Quite a great choice if you’ve always wanted to try RTS games but found most of them too overwhelming. The pace here is leagues slower than something like Starcraft. Since you only control a few squads with their abilities, it feels much more manageable - closer to Real Time Tactics than a pure RTS. The retreat mechanic is genuinely unique, haven’t really seen anything like it in other rts. The campaign also includes a system with loot accuisition reminiscent of Diablo, which adds a surprisingly enjoyable layer. Overall, there’s plenty of content for both singleplayer and multiplayer, with MP matches still managable to find. Would be great to see it get a definitive edition like the first game, but even now it’s fully playable and worth a try

If you looked at this one because of the re-release of the first one then read on because there are changes in this game from the first. For starters, this game focuses more on hero units than a giant army. In a skirmish, you will most likely have much smaller armies than that of the first one. However, this game took pages from the Men at War game to include better tactics rather than just throw everything you have at the enemy. Base building has been gutted, for better or worse. Now, you just have an HQ where you can deploy your units. You get power and requisitions from strategic points. So the game rewards you for a more aggressive play rather than defensive. No turtling if that's how you like to play. There are only 6 playable factions compared to the first game, but in fairness, some of the races played to similarly in my opinion so for better or for worse, there's that. If you decide to buy the game, you will get the base game, and the two expansions. However, they all have their own launchers, which Dawn of War re-release put it all in one. For $10, no questions asked take my money for the Emperor. The regular price is too much of an ask. I do not care if that is heresy, it is my opinion.

This Dawn of war is my Dawn of War. I know it didn't please the fans of the first one, but it was the game that introduced me to Warhammer as a whole and I loved playing it back wen it first came out. I recently started replaying it again, but I hit a hard block on progress after a few missions, and none of the solutions online have resolved it for me. I'm hoping the OG Dawn or War remaster will mean this one gets a remaster too. I'm voting up despite the version I have not working because I still love the game itself.

Even after the years I sit down and play this one hours on end. Too bad we never got a 3rd game, as that couldve been fantastic.

I play the singleplayer campaign at least once a year. Together with the mod Ultimate Exterminatus, which I highly recommend, the campaign becomes a great experience (on top of what it already was) with great replayability.
