I wish this game had been discovered by as many people as Slay the Spire 2.. it's basically a more elaborate version of StS2.

Great game even though there are no major changes to the formula. Tainted Grail: Conquest plays exactly from what is expected from a roguelike deckbuilder. You accumulate cards after every battle, choose a passive every time you level up, collect consumable items, and encounter some difficult progression choices. What sets it apart from your typical roguelike are the RPG elements. Through your tries to finish your main quests, you will encounter NPCs and have to make choices that will help you in later runs by upgrading your village (starting point and bridge between sections) and unlocking new and improved abilities. There are 9 different classes to choose from, and you unlock them as you play the game. Each one plays extremely differently and introduces new cards, passives, and mechanics, always ensuring freshness and new playstyles. There are a lot of mechanics and interactions to keep track of that can be a tad overwhelming at first, but as you get the gist of it, it becomes more clear and automatic. There's a lot of content to explore, and yes, some characters severely outclass others by being easier to play and inherently stronger. The art direction is great, I loved it. It's rough with a ton of personality, creating a very distinct setting. Mob design is over the top (in a good way) and detailed. UI is simple and direct, I never felt lost or found myself looking up concepts. The story, as far as I have played, is good and intriguing, leaving the player wanting to explore it further and find the how's and why's. Voice acting felt a little bit off in the beginning, but it's grown on me. The soundtrack is also great. I don't know how I feel about the RPG elements. Some of them felt great, working really well with the rest of the game, and some of them felt off and maybe even unnecessary, but I guess those are personal preferences more than anything. I'm looking forward to delving even more into this world.

So I just beat Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon and this showed up on the steam sale page. Okay this is great. I was actually looking for a game just like this last year but couldn't find anything that tickled my fancy. This one hits the spot. The creators definitely have great taste. Huge fan of anything Tainted Grail now. Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror + King Arthur wrapped up in Celtic/Norse Paganism. This is the perfect franchise for someone like me.

Great storytelling, lore, art, voice acting, and music, especially the music and voice acting, which were really immersive for me. The gameplay can feel a bit slow and awkward, and since it’s a roguelike, you’ll need to die multiple times to learn and understand the classes you pick. Every run will be different, even if you choose the same class. All in all, I enjoyed the game and highly recommend it to anyone who likes turn-based combat.

Not a bad game, but too slow grind of materials for improvements, etc. It's a pity that now almost all developers have almost forgotten what real rogue-like mechanics should be: it's not a grind. It's experiments, searches, achievements that should unlock something new. And not a slow and boring grind.
