Loving it. This game isn't easy or casual. Don't be afraid, don't be intimidated. If I can do it, you can do it. You will read manuals and or watch videos at some point. At first it can be overwhelming but that changes fast, if you can follow instructions or use a checklist. You can play Singleplayer with Bots, or Coop with others (as a Crew member or on other Uboats as a Wolfpack). Depending on your station, you will turn wheels, flip switches, blow fuses and putting them back in, calculate torpedo solution, calculate course/position (do basic math).... You have to plan and think ahead. Example: You don't simply run the Diesel Engine, like hold F to fix,... ohhh no. If the engine is not warm enough, and you just go full throttle, it will drown. Then you need to stop it, open all valves and blow out the water/diesel, close them and restart. There are real laws of physics in this game. Electro Motors and Batteries if not handled correctly will blow fuses..... If you want to play as Captain and only shoot Torpedo, let the bots do all the other work and focus on the Target Solution, which isnt really difficult. You just need to be accurate. Bots can be turned on or off for specific stations. So you can make it 1,2, 3,... player. The video about the Navigation Station hurt my brain and I decided to let the Bots do the navigation for now ;) (update: wasn't that difficult after all. But the Bot doing the navigation looks so happy. I think I can't take that job away from him.) After a steep learning curve and screaming at the blown fuse, because you forgot to put voltage on high again, it feels extremly rewarding. Once you figured out any station, you will be proud of yourself and call your wife down to your basement, to tell her that you finally can charge both batteries, while running both engines, while maintaining ordered speed. She will make you a hot coco or hand over some divorce papers. Either way you will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Very good, very in depth. You can have a very good time with this game today if it's the sort of thing you're looking for. With a fully crewed and competent Uboat, it could be insanely fun. It's like UBOAT but without any of the assists or crew management. You don't click "dive to 20m", you have to go fill your ballast tanks and trim them just so to achieve neutral buoyancy. You don't tell a crew member to scan for contacts, you actually get on the hydrophone and spin it around and listen. You don't tell a crew member to calculate a firing solution, you actually work out the firing solution yourself (unless you are playing co-op). And if you have multiple crewed boats online, you can communicate between your wolfpack with the radio and enigma machine. It's a lot for one person but I appreciate that this game exists.

Fun game. Complex enough to challenge you but enough guides that you can go in kinda blind and learn, which isn't always an easy task for simulator games. Community is very welcoming and friendly, and most importantly, helpful. I'm also not sure why no other review mentions this, while the live game hasn't been updated in a while, there are testing branches that do get updated regularly. Game is not abandoned at all.

This game is the most fun you can have in a wet German, tube with four screaming idiots. Let me tell you about Wolfpack. It's not just a submarine sim. It's a friendship destroyer, a social experiment, a chaotic ballet of diesel fumes and war crimes and the single most immersive experience you'll ever have with your pants on and morale at rock bottom. The premise is simple: you and a few unlucky friends cram yourselves into a World War II German U-boat to hunt Allied shipping, using real-world sonar, navigation, and torpedo mechanics that require actual literacy. No HUD, no handholding, and absolutely no respect for your time. If you want to know where you are, you better crack open the sextant and start doing trigonometry, Hans. But here's the beauty of Wolfpack....everyone in your crew is a moron and you're one of them. You’ll spend forty minutes silently stalking a convoy, only for the guy manning the dive controls to press the wrong valve and send you into a death spiral that would make a toilet jealous. You’ll surface at night, ready to strike, and as you go decks awash some dumb azz left the hatch open and you dipped sub seven meters. GG boys, its a long azz way to Tipperary. The captain is usually a drunk European with no map skills, the sonar operator is convinced every rock is a battleship, and the helmsman just confused “starboard” with “the other starboard.” And somehow, it all comes together in this miraculous, diesel-choked harmony of failure that’s more historically accurate than anything the Kriegsmarine ever did. Also... the Kriegsmarine. Good lord. If you’re here to LARP as some noble wolf of the Atlantic, forget it. This isn’t Das Boot. This is Das Dumb Azz. Your crew isn't the pride of the Fatherland—they're the reason Berlin lost the war. If actual U-boat crews operated like this, Dönitz would’ve executed them with a wrench. And the best part? There’s no UI, no objectives, and no tutorial. The devs basically said, “Here’s a rusty death coffin and some 1940s engineering manuals. Good luck, morons.” And it works. Because when you and your pals manually range a target, line up a shot, time the torpedo perfectly, and actually sink a Liberty ship? You feel like a god. A greasy, heavily-accented, probably-malnourished god. 10/10 Would have definitley been court-martialed in 1942

This game is very clearly not abandoned. It is made by a small team of enthusiasts connected to a small community. While physical updates may not have happened for a while, and the development time may take a very long time, that is all part and parcel of it. I'm yet to play a lot more of this, and look further into it. But the devs seem very consistent and trustworthy. And have been giving updates on progress on a weekly basis. Even if that didn't immediately result in a fully packaged game update. (Edit: Weekly updates have been stopped in response to community feedback about how repetitive they are (game development tends to be like this.) Instead, they've been doing monthly devlog updates through Steam For about 5 months, as far as I can tell.) Doing this accurately is extremely tricky. The historical accuracy alone takes a lot of work and research to say the least. I'm choosing to trust the devs and support this wonderful project. Even if it takes another 10 years to finish. To quote the developers: "It will be done, when it is done." I respect that. And I very much doubt that history and submarine enthusiasts will stop being enthusiasts just because it takes time to complete this project. As an aside, I would very much like every lever and knob to be accurately interactable. Hatches and such, too. So far, I have not yet managed to fire a torpedo. As I was too enamored with the historical accuracy. I'd also love an option to revert the language on gauges and so on to German. And a proper Kriegsmarine flag to attach, if that is not yet an option. This review may change or be edited slightly in future, as I made it in response to allegations of the game being abandoned, when I find that a disagreeable position to take. You can find devlogs all over the place. Incidentally, it also runs surprisingly smoothly. Which I was not expecting. There is, however, a severe lack of hanging sausages in the canteen. So far, I'd only recommend supporting this project, if you are actually interested in what it contains. If you are looking for a submarine game and nothing more, then this might not (yet?) be the thing for you. However, if you are struggling to find space in your bookcase(s) to fit even more of your recently acquired historical accounts on U-boats... Then I think this might interest you as much as it does me. In short. Read everything first. Check the devlog and discussions. And then decide for yourself. I, personally, choose to trust the devs and support this.
