I just 100% completed this game, and it was a real gem. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy farming-style game. The game has a day and night cycle, but unlike many others in the genre, there is no energy system, so you can keep playing without needing to stop to rest. The art style is cute. I really liked the trading system, as it was a refreshing change from the usual gold-based setup. It was nice to see another culture represented. That said, it is worth knowing what kind of experience to expect before jumping in: Remembering which trader traded what could be annoying. Eventually, you unlock the ability to see traders on the map, but by then you have usually already figured it out, so it feels less useful than it should. Map needed to be a bit more polished. There is no crop growing, and animal husbandry is very limited, with only three animals you can breed and gather products from. There is a home location, but I personally did not find much use for it and rarely spent any time there. You can also buy land in different locations, but apart from unlocking an achievement, it does not really serve much purpose beyond decorating. It is not a particularly long game either — I finished everything in about 15 hours. For me, the biggest downside is the lack of replayability. I cannot really see myself coming back to it, even for a fresh save. Even so, I still genuinely recommend it to fans of cozy games. I just think it is important to be clear about what this game does and does not offer. I would love to see DLC in the future, although I am not sure that will happen.
First of all, I was born and raised in Rio Grande do Sul, so the connection hit instantly. The Chimarrão, the pampas, the tone of the characters, the folklore.. it all felt familiar in a way that’s hard to explain if you didn’t grow up around it. And right away, that gave the game a lot of goodwill with me. At first glance, it looks like it might be another cozy farming sim. Another Stardew-like. But that comparison only gets you so far. Very quickly, Gaucho and the Grasslands makes it clear it’s doing its own thing. You inherit a piece of land from your father, sure. That part feels familiar. But instead of settling into a simple farming loop, the game opens up into something more symbolic and more narrative-driven. You explore three regions inspired by southern Brazil, all dealing with strange imbalances after their guardians disappear. And instead of solving problems with combat or brute force, you help people. You listen. You fix what’s broken. Sometimes literally. Sometimes spiritually. There’s no money system here, which I genuinely liked. Everything works through bartering and favors. It reinforces the idea that this world values relationships over numbers. You’re not grinding gold, you’re building trust. And that small design choice quietly shapes the entire experience. Mechanically, the game leans more into gathering and ranching than traditional farming. You repair fences, lasso runaway cattle, collect materials, and build structures. You can customize your character, your dog, and your horse, which adds a nice personal touch. It’s all pretty simple, but it works. What really surprised me, though, were the spiritual labyrinth sections. The game’s main threat, rooted in Brazilian folklore, doesn’t lead to traditional boss fights. Instead, these moments play out as symbolic trials focused on compassion, balance, and understanding. Amulets replace weapons. Empathy replaces violence. It’s quiet. A little weird. And honestly, refreshing. That said, this is still very much an indie game, and you feel it. The tutorial is rough. A bit cramped. A bit confusing. Thankfully, once the world opens up, those fears fade, but that first impression isn’t doing the game any favors. The UI is probably the weakest part. Menus feel awkward. Hotkeys can betray you. Shops operate through dialogue instead of clear interfaces, which means you’re constantly double-checking what you’re trading. It’s not game-breaking, but it is friction you keep bumping into. Visually, the world is charming but sometimes feels emptier than it probably should. There’s this constant sense that the horizon is just out of reach, not in a poetic way, but in a “did this not load yet?” way. The guardian realms are fantastic, though. Brighter, stranger, more expressive. The music kicks harder there too, especially toward the end, where the soundtrack does more emotional heavy lifting than the gameplay itself. One small frustration for me was progression balance. Some items, like the Chimarrão, take longer than they should to unlock. Beneath the rough edges, there’s so much care here. So much intention. This isn’t a game trying to be the next big genre-defining hit. It’s a game trying to represent a culture, its myths, its rhythms, and its values. And on that front, it succeeds more often than it fails. TL;DR: This is a heartfelt, cozy adventure that stands out through its cultural identity, folklore, and gentle approach to heroism. It stumbles with UI design and early pacing, but its charm, music, and unique themes carry it forward. Rough around the edges, yes, but sincere, memorable, and absolutely worth experiencing. 7/10
Game is very cute, with cuddly characters, especially the animals. Depicts the traditional Gaucho culture in a very lighthearted and warm way. I especially like how the game doesn’t really take time to explain things, like a game that’s too worried about the foreign market/audience would. It simply is what it is, and it’s better for it. Special shoutout to the soundtrack, which is extremely pleasant.
This is a beautiful and sweet cozy game. My family is from the Brazilian state the game captures. I've learned so much about gaúcho culture and have been able to practice my Portuguese. Highly recommend if you loved games like Stardew and Luma Island. Also, who doesn't love riding around on a horse with your dog companion?
