The Lightkeeper is a creepy atmospheric walking simulator that takes place on a small island with a lighthouse and a few small other buildings. The gameplay involves exploring the island, carrying out various small jobs, and uncovering several mysteries regarding the island and your haunted past. The game takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. + The atmosphere, cinematography, and art direction in the game is stunning. + The cutscenes are exremely well made. + The sound effects are very clear and perfectly placed. The birds, wind, ocean waves, wooden doors creaking, the island feels alive. + The dialog is voice acted very well, not AI. + Interesting story with many allegories. + A few well placed jump scares. - The game starts of very strong, but kind of falls off and feels anemic near the end. The game could have used more scares, hauntings, and interesting things in general going on. Also a bit more length. The quality is there, but the actual gameplay needed some more excitement, more "oomph". - No real interesting puzzles to complete. Incredible atmosphere to just absorb one night around midnight, in the dark, with headphones on. Try to grab it on sale. Overall: 8/10

This game for me was one of the best horror games i've played. Good job darkphobia. The story, and atmosphere were amazing. I loved the cutscenes and it reminded me of some of the Love,Death, and Robots episodes.

Experienced on the Meta Quest 3 Yes, you can experience this game in VR using the UEVR mod by praydog (nightly version). There is a profile that uses motion controllers, but I played with gamepad and KBM. I had no issues whatsoever. However, game could be better optimized. On my RTX 5090, with graphics at max, I was getting around 70 fps. However, the game's visuals are near top-notch. Exploring the island and the lighthouse was a visual delight. Game is one of the better horror walking simulators IMO. Took me less than 2 hours to get both alternate endings. Perfect game for Halloween IMO and perfect for VR. VR Rating 8/10. I bought this game! If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator group [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Oculus_WMR]Oculus Rift Reviews.

The true story and the film The Lighthouse inspired this game. If you haven't watched it, then do. The lighthouse design and the rock island locations have many similarities to those in the movie; meanwhile, the plot is different. This is good game to spend an evening. Excellent visuals in the cutscenes, and the visuals in the game themselves are pretty decent. The atmosphere is excellent, reflecting the protagonist's loneliness when he's left alone with his inner demons in such a setting. The game definetely has a potential to continue the story. Probably not with the same character but with some other. Even a DLC or something would fit this because there many potential things that can be used more than ones (like Radio building, more meaningfull foghorn interactions and also the well), but maybe something more. I wish the devs will continue the story, considering there are not so many games based on such settings.

First of all, let's address the elephant in the room. Yes, the game does use A.I, even though in the latest update they removed the A.I voices and stated that the "game is 100% A.I free", I still don't believe it. There's something about the game that screams A.I. But also I remember that this is not a AAA game from a company that can 100% pay voice actors and more people to work on the project. There was probably less than 5 people working on this. I want to believe that not everything is made with A.I and there's passion behind this and someone that came up with the art design, the story, the camera angles and the atmosphere and I am okay if they have to use A.I to help them achieve that. The game is ok, it's cheap and short, amazing atmosphere and setting Another thing I wanted to mention is that the game has a lot of technical issues, the game feels like it needed more time to fix certain bugs and improving the user experience; - Some doors have weird floating models. - You can see some walls are not fully connected and you can see through them - Some cutscenes have some issues. For example, you can see what I mean in one of the trailers that at the minute 0:20 the protagonist is smoking the cigarette from the wrong side. - There is no real controller support. If you connect a controller, your right joystick works as a PC mouse and your right trigger as a left mouse click; it's extremely annoying to move around the menus - Steam Achievements are currently broken and not working I feel a lot of this issues, if not all, can be solved by just taking more time to develop the game. You only have 1 first impression.
