Initial take is that it's neat for what it is. I like the graphics, I absolutely love the intense music, I like the aesthetic, I find it more fun on the surface than most crafting/survival games. However, it's pretty basic so far, which honestly, I like. I personally am not a fan of the bloated crafting systems a lot of these games have. This one keeps it simple. You get wood, you get chunks of metal, you get organic material. The raw metal gets turned into whatever kind of metal you need, then you make a few very basic components if needed (gears, bolts, screws), then make the object you need. Farming materials happens in a roughly 50-60 foot sphere around the train so there's no getting lost in the wilderness try to get the shiny MacGuffin you need to make a 69th level smelter. I'm going to catch some flak for this, but I don't really care. Why the hell was the banner retouched with AI? What was the reason? The old banner was just fine, this "new" one looks soulless and fake. This should also be disclosed on the game page and the developer needs to be transparent about AI usage.

OK, so I'm playing the game after not playing it for awhile. So far, I've just passed (spoilers for chapter 2) ||that one really trippy part after drinking the water in the tower|| , and I have some thoughts about the game, so I guess I'll put them here (Please note that I've basically entirely been playing on Steam Deck): - First of all, the game is SUPER fun in my opinion. Slowly building up your train from a dinky little wagon to a fully fledged locomotive is mega-satisfying. The combat is also kinda fun, but I have some critiques that I'll give in a minute. - Second of all, the game is GORGEOUS!! Even though I keep my graphics setting lower because I'm a sucker for high FPS, I found myself stopping to stare in awe multiple times, which was also helped by the beautiful soundtrack. (Is that one track inspired by Polar Express? I couldn't name it for the life of me, but something about it reminded me of the music in that movie.) - Third of all, I love Rofleemo!!! When I first saw one of them, my first thought was "This is gonna get real obnoxious real fast, isn't it?" But they really didn't! I found myself enjoying their silly antics and company all throughout my trip, and they're a joy to have on my train and super fun to collect. - Fourth, I would just like to say that the fact that there aren't a billion different skin packs or whatever (as in skins for your tools, like the supporter pack) is really cool, and I'm glad that the devs have focused on developing the game instead of sucking money out of the player base before it's even out. That's really commendable. However, I have a few critiques of the game I'd like to share: - The AI art in the box art is just... Not cool. I was genuinely hesitant to buy the game because I was worried it was just going to be AI generated slop, and none of my friends want to buy the game either because they don't want to support "developers that use AI." I find it hard to wrap my head around that the developers opted to use AI art in the box art, and I hope that's changed before release. - Combat is mostly fun, but pretty janky on controller. It also felt quite unfair walking into some Depos and being met with about a billion soldiers in the later chapters, which is normally fine, but it feels really unfair when most of their bullets literally track me?? That completely ruins the whole concept of taking cover, whilst not really having any good counter. Perhaps this could be remedied by having some sort of gear or upgrade that stops the homing bullets from tracking you? Also, PLEASE add some sort of aim assist for controllers! Bottom line, I love this game, but I have small issues with it. Despite my complaints, I think that this game is really worth a try for anyone looking for a new adventure to play. This game is truly a marvel, and the developers should be proud.

I am convinced that the train is not moving at all. I feel like the world is a giant vertical torus that rotates around the train with the same exact depot and the same exact islands going in circles forever. The game is fun for awhile but there is a severe lack of exploration and new places to discover. The same repeating graphics over and over and then over again even.

I really got to stop reading peoples reviews of games.... This game is FUCKING AWESOME and I 100% recommend this game to any lover of open world survival craft games!!! Just binged 7 hours straight and enjoyed the hell out it! It is just so cool being on a damn train! I love the tech tree and getting to new levels of it. Building the train out has got to be my favorite part of this. I guess I can compare it to Raft but I think that this is faster paced with better weapons and way more crafting. I didn't expect all the little animals and them to have jobs aboard the train... nor for them to pick up instruments and start playing some absolute bangers!!! Cannot wait to get further in the story. I had zero bugs, co-op was flawless and the game was beautifully optimized. Great job devs!!!!!

This is a rather unique experience, and easily my favorite Early Access title i’ve been following from the start. But let’s start with the… Basics: First and foremost, this is a relatively complete EA game in terms of gameplay and polish, and it is pretty straightforward, yet it cannot fit everyone. Why so? Well, it is a very meditative experience, in which you should not expect thing to happen at a rapid-fire speed, because of… Gameplay: You ride a train through the Void, gather resources scattered around and from time to time run into random encounters - puzzle islands, enemy outposts, story elements and such. But the Void isn’t exactly endless, since you periodically drive into the Depot, which serves as a breakpoint of sorts. Here you can build train platforms, walls and other heavy constructions, safely reorganize things, and sometimes encounters story elements. Once you’re done at the Depot, simply release a break and continue your journey. Resources are either spent on crafting or building, which is done really well - intermediate resources usually don’t exceed the depth of 2 (and i hate crafting resource chains, feeding one resource into another 5 times in a row, sorry). Something that should also be mentioned, that one ride from Depot to Depot takes about an hour on the lowest speed (which you are free to control at all times), and this is where this “meditative experience” is coming from. Since there is a limit on the platform amount, you’ll be riding at lowest speeds until you’ve actually built your train. From there, you’ll be mostly interested in… Story: I’ll avoid any spoilers here, but - the story so far has been really interesting and intriguing, even funny sometimes. It is well written and narrated, definitely very unique, and takes itself realistically, allowing for some moments of humor, while keeping the bar of seriousness, mystery, and even extremely touching moments. You do receive it in small bits, and while it might be too scattered for my taste, the story itself holds me in this game very tightly. Of course, the final chapter is missing at this point, so i cannot tell you if it has a good conclusion or not, but so far it did not let me down in any way, and at some moments even exceeded expectations. Just like… Art and Graphics: It might be one of the prettiest game of this generation. Subjectively, the art-style looks perfect, objectively - the world is consistent, everything belongs here, and the overall work for VFX and art is unimaginable. And all of it comes with great optimization - my first-gen RTX GPU, along with first-gen i9 CPU, are mostly idling through the game. There are no such issues as stuttering or visual glitches. Rofleemos - little creatures you get as your train crew, deserve a separate praise for animations and the amount of little details they’ve got. But, they might come for a price of… Sound: Now, overall sound design is great - everything is balanced, music is good and fitting (actually, it is one of the best soundtracks i’ve heard in a while), sound effects are unique and nice for the hearing. However, and this is highly subjective (judging by the reviews) - your “crew”, Rofleemos and Lootcatchers (it is a different breed of creatures, which name is currently unknown) - have their sounds too, which can lead to some sensory overload, if you place the latter set of creatures in a batch too close to each other. And Rofleemos… Well… They can play musical instruments. One of them being Kazoo. You can imagine where this is going, right? I, personally, absolutely adore them and their passion for music, since it can create a lot of charming and hilarious moments. But to some folk it may be annoying, especially if you take everything too seriously. However, their sound can be controlled by a different volume slider, so there is a solution. And now, let’s jump to the… Conclusion: Overall, i fell that this experience is absolutely worth its price. Developers listened to the community and added a huge amount of QoL and requested features since the initial launch, which now makes it a properly polished and very well-made game, with no “it’s an Early Access” remarks. While i would love to see more content and features added before the release (like being able to save or store new Rofleemos, once you reach their limit on the train), i’m thinking of this game as a complete experience, minus the missing conclusion to the story. So if you’re in for something that allows you to chill, meditate and simply enjoy the ride at your own pace - this is a perfect game for you. And for the rating, i would easily get it 9 out 10, but hey, judge for yourself ;)
