SOMA feels less like a game and more like an experience you go through and honestly, i wasn’t prepared for how much it would stick with me emotionally.. it felt like walking through someone else’s nightmare and slowly realizing it was becoming my own. The story feels personal, heavy and genuinely heartbreaking and the line between the character and myself blurred at times that made every revelation hit even harder.. There’s this constant feeling of isolation and uncertainty that never really lets up and i found myself thinking about its ideas long after i finished it, especially the questions it raises about what it means to be "you" I really loved that it doesn’t rely on constant action or loud moments.. instead it builds tension through atmosphere, story and silence. The game is patient and it asks for patience in return. It has a way of forcing you to slow down, to pause and to really notice the world around you, making you think in ways just a few games do.. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re open to a slower, more emotional experience, SOMA is something truly special and i’m really glad i played it 🖤

Great Experience I'd like to start with the negatives, of which there are few. Mostly spoiler free. The Negatives [*]Stealth [*]Settings [*]Puzzle Intuitiveness I have been playing games my entire life. I almost always play games on normal or occasionally hard difficulty. For the most part, I have had no problems. That said, now I work a lot more than I used to, and I don't have a lot of spare time to give to video games. The stealth in this game feels like it was designed to be a time-sink. I played the first 2 to 3 hours of the game on normal difficulty, and I quickly found that the enemies in this game were just plain annoying. You are often left in a room with little room to hide, while an enemy roams around, or in my case, simply hangs around in one spot wasting my time. There were many times I was in a good hiding place, and I just have to sit there helplessly as the enemy slowly lumbers to my hiding spot, sees me, and kills me. Very frustrating. This connects to my point about the games settings. You cannot change the difficulty of the game after you have started. I couldn't believe that was not an option for me. I tried to continue on with normal difficulty for a few more hours, but I was still getting frustrated with the amount of time spent crouching around a map, when I just wanted to explore the environment and learn more about the world. I then did some research and discovered I could turn on God Mode. After that, my problems with the game basically disappeared. In the past I would have felt some sort of guilt for cheating my way out of a problem, but it was worth it in this case. I wanted to spend my limited time doing something I actually enjoyed, rather than cursing at my screen and then having to go to bed and back to work. My last point is on the puzzles. For the most part, they are perfectly acceptable and fun to do, but occasionally the solution is a simple as taking a panel off the wall. Seems easy, but when you pass by 100 of these panels in the game, your brain doesn't think to try and click on one. Not a big deal, but a minor annoyance. Now, onto the good stuff. The Positives [*]Story [*]Voice Acting [*]Environment [*]Animation [*]Physics The story is just phenomenal! I became very interested in where the story was going after my first interaction with a certain talking robot. I never expected that interest to blossom into me sitting out on my balcony pondering the events of the game. I feel that SOMA had a very good twist on the genre, and it was executed very well. I felt genuinely happy, anxious, sad, etc. along with Simon. His frustrations felt like the very same kind I would feel if I was in his situation. The game also doesn't hold your hand. You are left to make up your own mind about the ethics and implications present throughout the game. This is only aided by the stellar voice acting for Simon, Catherine, and the entire Pathos II team. Extremely immersive. You could really feel every line dripping with melancholy, dread, optimism... Some of the best work I've seen. The environment itself is very cool. An underwater research facility is just perfect for this. Nowhere to run!! It reminded me of one of my other favorite games, Bioshock. Pathos II feels like a very scientific and research focused Rapture. The environment, like Rapture, ties in incredibly well with the context of the story. It is really very fascinating. My last two points don't need much explanation, but I still really wanted to give them a shoutout. The physics in the game are quite fun to interact with, and really help me feel immersed in the world. The animation was pretty great as well, especially for the enemies. Very haunting and unsettling. Conclusion I picked up SOMA during an October sale, and proceeded to be truly moved by the story and characters. Every revelation left me with deep questions about existence and life that I hadn't gotten from a video game in a long time. If you aren't a fan of stealth gameplay, just turn it off. Don't feel guilty.

Spawned in to the game for the first time and decided to put my entire apartment in my toilet. I clogged the toilet so hard that the game froze. 10/10 would take that apartment sized dump again.

I'd choose this absolute masterpiece over any triple A title from the last decade now. I love when my game is strictly storytelling and nothing more, nothing less. The SOMA team really, uh wehat do the kids say nowdays... cooked with this one.
