To start with the con(s): - I think the story might be my least favorite aspect of this game. It felt like children are the target audience, but at the same time there were some heavy subjects like death, cannibalism and severed limbs. However, I love the rest of the game so much that it doesn't matter much to me. The pros: - It's open world with many things to do, a bit like Zelda BotW, so you can choose what you want to spend your time on - You can turn into certain objects and animals, so if you don't like walking around, you can turn into a deer or even fly as a bird, and though you can also sail, if you don't like that, you can also turn into a dolphin (!) - Combat feels unique, I think you can shoot with a slingshot, but you mainly have to be creative and turn into explosive objects and throw them into the enemies, which was pretty fun imo - If you don't like the gameplay you can skip the gameplay segments to see the next part of the story, which I've never seen before, and makes the game more accessable to different people - There's some other fun stuff like playing songs on your ukulele (though if you don't like that you can also choose not to do that part), and cooking food (though I only did that once, I'm not sure if you can do it more often) - I really love how the game was developed to share a lesser known culture in a respectful way, and how they worked with local people to create the voices and music for example, so we can enjoy it all over the world - I might still be forgetting something but I hope this info helps
A Beautiful, Heartwarming, and Soulful Tropical Adventure Tchia is a wonderful and charming open-world game that feels like a love letter to New Caledonia's culture. It’s a cozy, beautiful journey filled with music, exploration, and a unique sense of freedom. The Soul-Jumping Mechanic: This is the best part of the game! Being able to possess and control over 30 types of animals and inanimate objects (like birds, sharks, or even rocks) makes traversal incredibly fun and creative. Beautiful Cultural Representation: The music, the fully voiced native language, and the local folklore give this game a distinct, authentic, and heartwarming personality. The ukelele rhythm mini-games are a lovely touch. Gorgeous Art and Atmosphere: The tropical archipelago is beautiful to look at. Sailing on your raft, gliding through the air, and watching the sunset feels incredibly relaxing. Pure Freedom: The game doesn't hold your hand. It encourages you to explore at your own pace, climb anything, and just enjoy the sandbox world. Final Verdict: Tchia is a heartwarming, magical, and culturally rich adventure. If you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful open-world game with Wind Waker or Breath of the Wild vibes but with its own unique soul, this is definitely worth playing!
If you would like a more cozy, relaxing and pacifist version of Wind Waker, this is it. Don't expect action, just sit back, relax and enjoy. At first I was a bit disappointed - the world felt bare, I didn't see why soul jumping was relevant and there wasn't much to do. I just walked around, explored and avoided the small soldier camps because I needed more stamina. I went in thinking it was a short game, and thought I was right after playing for a while, but I was proven so wrong! Fast forward to me getting more stamina and finally continuing with the actual plot, and suddenly there were SO many things to do. I had so much fun! As someone who loves exploring, finding collectables and side quests/games, this was right up my alley. The story was cute, nothing special, but I liked the hints of both humor and something more serious. All elements of the game seemed really thought out, as in, I could see, hear and feel the 'New Caledonia' inspiration throughout the game. As I played through the game I just got more and more positively surprised, it was such a good gaming experience, and when I got to the end, I had hoped there would be more quests, because I was not ready for it to be over. And I think that explains it well "I expected a short and small game, got positively surprised, and when I reached the end all I wanted was to continue playing because it was so good".
I'm gonna say something crazy. This game is basically a cozy pacifist version of Just Cause 3. You play as an indigenous child instead of a mercenary, and instead of hijacking vehicles you turn into animals, and instead of killing people and blowing stuff up, you help your community while searching for your dad and learning about a fictionalized New Caledonia. But the game at it's heart is a giant playground spread across an archipelago, where you can pretty much do whatever you want to. You can sail around at will, you can dive and explore coral reefs, you have a Ukulele that basically works like the Ocarina of Time, you have a glider and you can SPIDER-MAN CLIMB LITERALLY ANYTHING. This is the greatest little girl in the history of little girls, and this is a game that defines the term sandbox game. This is a game that provides a massive amount of freedom, like almost too much. But there is SO MUCH to do in this game. And if you find something you don't wanna do, you can skip gameplay sequences.
I dont think I have ever played any game that immersive and just makes me just slow down and enjoy . I'm someone who likes to travel in real life. This game scratch that wanderlust for me . I love exploring every part of the world in this game and this game has the best way to offer that - by soul jumping <3.
