The game was pretty cool - if we admit that blood, cut-up organs and murders in family are cool. I liked following the creepy story of these people. It was weird, made feel uncomfortable af, but It was sort of.. fascinating. It's a shady point and click, with shady riddles. The music is really nice. It's a bit too long tho, by the end I just wanted it to be over. I recommend this lovely journey.

To be born again is easy. All one needs is alchemy, dark magic and - most importantly - several generations of descendants to sacrifice. Willingly, or otherwise. Rusty Lake: Roots is yet another excellent point & click puzzle game set in the grim Rusty Lake universe. I'm currently playing through the majority of the Rusty Lake games in the recommend order and so far this is probably my favourite of the bunch. It's not the most challenging one, but definitely the most gripping.

“Roots” is one of the games in the Rusty Lake series, a 2D point&click adventure expanding on the legend about the mysterious lake. This particular game follows the history of the Vanderboom family that is fatefully intertwined with the lake, and the pursuit for the elixir of life that is supposed to grant immortality to its imbiber. Game is split into smaller episodes arranged in a “family tree”, which focus on individual members of the family and important milestones, and your task will be to solve puzzles in each episode to push the story forward. Technically the game looks a lot like its “Rusty Lake Hotel” predecessor, with simple colored drawings and subtle, yet suggestive music. It’s also available at a good price and it’s an integral part of Rusty Lake franchise, so if you have played and liked any of the others, be sure to get this game too.

Great addition to the Rusty Lake series! Same few complaints as with a few of them; the measurements on some of the puzzles don't add up, like the insect puzzle I ended up having to resort to a guide because I wasn't getting the dig marker lined up at all. I also wish there weren't so many instances of having to open up paint to paste a screen capture when it would be much better to have the patterns in a little log book or something you could quickly pull up when you're solving. All in all though, it's a great game.

One of the best games from the Rusty Lake series. As always, wonderful graphics and a grim but subtle storytelling that unveil as you progress through some surreal puzzles, drawing you in more as you proceed through the game. Some puzzles are really confusing, perhaps, especially for the end game content, but it is indeed a great game.
