It's a cute casual game that's extremely easy and also very long. It needed just a little bit more in terms of the production values of the actual interaction on the islands to make it great, but it's acceptable as it is. It's kind of a mix of Harvest Moon and Wind Waker, but there's no combat and the core game design is extremely simple. You start off on your own farm and have to upgrade your tools, purchase crops and build things up to progress. The goal isn't to have a better farm, in fact farming barely matters in this game at all. You need to harvest some crops for food and cloth to complete quests to get to the end of the game. As the game progresses you see more and more of the outside world. It's exciting in the beginning because there's more depth than there initially seems. Once you make it to the main island you start completing quests and eventually expand outward to sail to other islands. Unfortunately, the game world is not very interactive and much of the game is just running around, skipping through dialogue, going back to your island to cook a dish, and running around again. The only major limitations are food and money. You need to eat to avoid passing out, but the game starts you with a surplus of oranges all over so you never run out. As far as money, it's tough in the beginning, but as soon as you learn to harvest minerals you can basically just smash up ore for cash, making the whole farming aspect feel pointless. The intro cutscene is great, the music is beautiful and I like that there's an actual plot with a conclusion. There's a lot of heart to this game, but it lacks the interactivity that would make it comparable to a really good Nintendo game. For example, you build a swingset at one point, but she doesn't even have a swinging animation, she just sits on it. There are beach balls sitting on the beach that never move. And when you get to the mini games, like a boat race, it's not a race at all, and you auto win each one. The fishing is a joke, diving underwater to find treasure or getting it on land is no challenge at all. The only hard thing about this game, if you even want to call it that, is finding the items you need to progress, but this game has its own wiki to explain where everything is. Still, there is constant feedback as you complete quests, unlock more items, recipes, tools and explore the world further by sailing around in it. This makes the game enjoyable despite some short comings in the design. There are certain things you need to know, for example: to get water, you have to collect empty bottles and then use a very specific fountain. To collect coal, you need to get a fire pit and burn down some plants you put down. Some items can be bought in shops, others are found through recipes. Discovering all of this in the beginning was fun, but for 100% completion you'll likely want to look things up online. There's one part in particular where you have to collect nuts that are only found on one island and don't always even spawn there. Hunting down all the fish is also a bit of work, but generally this game lacks any real challenge and yet is still quite a grind to finish because of how long it is. There are over 100 missions, and they don't give you very good rewards for them, which means you probably have to grind for cash in between. If you don't like this sort of game, or backtracking in general, I would steer clear of this one. However, if you don't mind some weaker design flaws you will probably see some of the redeeming values of this game in the overall feel and progression. This game appears to have somewhat of a cult following, so the people who like it really seem to like it.

ONLY buy this game if you're interested in a prequel to the newer game "Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara" or whatever it's called... something like that anyway. This game is intended for audiences under the age of 12. Your "heroine" is six years old and just buried her only family, her adopted grandmother. And yet somehow she is the "only one" who is interested in saving the world from greedy alien invaders who want to strip-mine the planet. And the only help she finds is a group of retired pirates who are all afraid to go outside their own homes anymore. BUT that said, most of the game is very cute, sweet, and the play style is casual. Exploring the world is easy to learn, and you'll find some interesting things out among the various islands of the world. There's farming, and fishing, mining, crafting, cooking, and hunger/energy survival mechanics too. So yeah... it's not THAT bad... except for a couple of things that really turned me off. Here's what I hate about this game: 1. The fishing minigame SUCKS SO BAD. But I found a way to FIX IT by adding a "launch option" in the game's properties from your Steam Library - just reduce your screen resolution to 1920x1080 or smaller!! Now fishing is not only POSSIBLE, it's actually EASY!! See my Steam Guide about it if you also have trouble with fishing, or also with UI or HUD buttons and objects not displaying right or being off the edge of the screen. Seriously this fixes 90% of the bugs in this game. 2. The ENERGY system sucks. A lot. You drain energy a bit just by standing still and letting time pass. If you run, it drains faster. Every time you mine, chop a tree, plant a seed, water a plant, harvest a crop, or basically do anything at all, it drains a chunk of energy. Your energy will literally last you 2.5 hours out of every day. The bar drains TOO FAST to be reasonable. It really limits your ability to DO ANYTHING AT ALL. If you run out, you will immediately pass out and the day ends, you start the next day with just half your energy refilled. Sleeping in your boat or a sleeping bag also leaves you with only half your energy. (Sleeping at your house or the inn at the village gives you full energy but it still only lasts 2.5 hours.) To refill your energy you can sleep and end the day... or you can eat food. To get food, you need to grow ingredients on your farm and then cook them in your kitchen. But most foods only restore a small amount of energy. The ones that do a full recovery require six or seven different kinds of ingredients, and multiples of each one. SO you'll spend 3 out of every 5 days working on your farm just to feed your energy bar for all five days. It's ridiculous. But then again... you are a six year old girl so I guess you get worn out pretty quickly because you need more naps. 3. Trees take TOO LONG to grow and produce fruit. Specifically the cocoa tree and the pineapple tree, both of which you NEED FOR MAIN QUEST PROGRESSION near the end of the game... you won't get enough fruit from them though so you'll get bored and quit before beating the game, I promise you that. AND what's more, the chocolate quest only gives you 3 cocoa beans... the game doesn't even tell you that you're supposed to PLANT THEM, you'll probably just assume you're supposed to use them in your kitchen to make 1 piece of chocolate... but the quest needs FIVE pieces of chocolate. (Hint: cocoa beans can be found on the "Withering Island" but they take forever to respawn.) AND what's even more than more, you don't get pineapples until you're already at the end of the game. They only grow on one island. Nobody sells them. By the time you even are able to plant your first pineapple tree you're like "Great, I just need a few more pineapples and then I can do the final mission!" But it takes A MONTH of in-game time to grow pineapples. WTF man? SO yeah... it's a fun, sweet, cozy game. But a couple of the mechanics are SO BAD that it just gets frustrating after a while. According to Steam's statistics, only about 12% of players make it past the halfway point, the rest quit by then - probably because they didn't know how to fix the broken fishing system. There is a sequel... which is a better game in my opinion. If you want to know the history before you play that game, then try this one i guess. It's not "a bad game" really, it's just severely hampered by the fishing and energy systems, and the way some of the late-game fruit is tied into the main quest.

A tentative recommend with BIG caveats: - The game is very repetitive, mostly consisting of fetch quests, so you will likely want to have a podcast or a video running on a second monitor to not die of boredom - The UI feels incomplete, like it was shipped mid-development. It's missing tons of button hints, UI prompts and tutorials, which makes it sometimes very confusing to understand what are you supposed to do next. - Don't expect a farming simulator from this game, all the farming and adjacent stuff is purely in service of fetch quests and there's essentially no reason to interact with it otherwise. Yes this all sounds very negative, but I still sorta enjoyed my time with it treating it as a podcast-game that doesn't require a big part of your brain to complete. And the art is very cute.

I like this game. I think its cute and the art style is fun. Like other reviews this is game is mainly a lot of running back and forth to complete quests and the NPCs pride themselves on being kind and polite but are very rude to your character. I don't mind the back and forth, I just wish the NPCs were a bit nicer and could show more gratitude for having their errand completed

This game is often on sale..... for a reason. Although it is a finished game is is unpolished lacking some small finesses that would make this game amazing. The concept is great with the story, however, like every other review will tell you. It is a fetch quest galore. Go here and then go over here and then go back here. Rinse, lather, and repeat. I wish there was some differences in the quests so that it would help or something more. Would recommend others over this but if you have played the others this is alright. Got all the achievements in the time listed.
