Twinkleby is a game about a series of islands where residents float out of the sky and live in little dollhouse like homes you create. They each have individual preferences and needs, but they're very simple to fill. It's honestly more of a sandbox game for you to put your creations out in the world and enjoy them in a vey slow-paced, aesthetically pleasing way. For those who enjoy collecting, there are rare residents and different furniture sets to complete as well as colorways, weather affects, seasons, and other variants to unlock. But you don't have to play that way and it's very low stakes and cozy even if you do. It's kind of like Animal Crossing if the villagers didn't talk but were really Weeble toys that wobble but don't fall down.

Great game, fun and addictive -- just don't play it on Steamdeck. Saves on deck get eaten after you've gotten pretty deep into the game. :((

An adorable blend of Animal Crossing and [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/2013730/Gourdlets/?curator_clanid=45365863]Gourdlets , Twinkleby tasks you with decorating floating islands and furnishing dollhouses for a variety of quirky villagers. I sat down to play for a few minutes while drinking my morning tea, and now it's six hours later. Gameplay + Details Place items to attract villagers and meet their specific needs (including ~23 "unique" villagers such as Vincent Van Gogh and a fern-bear) while also collecting shooting stars called "stellars," which can be exchanged for new items. When your island is full and everyone is happy, the villagers sing and give you stuff, and you can move on to the next of (15) total islands. No timers or specific level goals. Controls. Great on keyboard/mouse. Playable with controller and Deck. Playtime. ~8 hours to unlock all islands; ??? to 100%. What Works For Me ✅ Huge catalog and variety of decorations, plus recolors. ✅ The cartoony 3D characters and rounded corners are so cute. ✅ Villagers interact with objects in funny ways. ✅ Super intuitive controls. ✅ Flicking unwanted items off the island is hilarious . ✅ Compulsively playable. ✅ Unlock new backgrounds, settings, and music as you play! ✅ Excellent photo mode. What Doesn't Work For Me 🟥 Happy villagers sing at you. You cannot skip it. 🟥 No rewards for attracting unique villagers after the song. 🟥 At least two achievements locked behind real seasonal events. 🟥 I almost felt bad for evicting villagers. Final Thoughts + Recommendation I've been down with a respiratory virus for the last week or so, and haven't been able to focus on anything more than short visual novels and shorter puzzles. It turns out, I just needed Twinkleby : a goofy but cute little dollhouse with tons of polish and enough momentum to feel like you're accomplishing something. Also, you can build libraries and perilously stack items to infinity and beyond. It's great. If you enjoy decorating games in general, or if furnishing houses was your favorite part of ACNH, then this is the game for you. It's so cozy that I actually made myself hot chocolate the old-fashioned way, added extra whipped cream, and settled back in for the long haul. Still on the fence? This game is so... nice. It's just NICE. Does it feel kinda goofy to be spending so many hours basically decorating dollhouses? Maybe. I dunno. I love a diorama, though. I love that you can choose seasons and weather (and how fiddling around with combinations can attract rare neighbors), I love the color palette, I love the five billion cute little objects you can place, I love how soft everything looks, I love how easy it is to meet neighbors' needs. You are always working toward a goal, but it's so low-effort that you'll never find yourself frustrated. If you're into cozy games, it doesn't get much cozier. ... Now, am I side-eyeing Might and Delight a bit for releasing this game while Book of Travels has been stuck in Early Access for 4 years after being Kickstarted 6 years ago? Maybe. But hopefully the sales from this game will go to that.

And the coziest game of the year award goes toooo *drum roll* TWINKLEBY!! The year isn't even done yet but trust me... when you know, you know ♡ I'll preface this by saying I am usually not a fan of decoration games because most lack direction and I find myself getting overwhelmed by all the options. This games ticks all the right boxes, offering people like me objectives without stifling creativity. You are tasked with decorating not only the interior of homes, but have full access to the whole floating isle. Potential residents will soon arrive and tell you what they are looking for to set up lodgings. Once the goal is met, you have the option to move onto a different level or stick around to decorate to your hearts content. There is even incentive to sticking around. The more you decorate and interact with the map, the more you fill a level gauge and the more perks you unlock. And it doesn't end there. Usually, I opt to play most of my games on the deck. But I actually chose to swap to my computer eventually because whilst the steam deck is completely PLAYABLE in terms of the controls, it doesn't do this game justice. You can zoom in and out, but the bigger screen is much appreciated because there is so much going on that can be easily missed with the smaller screen. As you are decorating, the little sims interact with the environment and each other. It is too cute and you do not want to miss any of it by being zoomed in. In addition to this, there are shooting stars and loot boxes to collect. If you are constantly zoomed in, it is easy to miss as I experienced often when I was playing on the deck. So steam deck users beware!! The best thing about this game tho, is that you don't have to worry about hording your collected items or limiting your decorating as you progress through the unlocked levels. I was scared of that at first, so I was really stingy with my decorating once objectives were met and even went back to the levels to toss all the decorations off the map to get it back into my inventory. Your unlocked items and collective inventory follows you throughout the game, even if they were used in prior levels. So let those creative juices flow and place away. It feels like there is never a dull moment in this game. The art, music and colour palette is so comfy cozy. You collect and unlock so much furniture as you progress though the levels but you can also visit a shop to buy more. There is so much variety and different styles. Even seasonal items. It is worth noting that you can change the colour of some items. You can change the wallpaper and flooring. You can even change the isle weather, season and time of day, creating your own ambience. The only thing I have noticed (unless I am doing something wrong) is that you cannot change the style or colour of items such as the roofing, windows or doors. That would be the only negative I have encountered so far. Honestly, this is the most perfect cozy gaming experience of the year. Just in time for sweater season too ^_^ This is a no brainer recommend from me. Don't walk, RUN to get this wholesome find!!
