πŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈ Closest thing you can find to an actual "Walking Dead fantasy": You establish a camp, upgrade it, hoard resources, then move to a better one. It can be overrun, your people can get infected, die, leave, or fight each other. The only thing missing from that fantasy is fighting enemy human factions. 🧠 Really addicting gameplay loop, especially the looting and management aspect. Its fun, but not overly complicated. The main campaign is quite easy, so you probably wont see many bad things happening. But there is the sandbox DLC Breakdown, where each time you "extract" the game becomes harder and harder. Thats where the main fun and challenge are. 🩸 The only real problem that can frustrate people is the low zombie density, and because of that the game often needs to spawn zombies out of thin air and behind your back. The game can also be a bit clunky, but it never actually caused me frustration or broke anything. So if you have zombie game fatigue, this one is worth a try, its camp management spin can feel quite refreshing.

State of Decay is a bit of a weird one, as it seemingly has a bit of everything in it. *It has the sprinkling of a base builder. *Enough of a combat system to keep you interested. *A dab of resource managment. *The framework of a story/s. *Simple quest's. *3 seperate gamemodes that alter the overall game formula. *Sims-esque managment, where you can play as any individual and each has there own attributes you can level up. *Basic survival mechanics, such as stamina, health, needing food and medicine etc. But does it excel in any one area? Not at all. If I had to rate it on its individual components, it would be a rather mediocre game. However, it's the comboniation of all these aspects and mechanics that makes it unique to all other zombie games. 7 days to die has no community or friendly AI, Likewise with project Zomboid (though this is planned at somestage). L4D2, although a great game, has zero basebuilding and resource managment. Telltales The Walking Dead is a heavily story driven game with little other aspects. I could list more games, but I'm sure you get the point. It's almost as if its THE zombie survival game which mimics how a zombie apocalypse might play out, whilst remaining fun and a bit more arcadey then the other games mentioned.

I have a love-hate relationship with this game. It was made by a small indie team and was my first ever zombie game with colony building. For its time, no other zombie game could compare to it. It has tons of replay value, a huge map, a somewhat interesting "story" and a variety of buildings/weapons at your disposition. HOWEVER, this is a rough gem. Expect bugs EVERYWHERE. Legions of zombies and objects spawn out of thin air, especially on missions; this by itself isn't that frustrating in the main game, but in the Lifeline DLC may become unbearable, turning what was supposed to be a quick spike in difficulty into a perpetual tsunami of enemies and wrecking your entire progress. Your saves may also get corrupted. This game gets upset by alt-tabbing, and will change resolution every time you do it (I could fix it with Alt+Enter). Zombies clip through basically any objects, which makes some missions that require securing an area impossible to complete until reopening the application and starting the mission over again. Characters may glitch when entering cars, forcing you to (somehow) ram your vehicle into base in order to advance the story. So on and so forth. Overall, I feel like the good outweighs the bad, so I'll still recommend it.

Janky but fun as hell. Building a community while surviving the apocalypse scratches that zombie-sim itch perfectly.
