I LOVE this game. It's very clearly Hades but Co-op and with Arthurian Legend which is great because I love playing action roguelikes with the husband. There are two very clear cons for me: one (which a lot of other people have mentioned) is the fact that you cannot save mid fight. That means if you crash, which is very possible from at least one of you during the game, you have to start all over. This can get very frustrating and very old very quickly. The second is more skill issue based, but I despise platformers. I suck at it and they just don't work for my brain. It's extremely frustrating for me when I have a good build going and then we get a platforming/dodging room. I sometimes die THREE TIMES in one room and then our entire build is just ruined because I absolutely cannot do the platforming. Now onto the pros: I love the art, love the voice acting, love the lore involved, love the soundtrack, the new ideas (drinking potions, the two Gods working togehter in duos, the ultimates, the pets that tag along), how there are 5 different difficulty levels to work your way up, and just the fact that it IS co-op and we can play together, because I probably wouldn't play this game on my own. Finished? Beat the game once, now working on higher levels Steam Achievements? Very skill based. Steam Deck? Didn't try! Let me start this by saying that I haven't played Hades so I can't compare, but having played Sworn I can tell you that if Hades plays anything like Sworn, and if it had co-op - I would get it without hesitation. So let's start the review with a quick summary: Gameplay: 9/10. It's incredibly responsive, fun, deep and engaging. More enemy variety and it be a 10. Character build depth: 10/10. The mix of class, weapon, fae blessing and other elements give some crazy varied, unique and cool builds! Boss fights: 8/10. The bosses are good, but I would not mind seeing more alternative and variety bosses. Biomes: 6/10. So far I've only seen 4 biomes and I've been playing for over 40 hours. The biomes are fine, but would like to see more variety. Challenge: 9/10. The challenge is SOLID! Hard fights and once you get a handle on it, there are more difficulties (with more variety!). Fights: 8/10. The fights are a lot of fun, but would not mind seeing more variety in enemy units, enemy elites, and enemy legendary beasts (mini-bosses). Story: 6/10. Does it matter? It's not super engaging, but it has me curious about the world and it's honestly the gameplay that sells you so yeah. Now lets go a bit deeper. Sworn plays fantastic - you can do so many unique builds with how you can mix the four characters, the four class unique weapons, and then the blessings you pick up along the way from the 8 fae gods (and other rewards). And for those wondering - I don't think you need to play this with a controller. We play with mouse and keyboard and I personally like it a lot. One concern I had going into the game was that I heard it was unstable in multiplayer and playing with my friends was why I wanted to get this - and I am happy to say it runs flawlessly. We play 2 player, 3 player and 4 player at times and have never had an issue. Runs perfectly and it's a ton of fun! It's extra fun because it actually gets more difficult the more of you who are playing. The only thing I find a bit weak is lack of variety in enemies. I'm not going to spoil the bosses, but will say that I wish there were more alternating bosses - and maybe even alternating phases for some of the bosses so take you by surprise. Same goes for the legendary beasts (mini-bosses) and the general enemies along with their elite versions. I would also like to see more biomes - the biomes in the game are fun, but you always know the starting biome and each biome that follows and I would love for this to be alternating as well. Don't get me wrong - still a blast, but more variety would make it even greater. And finally - what I wish to come. Again, more alternating bosses, mini-bosses, elites and regular enemies; biomes, fae realm missions, events, etc.. Beyond those I would not be against seeing a DLC that adds more characters, weapons, spells, but there is still a lot of hours left to explore what is already in the game. As an action roguelite thingy (?) I think this does an amazing job and I would recommend it for most people who enjoy those kind of games. I would 100% recommend it if you enjoy playing those kind of games in co-op with friends. I would roughly rank this an 8.5 out of 10 - it's a fantastic game and it has the potential to be even better something I hope the devs keep working at!
