Re-release wasn't necessary, but ok, it was free for Kiwami 2 owners. GOG still has old Kiwami 2 and remastered bundle. Anyway, after Kiwami 1 and Zero i won't miss style change and clunky wooden combat system from the old engine. Now we have most of the moveset together but with fluid animations and fights where you feel all punches and kicks. And overall game looks more lively. I enjoyed 2 and 6 the most. Story is basically non-existent - you can finish the game in a few hours if you only do main strory. Short as Kiwami 1, but you can see that RGG tried to make something of it: 1. We now have things from Zero like cabaret and karaoke with cutscenes 2. No more soul crushing grind except bouncer missions, arena and skill points if you want to learn all skills. In that case you'll spend lot of time running to pharmacy to get Appstim RX then going to restaraunts to eat expensive stuff to buff 3. Substories are fun again and there're lots of them Side stuff is put really well and doesn't feel like RGG dumped everything they had just to keep player busy. It just doesn't feel off: lots of substories, they are still ridiculous and fun, clan creator is fun, good old cabaret is fun. Playing "Yakuza 3 Remastered" after Kiwami 2 is torture. Good thing we got Kiwami 3. Bad thing is that Kiwami 3 is not that great as remake.

I've started it with the Legacy one and finished it with the new (in my native language). I've done it all quests I could do TWICE because this game deserves it ! I love the combat-style, the story, the characters, everything is making this game a good classic, you can have it without any doubt ! I'm sorry mister mahjong, you'll stay in debts forever TWICE !!

This didn't need a whole new different game. So this free update basically adds more size to the game. For extra languages, unlike Kiwami 1 or Yakuza 0 there is no new features its the same game we got on PS4, and re released for xbox and PC. For the new players Kiwami 2 is a remake of Yakuza 2, but unlike Kiwami 1, I have some issues with Kiwami 2. I like the playstation 2 game more, because the music is better. The combat is much better, and I dislike early dragon engine games. Kiryu feels weak when he punches or do combos there isnt much POW, you dont hear his strength. Which is meh. Its still worth to play for the story, but Kiwami 2 feels inferior to Yakuza 2, I wish Kiwami 2 used the same engine that was used in Y0 and K1.

While the 0 and Kiwami 1 releases absolutely deserve negative reviews, this version of Kiwami 2 is completely free for existing owners and fixes the horrific aliasing this game is notorious for. Yes, mods for the original version no longer work and the file size shouldn't be this large but the original is still in your library so this release does not deserve the level of venom it's receiving.
