I love this game, it's probably the best zombie apocalypse "fantasy". But I am very divided in some aspects, there's definitely a lot to work on for State of Decay 3, even though this game is an upgrade almost in every way compared to the first game. What's good: - Combat is so fluid, you probably never saw such crisp combat system in a survival game. - FIVE maps the size of Trumbull Valley from the first game, which is not very big but now we have five of them and you can travel between. - Blood Plague: this is such an awesome addition, so much more tension now that you can die from the virus and will have to find cure. It also adds "Plague Hearts" that you have to destroy to stop the plague. I think it is both huge upgrade to the lore and gameplay. But also kinda weird that we have one virus that doesn't turn you into zombie immediately and one virus that does. - Characters have personal quests creating more reason to switch between your whole community. Lots of quests now have proper choices and sometimes unexpected stuff happens. Which is also being accounted for, you can still finish a quest even if someone dies or turns hostile, it doesn't become "failed" like in most games. - Cars behave much better and need to be maintained, they can also be modified. - Deeper base/outposts managment. - You can now clearly see infestation forming. Horde appears---> they infest a random house---> it evolves and spreads on the nearby houses---> hordes start attacking your base. - We all love to praise No Man's Sky but this game also had 38 updates since release. - More CLEO lore. What's bad: - Graphics, they are not that bad and in some way an upgrade but this is UE4 we are talking about, with forced TAA your game is blurry at all times and has lots of visual bugs. Trust me, it doesn't look like that on store page. Highly recommend tweaking the .ini files. - Combat, yeah I said that it is great but there is some bad too. It now behaves more like Arkham games so you can't really hit multiple zombies which funny considering it's a zombie game... with lots of zombies... and zombie hordes. Your character often misses the first attack when you try to predict zombie position and even if it visually connects it doesn't register because your character has to be "glued" to the enemy like in Arkham games. And this is especially bad because if you missed you can catch the plague. - "Shove move" now has to be unlocked, are you telling me regular person cannot shove? Lots of basic moves were removed to turn them into skill upgrades. On top of that a TON of combat upgrades from the first game are missing too. So basic moves got turned into upgrades and upgrades got removed. - Some people say there are more finishers now which is not really true, it's more but less. In the first game you could kill the zombie when it's kneeling or pressed against the wall plus from different directions. You were able to shove them into walls or make them fall from railings. Take them down by smashing their head against the environment. It's all been removed too. - "Heartland" mode a.k.a Story Mode is very disappointing, I was super engaged at the start and loved the characters I picked with all the side stories but then the game just abruptly ends, didn't even realise I am in the endgame. There is no proper ending and you can't continue the game, there is no aftermath. - Insane UI bloat, so much crap on your screen like you're playing a mobile game. Your base also has tons of floating markers. - More casual now. You can still sprint/dodge/climb with your stamina depleted. If it's not 4th or 5th difficulty then Blood Plague is not dangerous. Tons of guns to find, I see 0 reason to use crossbow when you can find rifle with supressor in the first 20 minutes. Skills upgrade so fast you don't even notice. - The most aggravating part is still present: zombies can spawn out of thin air. It is still possible for you to turn camera around and see a bunch of zombies spawned in. Or them running at you from behind a crate or something when there was nothing before. Imagine choosing to loot a lonely farm only to spawn a dozen of zombies because you made noise. Yes, they can even spawn behind you in an empty field. Just like old times. - Multiplayer is just not good. If you're thinking about picking this game up with your buddies then I'd suggest playing something else. You're basically an NPC on your friend's base. No, you're not sharing the base together, you cannot create a separate base on the map, you're just here to help your friend loot stuff around. You can't even leave the circle surrounding the host because you will be disconnected. Despite all the good and bad, I am still in love with this game. It is unique, tense, lots of possible stories that can happen to your characters, and in many ways just a huge upgrade from the previous game. If you're into zombie survival and don't mind playing solo you will fall in love too even though it has quite a few irritating things about it.

State of Decay 2 honestly surprised me in the best way. It’s not just another zombie game—it feels real in a way that pulls you in and keeps you hooked. What I love most is how every decision actually matters. You’re not just running around killing zombies—you’re taking care of a group of survivors, each with their own personalities and struggles. You get attached to them… which makes it hit even harder when things go wrong (and they will go wrong 😅). The gameplay is super engaging. One minute you’re casually looting a house, the next you’re running for your life because a horde showed up out of nowhere. Nighttime? Even worse—in the best way possible. It keeps you on edge the whole time. I also really appreciate how no two playthroughs feel the same. Different characters, different situations, different outcomes. It never gets boring because there’s always something new happening. It’s not perfect, but the experience? Definitely worth it. If you’re into survival games where your choices actually mean something, State of Decay 2 is a must-play. Highly recommended.

Played over 1000Hrs on this game and honestly will play another 1000Hrs over and over again and again. Its in my Top 3 Best games ever. With that said everyone has different taste in games although giving this game a chance is worth it. Play Green zone and its fun and can kind of get boring, dropping zeds left right and centre then you wonder what the other difficulties have to offer. Move up the Difficulty and you start to realize something is cooking until you end up in Lethal Difficulty where you quickly find out you cant sprint for 1 quick minute without alerting 1 zed calling all his buddies over and 3 ferals rolling up on you with a Juggernaut or 2 where you find yourself on a cars roof unable to believe what you are witnessing (Soon after you die trying to juke them but you get dropped instantly). In every Difficulty it seems like you get a different game getting more intense with every step needing to use different playing styles and techniques. Love it and can't wait for State of Decay 3.

It's like a Harvest Moon game, but instead of taking care livestocks and crops, you take care whiny survivors because you forgot to bring home a food in your supply run and now the entire home base is mad. 9/10 I hate managing people in the zombie apocalypse.
