. 4) Fun animations, style, and music. 5) Good tutorial and controller integration. CONS: 1) FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please add a faster game speed than just 2.0x. it's cute at first but eventually you will get sick of seeing every dice you engage play an associated animation, especially when it's just basic attacks. I wonder if that was intentional to cover the fact the levels cut so short, as I'll explain next. 2) Stops you when you beat a boss instead of a longer gameplay loop. You don't continue to a new biome once you beat one, it just stops you after you beat a level boss and then you have to start again to go after the next boss. For the lack of a better term it's basically roguelike blue balls. And makes starting again seem less enticing because you were forced to stop right when your build was starting to really come together. That style doesn't work here because you play short burst battles and go across a map like StS or Inscryption, so your flow is just stopped in its tracks and you don't get a lot of content before you have to restart a run. Less Ball x Pit (each level being one long unbroken fight) and more what if StS ended a run after the first area boss, or Balatro ended a run after just one big blind. Because of just how abrupt and anti climactic it is, I genuinely thought I accidentally downloaded the demo instead of the full game when this happened and I was being blocked from the full content. 3) Too easy. I literally beat the first level boss on my first run and that's while taking the fastest route to the boss. Which also made the abrupt end surprise me because I thought I finally got a flow in my build and enemies started actually becoming dangerous. BUT, I don't want it to get arbitrarily harder by increasing enemy stats or decreasing positive RNG for you (Peglin did that for the final boss to pad the game and it's a problem). They could just do what most other games do and increase the length of a run with tougher enemies and bosses past the first area. It's a weird self imposed problem that has an obvious solution; change it to a continuous progression where you can keep going until you fail. This weird level based system while being a Roguelike doesn't work with this little content per run.

sadly its very short. only 1 "world" with like 15 stages. you just start to get strong and the run is already over. definitly needs a multi-world-mode or even endless. the gameplay itself is super fun and there are a lot of classes with a clear unique identity to play around with (unique as in unique class mechanic)

The gameplay loop is super addictive and the dice merge mechanic is really engaging unique. However, I feel as if the runs are just a tad bit too short; It ends right as you just start to get a bit powerful. A mode where you can go through all 3 levels in the same run maintaining your dice/relics would make this S-tier instead of high B / low A. Let me have just a ♥♥♥♥ ton of dice and cause overpowered bomb die fueled chaos hahahaha. Still a great game though
