An excellent game with an open map with various European ambiences on a fictional island. I love that it features Mycroft Holmes and much of Sherlock's family history. It is vague enough in places to have replay value and it has multiple endings. It does have some frustrating plot holes in a few places and some stability issues on lower end PCs. I just wish it had been a coop experience too.

I loved this game very much, and spent 126 hours playing it to prove. Mysteries were just beautiful, and the cases had the perfect difficulty level for me. Great game, I give it 9/10

I've been playing through all of Frogware's Sherlock games in order of their release, and while the first three have already changed slightly from game to game, Chapter One felt completely new at first. Initially, I wasn't happy about how much younger they made the protagonists, how they changed Jon's role and how different Sherlock's character was. But over the course of the game, I grew fond of the characters, and their dialogue - Jon's snarky comments, their reminiscence of their childhood on the island - felt natural and fitting for old childhood friends. After playing through the emotional and touching finale and finishing the game, I even caught myself 'missing' these two and their story. The amazing synchronisation also plays a part in this. I wanted to put special emphasis on how well Sherlock and Jon are written and how much I loved their interaction with each other, but the other things I like (and dislike) about the game, I will summarise much shorter: ++ Story/Quests: The main storyline is engaging and interesting, though a bit predictable. The other main quests and cases were usually fun as well, although I just clicked through the dialogue on some occasions as it was a bit lengthy. Still, I liked the stories the game was telling. ++ The island: I loved the small-ish open world and how alive it felt. You have lots of people running around, every district had its own characteristic and you would sometimes stumble across a side case or a memory to unlock. + The atmosphere: The background music is seriously underrated, it adds so much to the atmosphere. The day/night cycle was not used at all, unfortunately, but it added a sense of authenticity. + Length and difficulty: It took me almost 24h to finish the game plus getting all the trophies. The game itself isn't difficult, although I did use a guide at a few points. Some reviews criticize that you're running around without knowing where to go - I absolutely canNOT confirm this, the game just requires you to read or use your brain a slight bit. I actually appreciated it that there were no quest markers at all in the game. + I loved the little easter eggs which referenced the books/TV series like some quotes and the street names. +- Some people complain that you don't know if your decisions/deductions are right or wrong. This is the main point of the game and the base question of what Sherlock and Verner are often discussing: According to Sherlock, there is an absolute, undeniable truth, while Verner claims that truth is subjective and what one wants it to be. So in a way, the game not telling you if you convicted the right person, perfectly fits its theme. +- The costume mechanic (like the people around you reacting differently depending on your outfit) is interesting but I think they could have used it a bit more. - A few mechanisms don't work particularly well, e.g. presenting evidence to witnesses to get their comment on it. Sometimes, I would just do trial-and-error until the dialogue was finished. - The combat: The combat scenes do make sense at certain points, but combat itself just isn't good or fun. At least it's not particularly difficult, once you get the hang of it. - Some of the dialogue is just very pretentious and pseudo-philosophical. Most of Sherlock's discussions with Verner felt tedious and lengthy. - I had some technical issues at the beginning when trying to start the game, but was able to resolve this (playing in window mode prevented the game from crashing). The graphical settings also needed some finetuning, but after that, the game looked nice All in all, I had a great time with the game and I would absolutely recommend it to everyone who likes a relaxed mystery/adventure game.

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is an ambitious take on the iconic detective’s early days, set in a beautifully designed, semi-open world. The fictional Mediterranean island of Cordona is vibrant, mysterious, and packed with detail—but also overwhelming at times. While the open-world concept adds freedom and exploration to the experience, it can quickly become confusing, especially when the game gives little direction on where to go or what to do next. The investigation mechanics are intricate and often difficult to master. The game throws you into the deep end, expecting you to connect clues, change disguises, and piece together caseboards with minimal hand-holding. It’s a refreshing challenge for some, but can be frustrating for those who prefer more structured gameplay. Despite these hurdles, Chapter One is undeniably fun. Solving cases brings a strong sense of satisfaction, and the psychological twist of exploring Sherlock’s past adds depth. However, it demands time, patience, and energy. This isn’t a game you can casually pick up—it’s one you commit to, fully. If you’re into detailed detective work and enjoy a challenge, this game will pull you in. But be prepared to get lost—both in the world and in your own thoughts trying to crack the case.

If this is your first Sherlock Holmes game, then do not buy it. "Crimes and Punishments" or "Devil's Daughter" is better choice. And for other Sherlock Holmes games enjoyers this is a good pick with a discount. Game adds open world and combat. Both are questionable additions, that I didn't liked at first, but they grow on me. City is beautiful, each district in different and unique. Exploration only yields new sub cases. Apart from that there is literally nothing to do in it. Combat is strange, but enjoyable in its own way. It can be skipped and there is no mandatory combats. Cases are downgrade from other games. Despite the amount of cases, dev went from quality to quantity. Only the main cases have access to "Mind Palace", while sub cases have 1 conclusion. Main cases now have vague endings where you don't know if its the right choice. Its the my main problem with the game. Feels like dev's don't have the balls to say which choice is the correct one, so they blur the endings to make you feel like you made the correct choice and to not "offend" or "hurt" people who made the wrong choice Main story and Sherlock's companion Jon are both good and enjoyable.
