This game is a lot of fun. It's the kind of thing that is often derisively called a walking simulator, but it has plenty of atmosphere and great environments. I really enjoyed just poking around the environments and solving the puzzles, none of which were very difficult. This isn't a super-ambitious game, but it's more important for a game to fulfill what ambitions it has than to have super lofty ones and then fail to achieve them. This isn't going to change your life or blow your mind, but it's atmospheric, creepy, pretty short and well-paced. I enjoyed this quite a lot and it's even more impressive since it came from a solo dev. Easy to recommend this one.
THE LAND OF PAIN First game by developer Alessandro Guzzo, I was more or so invested in the game and it was mostly enjoyable throughout the whole playthrough. The Lovecraftian story was engaging, the mystery of exploration and the creepiness of the adventure while avoiding that monster! Yeah... that one annoying and irritating entity that chases you around and doesn't let go! What's most annoying is if you are chased, you can forego any secrets that could be scattered around and that is such a shame. The visuals are still pretty nice to this day, almost 10 years later! The sounds and music does the job quite well too. Gameplay is mostly a walking simulator at times but you have to do many interactions with certain items, in order to progress the story. And that was another irritant and there is A LOT of backtracking since you require X item to open Y door (key, chainsaw, hammer... etc!) and doing all that while avoiding that monster... that just seems to sniff your @$$ even across the map. Not... fun! Sure the game would had been much shorter if some of these "puzzles" were removed but I think it would had been a better experience than padding the game longer than it's welcome. I did not encountered any bugs or technical issues. The game supports perfectly Ultrawide monitor, so that is a huge pro in my book! OVERALL & RECOMMENDATION: Overall, I enjoyed this Lovecraftian game, even with the irritants! The story was good and I was hooked to know how it was going to end. It's clearly not perfect, the monster was annoying and at times, the objectives weren't too clear near the end. But I had played WAY worse games than this before. I recommend you give this a try if you do have an interest. It is surprising how talented the developer is and I am looking forward to play his other games... The Alien Cube and the latest one just released today, Cosmic Fear.
