<--{ Gameplay }--> -The combat felt really weird at first and I had no idea what I was doing but once I got used to the timing system it became surprisingly addictive. -Leveling up was always satisfying and I often spent way too much time thinking about which talent to unlock next. -I also spent way too much time playing Dice Poker. I started the series with the Witcher 3, continued with the Witcher 2, and wanted to give the Witcher 1 a chance despite it being very old, and i actually really enjoyed it. However, the combat mechanics and the incredibly sluggish running/walking animations truly made it a frustrating experience. For a moment, i even wanted to quit the game, but i was stubborn and pushed through to finish it. The story progresses nicely, as mentioned before, the graphics are dated, so anyone playing it for the visuals will be disappointed. Someone who has played The Witcher 3 will definitely be disappointed here, but it’s still worth giving a chance.
Haven't played this since its OG release. An amazing gem though. Play this to realize why team Yenn and not team Tress is a thing. ;) Combat is definitely not what I remember it being (in a rough clunky way). So that has not aged well. But the overall story and experience is fun if you enjoyed Witcher 2 & 3 and want more of this world. Honestly you could just play on Easy to not deal with the combat if is frustrates you so you can go through the story. If you have patience to get through this 19 year old game though, it's a solid Witcher journey. Honestly I expect a remaster someday.
My First Witcher Game I just spent over 70 hours finishing everything the game has to offer. My verdict? a mixed bag It's a time capsule from 2007, the atmosphere and the art direction are still great. But the technical side is janky. I lost count of the T-posing monsters and NPCs who delivered heartfelt lined while staring at a wall. The animations are often hilarious by accident, and I laughed more at the glitches than at some of the actual jokes. You have to embrace the jank. The gameplay is simple to a fault. Combat involves choosing the right sword (steel for humans, silver for monsters) and one of three styles. once you get the rhythm, you can practically play with one finger. I barely touched the alchemy system; by doing side quests, you become so powerful that chugging potions feels unnecessary. The story and Characters are fantastic. I went in knowing nothing about the lore, and the game does a good job pulling you into the world.
