April 2026
After 2K Sports decided to introduce a Ring/Scamside Pass for WWE 2K26, effectively replacing content that had been an integral part of the game for years with a grinding system, I had no choice but to buy its predecessor, 2K25, which I had originally planned to skip after not playing 2K24. (The last one I played was 2K23.) Let me preface this by saying that buying 2K25 after 2K23 was definitely worth it for me! As a classic wrestling fan of over two decades, I can say that WWE 2K25 is the best WWE 2K game in the entire series and plays better than any of its predecessors—mind you. Since the WWE 2K22 reboot, each WWE 2K game has built upon the previous one. The three WWE 2K games—WWE 2K23, WWE 2K24, and WWE 2K25—are the best of the modern era. With the new WWE 2K26, which introduced the Ringside Pass and is increasingly ruining the entire series with microtransactions, WWE 2K24 or WWE 2K25 are the only viable alternatives in 2026 for anyone wanting to play modern WWE games. The improvements over its predecessors are primarily the minor gameplay mechanics in the matches, such as the return of intergender matches since WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2009, and some gimmick matches that have been added (Ambulance and Casket, already in 2K24, and the Bloodline match in 2K25). Of course, the game also has many negative aspects, such as the numerous MyFaction Persona characters, which are marked with many "???????"s on all selection screens and are a constant annoyance, reminding the player that even though they bought the most expensive edition, they still don't have all the content. These methods are a recurring nuisance when clicking through the many wrestlers. Otherwise, the Showcase mode is a mixed bag. This story is narrated by wrestling promoter and legendary manager Paul Heyman, who has accompanied cover star "Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns in recent years. One of the best gimmicks of modern WWE, no doubt. Unfortunately, the Showcase mode featuring the family of Roman Reigns and The Rock was rather lackluster, and most of the matches were pure fantasy. I would have much preferred real matches from Roman Reigns' Bloodline between 2020 and 2024, rather than this fantasy scenario. Also, all the matches, except for the Tamina Money in the Bank ladder match, were incredibly easy to play. The ladder match, on the other hand, was a nightmare, requiring what felt like 20 restarts. Paul Heyman nicely explained the intros for each match and wrestler, using old video clips. Also, all the matches, except for the Tamina Money in the Bank ladder match, were incredibly easy to play. The centerpiece of this WWE 2K game, as in its predecessors since WWE 2K23 (especially since it was more like a demo in WWE 2K22), is the MyGM or General Manager mode. Here, you can choose one of seven brands (RAW, SmackDown!, NXT, NXT 2.0, WCW, ECW, or NXT Munity) and then select your preferred manager (including Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman). This mode has been enhanced with numerous new features and offers the most long-term enjoyment, thanks to the game's excellent Creation Suite. This mode allows you to choose one of seven brands (RAW, SmackDown!, NXT, NXT 2.0, WCW, ECW, or NXT Munity) and then select your preferred manager (including Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman). Many smaller new features have made this mode more in-depth, and it offers the most long-term enjoyment thanks to the game's excellent Creation Suite. ... Here's my pros and cons list: Pros: +Huge roster +Many wrestlers look very realistic +Very realistic entrances +Huge selection of matches +Creation Suite (arena, show, matches, custom wrestlers, alternative outfits, etc.) +MyGM (better than in 2K23-24, more match types) +MyGM draft music has been top-notch since 2K22 +Hollywood Hogan and the nWo (since 2K22) are always included +The sound editor allows you to integrate alternative wrestling themes or even other soundtracks on PC (including themes from SmackDown Here Comes The Pain, for example) +Many different referees in the game (including referee legend Charles Robinson) +Football can be thrown +Most legends look great +You can easily add many missing arenas (RAW Is WAR '98, SmackDown 2000, etc.) Download and integrate your own Ruthless Aggression Era (SmackDown and RAW) characters from the past via Community Creations +Lex Luger, D'Lo Brown, The Rock '01, Stone Cold 2000, and Roman Reigns have super realistic character models this year that really stand out +Hulk Hogan has many alternate outfits (WrestleMania 3, WrestleMania 6, WrestleMania 9, 2002 Hulk Still Rules and WCW/nWo Hollywood Hogan) +Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have alternate outfits (they've been around since 2K22, but still) +Rockhouse nWo Theme +Eric Bischoff as GM +As in previous games, you can add custom GMs in GM Mode, essentially bringing back Kurt Angle as a General Manager; he was last available as a GM in WWE 2K23 +No ringside pass nonsense like in 2K26 +It's not WWE 2K26 +Alundra Blayze is back +Intergender Matches +Exhibition Matches and gameplay are as smooth as they've been in years Not +AI is very good this year (less dumb) +Ruthless Aggression Era Kane +Rhea Ripley has a top-notch character model +Super extensive roster of modern wrestlers and legends +Legends can still be unlocked in-game via accelerators or VC, unlike in WWE 2K26 where they were unlocked behind a Ringside Scam Pass. +Highlight Heel/Photo Mode is great again this year. +Jey Uso (Entrance) Neutral +-User-created rendered photos are completely bugged this year (they're too small in the title settings, or shifted too far down in the Superstar settings; however, everything is fine in wrestler selection or MyGM mode). +-Hulk Hogan in the 1980s looks better than in 2K23, but still unrealistic; the beard is the only improvement. +-Commentary from Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, and Corey Craves is okay, but no comparison to the legendary Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler, or Michael Cole's earlier commentary with Tazz on SmackDown! (2001-2006) +-Becky Lynch has a significantly better character model than in WWE 2K23 (which was terrible) through 2K24, but her 2K22 character model is still unmatched... +-The MyRise story is quite funny in places, but too short. -Negative -Community Creations: No crossplay -Bret Hart still looks incredibly unrealistic; his hair is a disaster. -The servers are always shut down after two years, while WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2008 is still playable online on Xbox... -Universe mode is so sterile and boring; please bring in story designers from WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2010 to WWE 2K14 -No story designer -Some wrestlers don't have correct photos (Alundra Blayze '94, Triple H '14, Becky Lynch '17) -Hulk Hogan 2002 still has the wrong rendered photo -Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns from the Tribal Chief/Head of The Table Era (2020-2024) don't have a shared entrance (Roman Reigns '22). Only the OTC Roman Reigns, who's been in the game from the beginning (essentially the 2025 version), has the entrance that the previous version should have had... -Crowd sounds are still bad -Undertaker '91 is simply the modern Undertaker with a very poor reskin/cosplay of his younger self... Conclusion: WWE 2K25 will probably remain the last truly good WWE 2K game in the entire series, because the 2K games are now With the Ringside Pass being introduced as a paid free-to-play system, and all they want is your money, WWE 2K25 will be the last WWE game worth playing. You're not missing anything in 2K26 anyway, except for the ragdoll system, which gets boring after one or two plays. You might as well play Garry's Mod for that. The Roman Reigns/Bloodline Showcase is good, the roster is great, and if you like GM Mode, you'll definitely be able to enjoy this game for many years without needing a sequel. The game includes all the most important wrestlers if you're into the WCW/WWF/E era from 1996 to 2024. Personally, I see WWE 2K25 as a worthy conclusion to the WWE 2K series. 9/10

Playing this after WWE 2K22, I have to say — it’s still the best one in the series. I’ve enjoyed WWE 2K24 and WWE 2K25 very much, However there are still dispite it going in the right direction ,still many flaws and outdated gameplay: ✅ The Good: - Chain wrestling makes a return. - Massive roster. - New hairstyles in the Creation Suite (especially happy they brought back some older ones). - Graphics are really solid. - The AI is a lot smarter now — they actually complete taunts before going for moves, etc. - New game modes have been added and are a nice touch. ❌ The Bad: - The Island content is limited to "next-gen" consoles — PC is next-gen too! - Creation Suite limitations: I’m pleading with 2K — please overhaul this mode. It’s extremely outdated, especially with the face scans and morphs. We need: More customization options, More hairstyles, More clothing options for female wrestlers, Fixes for attire parts that glitch based on hairstyles, Ability to customize in-game characters (hair, makeup, face paint, lip gloss, eyelashes, eyes, body morphs, etc.), This is such a core part of the game, and it’s overwhelmingly disappointing that after four games, there’s still no major improvement. - Universe Mode: What have the developers done here? Respectfully — it’s a mess. I want to build rivalries, pick actions, and shape stories. Instead, it’s repetitive, copy-paste matches with no triple-threat rivalries. Royal Rumble rivalries feel flat. They have all the tools to make this the best mode in the game — even better than Showcase. I want to feel like I’m running the company: booking surprise returns, hearing commentary react to comebacks or injuries. Please bring back custom promos — make them interactive! It doesn’t need voice acting, just immersion. You can do it, 2K. I believe in you. - MyFaction: Terrible. Full stop. Locked behind paywalls for “persona cards” that take forever to earn. It’s boring and pointless. We all wanted Road to WrestleMania (RTWM) — instead, we got this. Get rid of it. If you want monetization, just do a £10 battle pass for cosmetics — not this grindfest. - Showcase: It’s okay. I’m a hardcore women’s wrestling fan (as you can tell from my Creation Suite rant), but that one random ladder match for MITB? Easily the worst Showcase match. Not terrible overall, but please — more women’s matches next time. - The Island (again): Oh wait… we can’t even play it on PC. If you’re advertising a “new mode,” there should be a price difference if we can’t access it. I’ve watched gameplay and reviews — doesn’t look like we missed much though. - MyRise: First year I didn’t finish it. I just don’t like intergender wrestling — not because of the gender dynamic, but because it doesn’t happen in WWE now. Instead of two separate stories, they merged them lazily. Here’s an idea, 2K: stop releasing yearly games and actually spend time making something inventive. - AI improvements to matches and gameplay: Managers are hopeless at supporting during matches. Please amend the rope-break animations so the referee can always see them, and stop the referee from colliding with a wrestler’s head during pin counts — the ref should get there in time to make the count. Make managers interfere more dynamically: have them interact with each other, perform shady actions at ringside, and play believable win/lose reactions (e.g., an animation of disbelief when their wrestler loses a pin). In the Royal Rumble, members of the same faction shouldn’t be constantly attacking each other — they’re stablemates, not random opponents. Add more betrayals in Universe Mode (or at least give the option for storyline betrayals). Make Money in the Bank cash-ins more meaningful and better utilized by the AI. For example, with the AI scaled to high, I played the same match 10 times and the MITB briefcase holder only managed a successful cash-in on the 9th attempt. Please think more carefully about AI behaviour and match intent, 2K — come on. 💡 Recommendations for the Next Game: - Creation Suite Overhaul: More hairstyles, makeup, clothes, attire pieces, customizable morphs, and body templates. Let us edit in-game superstars (hair, makeup, etc.). - Universe Mode: Needs a massive overhaul. - Create-a-Finisher: Please bring this back — it was so much fun! - Create-a-Story: Another immersive fan-favourite that should return. - RTWM: Bring it back — and get rid of MyFaction. - Separate Women’s and Men’s Showcases: Appease both fan bases. - Legends Contracts: Keep them active! If Kelly Kelly or Torrie Wilson aren’t in the next game, I’ll riot (kidding… mostly). Also bring back Jazz, Luna Vachon, Ivory, Retro Molly Holly, Retro Lita, Retro Trish, and AJ Lee.

TL:DR first: Love Wrestling? Love to sit on your couch and just have some laid back fun punching people in creative ways, alone or with friends? Then this is absolutely worth a buy. Try getting it at a reduced price, and you'll be very happy with what you get. (I got it at the 50% sale). Is it a great game? I don't know. It sure is FUN though. Because everything bad about it is optional. LONGER REVIEW: From the perspective of someone who played ALL the wrestling games up until and including PS3, and then hasn't played one since then: Most reviews really weren't helpful to me, because all of them seem to be written from the perspective of people that played all the WWE 2kXX games. I have no previous experience with them. So I find some things to be way better than often described, and some, well, just plain weird. GAME MODES: I don't get what that "MyFaction" stuff is. How it works, why it is fun, or why people play it. I tried "trying it", but I was just weirded out in many ways. Seems like a completely unnecessary cash grab inside a game. Like a game inside a game, to get the player to spend money in a gatcha-card-collector fashion. It's just weird IMO. And luckily completely optional. I looked at it once, and then never again, and I am missing 0 fun or good content because of it. Then there's the "normal matches", where you can play a wide variety of rulesets and scenarios with all your favourite wrestlers, and your own creations from the INSANELY vast character creator that gives you a TON of freedom to customize - maybe even a little TOO much, because I got completely lost in it. This is the mode where you just have some fun once in a while, or while having some friends over, drinking a beer and cooperatively folding people on the screen. There is also a "MyRise" mode, which is basically career mode with a story. It's fun, it's EXACTLY what I expected from a WWE Storymode in a WWE game, with all the cool action, the spectacle, the corny dialogues and themes, the intrigue, the goofy humor at times, and just a good show, with all the necessary gameplay elements. Such as upgrading your wrestler by doing Live Matches on the side, as a kind of "optional quest to improve your skills". This keeps the dopamine coming. Number goes up, Number good. It has replayability, because it has branching storylines. Do not expect a super deep novel-esque story though, this is wrestling. It's a corny story, full of pathos, loyalty, betrayal, abductions, thiefery, sorcery. What did you expect. I'm having a blast playing this mode. Pure and utter nostalgia after so many years of abscence. GAMEPLAY: As for the gameplay - damn did they manage to make the movesets accessible. It is an art in an of itself to map a controler input layout for so, so many different skills, and context based actions. And this, I'd say, is where the game shines. The controls are a 9/10. Maybe even a 10/10. I have NO idea how a wrestling game could be controlled BETTER. No complaints. I am just happy with it. And I write that as a handicapped person, who often finds, well, handicaps with normal controller inputs. Not this time. I heard that previous versions of this game had no intergender wrestling and no blood? Since my last wrestling game was on the PS3, and was basically "uncensored" in every way, I am happy that now that I decided to play WWE games again... I basically come back to what I know, and not a reduced experience as it seemingly was in the meantime. Kudos! What I do not like is the main menu - many options are rather hidden, or needlessly layered, or locked behind certain contexts. For example, there is no "Options" or "Graphic settings". There is a "Extras" button, that THEN leads to Graphic Settings etc. Who does that? That is just weird. Or how the game modes are displayed in the main menu. If you aren't already used to the WWE games, none of it seems intuitive. Like, how shall I know that "MyRise" is Storymode? How shall I know, that I can only import previously created custom characters to the MyRise mode if I have at least one savegame of MyRise already, so that I can SEE the list with the import button? (which is completely missing if you never played myrise before, despite the tutorial telling you that you SHOULD import at least 2 characters.) This has been rather infuriating in the first few hours of trying to play this game - because until I was actually able to play the story... oh boy did that cost time due to certain issues, and mistakes I made, not knowing the games quirks, or how character creation works. If you wanna play the story, do yourself a favor: Start the story, create two completely random characters IN the story, then go back to main menu. Then to "Superstar", which is the character creator (did I mention that the menu descriptions suck? Oh. Yeah I did.), and create your actual characters there. You need a male AND a female for storymode. Save em, go back to storymode, now you should see a list if saves - and on that list, on the lower end of your screen there's the hint how to import your characters. Why do it this way? Because - second issue aside from menus - The game occasionally crashes. It does not happen often. It is not a big problem. Usually. Never has crashed during a match, which is the most important part. It DOES crash more often during character creation though, and THAT is infuriating. There is a "quicksave" option in the character creator, which you should use very, very frequently during character creation, or you'll lose A LOT of time, because the editor is so immensely detailed. Which is cool. But also, well, doesn't allow for a quick start. Especially since you need 2 characters, not only 1. So, this game sucks at menu-UI design. But it is brilliant and extremely fun in actual gameplay. Luckily you'll only need to figure the menus out once. So it is a very temporary problem. I have NOT tried the online content yet. That island mode just looked giga cringe in many ways. I'll keep playing myself, and with some bros, having a good time. Character creator - 9/10 (would be a 10/10 if the menu layout was better and if it was crash-free) Menus 4/10 Ingame UI 8/10 Graphics 9/10 Sound 8/10 Controls 10/10 Fun 10/10 Solo-Content: 9/10 Coop Content: 9/10 Nostalgia: 10/10. Timetravel to better days, when you and the boys just sat in front of a playstation 2 and didn't have a care in the world. Online: Who knows. Solid 8/10 wrestling game. (Would be a 9/10, if it wasn't so eager in trying to get you to spend more money for completely unnecessary stuff. That luckily can be ignored because wll, it's unnecessary.)

It's more of the same from WWE 2k22, 2k23, 2k24. All the major problems of the previous game are still intact. I still rated this positively because for once, for the first time in almost 20 years, we have intergender wrestling again, and women can bleed in matches
