TLDR: Fun but flawed The good: Driving The driving is fun - really fun. The cars feel weighty and you have to take both mass and power into account when racing and throwing the machine into the corner. The rally cars are very good for this - you can feel that there is a high power-to-weight ratio and mastering the Norwegian flick feels great. It's very rewarding to scamper round a corner with your car not once facing direction of travel until you're flicking it into the next hairpin. There is a high skill ceiling to the game. It rewards skill and punishes mistakes. The developer deserves kudos for this. Tracks There is a VERY wide variety of tracks, from classics like Suzuka and Monza to American style ovals and everything in between. This leads to a variety in the challenges the game poses, from consistently picking the right turn-in points on oval circuits to working out the right cadence of braking, flicking, counter-steering, and accelerating on the excellent rally stages, which are a highlight of the game. Cars There is also a VERY wide variety of cars in the game, from 50hp Citroen 2CVs to 900+hp monsters. When you either win or buy a more powerful machine, you very often need to relearn tracks, as the braking points, rotation speeds and behaviours for the new vehicle are really quite different. This provides an ongoing challenge that gives you reason to come back. The meh: Cars There are too many cars that you race once, complete a cup, then never use again. Some vehicles given as a reward never even get raced. I get that I can sell these and use the credits for the vehicles I actually want, but I'd rather have the cash straight away - I can work out how to buy a car without being forced to use the system to get rid of cars I never wanted in the first place. If the system is to stay as it is (I suspect it will), it would be useful to signal much more clearly if a car is required or recommended for a particular event. NPCs The AI racers are absolute bastards. They're worse than Verstappen for moving under braking, sometimes just outright T-boning you into hairpins and the like. The backmarkers weave on the straights, which is infuriating as that's just black flag level driving standards. Progression Others have praised the game for its progression system, but I feel the praise is somewhat misplaced. You shouldn't have to scrabble around for credits, repeatedly rerunning races (as I've seen people advise) that are no longer challenging in order to afford to upgrade the car you are currently working on. It basically makes what would otherwise be a fun and engaging racing game into a grind for seemingly no good reason. At the beginning, when you're in smaller cars, the rewards for completing weekends and competitions seem proportionate, perhaps even a little too generous given the limited upgrade pathways for those cars. At higher horsepower, the rewards are quite stingy, leading to the advice outlined above. In other words, the progression doesn't flow smoothly, especially at higher engine displacements. The above issue is doubly annoying for me, as some cups require you to have particular cars that you have to buy; you don't seem to receive a vehicle suitable for those competitions by completing others. System requirements For a game of this type, the graphics requirements seem quite high (minimum GTX 1050 Ti). It works well on all my PCs with dGPUS (from my RTX 4070-S desktop to my ageing Dell laptop with a GTX 1060 Max-Q. However, I have a mini-PC with an intel UHD 730 iGPU. It can emulate Crash Team Racing, Mario Kart 64 and other games of the PS1/N64 era at 60FPS with no problems, but Super Woden GP 2 runs at an unplayable framerate, which is a little frustrating. Conclusion: Overall, this is a fun game. It could be a lot more fun but several design decisions make the game feel very restrictive at times, which can lead to frustration.

Befor you buy Super Woden GP II you should be aware that this title has a bit of a difficulty curve: In the beginning everything is relatively tame and you can steer around corners just fine on reaction. Once you gain access to 300+ PS events the cars get so fast that this doesn't work anymore even at max camera distance, you'll crash into the railing most of the time. This is by design and part of the philosophy of this game. At that point you'll have to start steering befor you see the curve, in practice that means you need to check the mini map more frequently and orient yourself on landmarks on the track. This means there is quite a bit of a learning curve with trail and error but it feels very rewarding once you nail it. The soundtrack fits the vibe of old arcade games perfectly, just like pretty much every aspect of this game does imho. However ViJuDa didn't just copy and paste the past here but improved upon it. This is most noticeable in the car physics - pretty much every car (of over 180 available cars according to vendor page) feels different! You can win currency that you can spend on new cars or tuning old ones which creates a pretty satisfying progression cycle. Once you're done with single player you can still spend a lot of time on "endgame", the invitation race. Every week or two new tracks and cars get selected for 3 different categories so everyone can compete with each other on equal footing (same tracks/cars with same tuning level) to compare their best times. At that point the car variety realy starts to shine and prolong the longevity of this game. I can't stress enough how satisfying some of those endgame cars handle despite only reacting to digital inputs (analogue sticks work but get translated to simple on and off inputs), rally cars in particular slide extremly nicely around corners. If I had to nitpick something then it would be a lack of online multiplayer minor inconveniences in the user interface, most of whom got adressed with patches, together with extra tracks and cars way after release, for free! TL.DR.: If "triple A" game companies would care just a fraction as much to deliver a good product as ViJuDa did here then gaming would be pure bliss.

An improvement on the original in almost every way: this is the best top down driving game around right now, imo. Compared to the first game, what sticks out for me is: - Improved visuals - Much larger amount of cars available - Improved handling, especially for slower cars - Performance upgrades (though their gameplay value is very limited, other than a money sink) - Improved AI (now much less annoying!) - Easier to navigate the tracks, thanks to larger view range and warning system I still have some nitpicks of course: - Race/Rally cars are completely superior to stock cars. This itself is fine, but they compete in the same brackets, because brackets are based purely on HP. They should be separated imo, at the very least for lap records. - Speaking of lap records, why not keep track of records per car model as well? Every bracket has 1 or 2 cars that are just the best in their class, using anything else is for flavour only. - And on that note, quite a few cars are basically useless. Either they're on the bottom end of their bracket and can barely even do anything against AI, and/or there's no events for them to compete in meaningfully at all. - Low speed turning ability is atrocious. If you crash and get turned around, it's often impossible to face the right way again without hitting the sides of the track again or taking forever backing out. Ok so that's quite a lot of text spent on negatives, but please don't take this as a negative: I'd just love to see these otherwise small things improved.

Super Woden GP 2 is, without a doubt, a love letter to racing games. Somehow, it’s the only modern title that truly captures the progression style of the early Gran Turismo games. Winning races feels genuinely rewarding, and the arcade-style handling strikes a great balance between fun and challenge. It’s a great game—passionate, well-crafted, and full of heart.

I really love this game. It has all the makings of a Gran Turismo game with a really good retro style. The progression is slow (which I personally like), and the soundtrack is amazing. Now, the car handling is great up until you get to the 500+ horsepower range. Below that, I have no problems with it. Above that however, the game's whole isometric top down style really does these faster cars a disservice. The game turns from reaction to anticipation. The cars move so fast and the camera can barely keep up resulting in either a crash, or you have to then just anticipate the steering angle of the upcoming corner and hope you get it right.
