I have to admit - I bought this because the screen show made it look like a turn based combat in the Legends of the Five Rings world, which I was excited about - as I love me some turn based games, and I have fond memories playing in a L5R campaign years ago. I made a mistake. The game is NOT a turn based combat game. It's more a tactical auto-battler. I was a little salty at first, but intrigued enough to keep playing. I ended up getting hooked. One thing I'd recommend - get political influence right away. I skipped my first chance to get it, and then didn't see it again for multiple runs. You need it to unlock some key parts in the base. Somethings took me some trial and error, as the tutorial gives you just enough to start and then waves good bye. Overall, glad I picked it up.

Fun auto battler with some annoying quirks. PROS: -I really enjoyed building combo decks -There are a bunch of neat bonuses/trees when leveling up your buffs -Story kept me somewhat entertained CONS: -Short Campaign (took me around 18 hours to beat the game, and I was taking my time) -Leveling up your troops feels unsatisfying. They need to get more ability points from leveling -I HATED how repetitive the boss battles are. Why do they escape 3 billion times.. Why can't I kill them and fight a new boss. Do you know how INCREDIBLY unsatisfying that is?!! Besides that I'd say, buy it on sale and its worth playing. DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE

Thanks for adding a fps cap setting, this is what got me to finish the story. Devs seem to listen and care about the game, so I will give it a thumbs up. As for the game itself. The strategy is there, there is fairly good depth. Item and skill systems are great. However, I do think the meta-progression is way too powerful and trivialises the entire game after a while. I also wish there was a downside to having as many units as possible, it becomes tedious to place out 10units+2banners+2decoys every minute or so, but also it would make the strategy more interesting if it was more viable to have a smaller army too. There is also a lot of jank keeping me from enjoying it fully. I'd like way better overview of information and being able to just mouseover characters to see what traits, items, skills they have. Both ingame and when selecting the gang to go out into the Shadowlands. 6/10 Something else that doesn't really reflect the quality of the game itself, but is still a bit annoying. Many achievements still don't work. If you care about that, you should probably wait until there is a fix. I'd say there are around 10 that I've completed in-game but have not registered on steam.

The game isn't great, but it isn't bad. It's just agressively mediocre. The high points are the amazing voice acting and dialogues (the story itself is pretty basic, but alright). This being the first digital game in the amazing L5R setting is also a plus. Otherwise the game is concentrated jank; great ideas with extremely subpar delivery; questionable UE5 choice for the engine and scuffed style and optimisation. I had an OK time and following the characters and story was fun, but there's no desire to keep playing this for the rogue-like aspects.

TL;DR I finished the game. I loved the concept and the execution was 'okay'. Game gets easy after a few chapters, you'll need to active all of the additional difficulty mods as soon as they are available. Story was good, Game is a tiny bit buggy, didn't ruin it for me though. I only unlocked all the cards and saw a lot of the synergies right at the end of the campaign/story...90% of my play time the only synergy I invested in was "heal a tanky taunter", this made reruns feel repetitive and even a bit boring. You're pigeonholed into this strat as well because your choice of hero is either half of that synergy (either a healer or a taunter). They should make more builds available/viable earlier in the game. The balance is a bit off, as it gets very easy towards the end...I don't mind this typically as a way to wrap up my play experience, but given I had only just unlocked/discovered a bunch of cool synergies to explore at the end of the campaign, it would be better if the runs were still an actual challenge... I did one run after finishing the story, all difficulty mods, and a 'no healing' stipulation. Stomped it, and then closed the game for the last time. Also they could have done a lot more with the 'interactive autobattler concept' As is, there is only a couple of skills in the whole game that can give commands to your guys, and only a couple of 'eternal' items that can be activated mid fight for some effect.... Cool Concept, 'okay' execution.
