Welcome back to Fort Oasis. Coming into the remake of Total Chaos, I carried a lot of nostalgia with me. I played the original Doom II mod back when it first surfaced, and I was genuinely amazed by what it achieved on such an ancient engine. It pushed boundaries in graphics, atmosphere, and mechanics, and delivered one of the most memorable horror experiences I had ever seen built on the Doom framework. And the fact that all of that came at the unbeatable price of free made it feel like some kind of miracle project. So when the remake was announced, my expectations weren’t just high; they were sky-high. I wanted to see what had changed, what had improved, and whether that eerie, oppressive magic of the mod had survived the transition. And I’m happy to say that it absolutely did. The remake is stunning, almost shockingly so. Fort Oasis and the surrounding island feel more alive and more dead than ever before. The lighting, the texture work, the environmental detail... everything has this grimy, unsettling beauty to it that pulls you in and refuses to let go. It is one of those games where you stop just to stare at broken walls or fog-choked hallways because the mood hits that well. Combat has also seen a major uplift. It feels tighter, heavier, and more deliberate than in the original mod. Every encounter has weight, and the sound design sells every hit, every scrape, every distant noise that makes you wonder if something is actually there or if the game is just getting under your skin. What impresses me most, though, is the atmosphere. The whole island breathes slowly, quietly, and unsettlingly. Modern horror games often struggle to maintain tension without relying on cheap jumpscares, but Total Chaos manages to keep you anxious simply through world design, pacing, and sound. That takes real talent. If you have never played the original or if you are coming in fresh, I cannot recommend this remake enough. It is a haunting, beautifully crafted experience that deserves your time. Dive in, explore the ruins, and let Fort Oasis get under your skin again or for the first time.

Such a well designed game. Visually great and performs amazing without any stutters. Levels are a maze without any yellow markers, yet you don't get lost, props to the level designer. Combat is also satisfying with great audio design. It's hard to believe we've got such a polished game in 2025, almost unbelievable.

The fact that they remade what was once a complete conversion mod for Doom 2 into a full blown game is amazing in itself. As someone who played that original mod, I highly recommend this remake.
